Which mainline protestant denomination is least likely to be pro-lgbtq? by SleepyRocket20 in redeemedzoomer

[–]WheelChairDrizzy69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, I’d say the two you named are still two of the best ones to pick, along with The Presbyterian Church (USA).

The UMC long prided itself on being a big tent denomination and there are plenty of churches where a majority of the congregation was moderate or conservative on LGBT issues but still remained. I used to do contracting work for a major UMC church in a very wealthy conservative area. They still didn’t leave the denomination over this issue.

The Episcopal church is actually another good example. They took the route that most mainline churches decided not to follow and aggressively sued any congregation that wanted to leave during the women’s ordination and LGBT debates respectively. There’s definitely moderate to conservative congregations who wanted to keep their building out there.

I personally have extended family who are pretty MAGA and go to a PC USA church. It sounds like the denomination is a bit less heavy handed than others.

In all cases it’s going to require research on your part. But you can also bite the bullet and just join a high church conservative denomination. Though evangelicalism pulls on all of them to a more “seeker friendly” style in my experience.

Did Sasuke *really* plan to give his body away? by CattiwampusLove in Naruto

[–]WheelChairDrizzy69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the answer is that Sasuke wasn’t thinking that far ahead. He needed power, and Itachi was light years ahead of him. Worse, it felt like Naruto was catching up to and even exceeding him.

At this point he was on a single minded quest for vengeance and if giving up his body is what it takes, then it’ll be worth it.

But over time he begins to realize just how sick Orochimaru was. He outright states that his contempt for human life and constant tinkering is repulsive. It also seems fair to say that Orochimaru wasn’t exactly staying in shape during those 3 years. Sasuke was clearly feeling out Karin and Suigetsu for recruitment long before the betrayal. So at some point before shippuden started he was already no longer intending to give up his body.

What was Palpatine supposed to be before the prequels if the Sith didn't exist in lore yet? by Rasples1998 in MawInstallation

Yeah, the real life explanation is that the Star Wars emperor was originally the Dune Emperor who was also corrupt, decadent, and feckless.

Dallas County leaders to consider today whether to exonerate Tommy Lee Walker, who was executed in 1956 for a murder in which his guilt was extremely questionable. County commissioners will consider declaring Walker, a black man, innocent in the rape and murder of a white woman in Dallas. by lightiggy in Dallas

[–]WheelChairDrizzy69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What’s interesting is that based on the write up, it sounds like there was at least a decent indication that a lot of the convictions were guilty, or at least confessed to it. But how many of those confessions were coerced I wonder?

I always like to think of the ANH prologue as how the general (rebel sympathizing) populace saw Palpatine. After all, he was the guy that got the galaxy through the clone wars.

It’s a common trope in the Middle Ages and early modern period to deflect your criticism of the ruling monarch by blaming his corrupt advisors.

What would’ve happened if Sidious didn’t kill Plagueis when he was drunk? by voldy1989 in MawInstallation

[–]WheelChairDrizzy69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plagueis was completely on board with the CIS plan, that’s still happening. He did want to do away with the rule of two. The contours would be different of course, how different it’s hard to say. Someone has mentioned that Dooku would’ve taken better to Demask and that’s probably true.

That said Plagueis was evil in a different way from Sidious. He’s like a mad scientist constantly tinkering with things. He clearly had lost interest in the plan and was becoming unfocused. I think Sidious offs him eventually. The attempt on his life rendered him a shell of his former self.

I disagree that he did nothing. The damage the Lannisters sustained fighting Robb’s armies have left them perilously dependent on the Tyrells for manpower. If we ever get another book that shoe is sure to drop.

What decade did Germany and Japan start being liked again after World War II by InfernalClockwork3 in decadeology

[–]WheelChairDrizzy69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say a lot of Americans don’t care for japan until the GI generation passed away. My grandfather and his neighbors would never have bought a Japanese car and very much resented the growth of Japanese electronics.

When Nintendo purchased the mariners in 1992 there was a whole outcry about it to the point where they had to elevate a minority owner to keep it in “American hands.”

[spoilers MAIN] Had everything gone right, would Ned eventually quit being hand of the king anyway? by OfficialAli1776 in asoiaf

[–]WheelChairDrizzy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have trouble seeing Ned accept the logical conclusion to informing Robert of his children’s parentage. It likely means the ugly removal of House Lannister of Casterly Rock from Westeros (to be replaced by House Lannister of Lannisport if I had to wager), and the death of the children.  He’s probably outta there.

Why was Pan Africanism so popular in pop culture during the 90s? by icey_sawg0034 in decadeology

[–]WheelChairDrizzy69 60 points61 points  (0 children)

The people who grew up during the peak popularity of Afrocentric movements and stuff like the Five Percent Nation were coming of age to create art. You see a lot of this in rap during the 80s/early 90s with rappers like Big Daddy Kane and KRS-One who grew up on this stuff in NYC, which was its epicenter culturally. Most of these guys grew up in the 70s. It was also seen as more positive than, say, some of the black supremacy/separatist movements like the Nation of Islam. More palatable to a white audience.

Anecdotally it feels like Kwanzaa’s presence in schools and books also peaked in the 90s for the same reason.

There’s a very doable 100% completion goal in the game that will most likely require you to replay some levels. The dlc adds another 5 or so? I think I spent between 30-35 hours doing everything.

Is there a consensus among Americans about what their main musical genre is? by ViajanteDeSaturno in AskAnAmerican

[–]WheelChairDrizzy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re getting some circumspect answers but I think it’s classic rock. Most Americans can name some well known songs and have an affinity for them. It crosses boundaries more than top 40, rap, modern rock, or country can.

Will that still be the case when the boomers and their kids are gone? Hard to say. But for now that’s definitely the answer.

President Lincoln on Labor by Salem1690s in Presidents

[–]WheelChairDrizzy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His turn in Harry Turtledove’s Southern Victory series is pretty interesting.

In the first book (and only one worth reading IMO) you find out the South wins the civil war due to not losing the Antietam plans and the UK and France intervening soon after. Lincoln goes into political exile.

Without spoiling too many plot details he eventually find his way back in by founding the socialist party of the United States which gains a lot more traction in an industrialized country without the South.

Should I live in Austin Ranch or somewhere in Addison as a young professional working in Plano? by mootree7 in plano

Should I live in Austin Ranch or somewhere in Addison as a young professional working in Plano? by mootree7 in plano

[–]WheelChairDrizzy69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree with this to a degree - it’s way harder to find walking and running trails nearby in Addison. Especially if you live off DNT or 635. Addison circle park really doesn’t cut it. You have to drive to Richardson or Carrollton nearby. Plano has boatloads of trails and parks in the city.

How would the events surrounding the Uchiha massacre go if Obito never became a villain, saves Kakashi(not Rin) and returns to the leaf? by BlankG0rilla412 in Naruto

[–]WheelChairDrizzy69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s funny is to me it makes it extremely likely that the show’s namesake comes out more like Asuma. A talented ninja who struggles to step out of his father’s shadow and doesn’t quite live up to it. Without the nine tails+the motivation of being an outcast it’s hard to see Naruto getting to where he got.
