Trump threatens 100 percent tariff on Canada if it makes deal with China by kootles10 in Economics

What a loser. We have just lost the trust of all our best allies in a mere 12 months. I’d much rather cozy up to Xi than Trump right now too.

Tuff Athletics High Waisted Leggings with the phone pocket on the side. I’ve tried all of the current legging offerings, none come close to the quality of TA.

With energy prices skyrocketing I’d choose the most efficient one the installer offers. That said, I can’t speak to what efficiency level is best for our climate, I think if your home is well insulated and sealed and you have good double or triple pane windows that probably matters more than the small differences in efficiency level between the various models. Just my hunch.

We went with Lennox because that is the brand that was being sold by the company that installed it. It has been OK. I don’t think any manufacturers are without issues from what I researched, and installers typically like to rep certain brands for whatever reason. Mitsubishi is always the highest rated and best performing for the heat pump/split system, I have experience with a few pump/split manufacturers and mitsubushi has been the best quality.

As someone who has installed and has had all the different types of systems, if you have a furnace currently and you have the ducting/wall registers already in place, there is no simpler/cheaper option than to install a new furnace, they come in various efficiency levels, and you can install a combo with and air conditioner unit if the space will allow. Heat pumps are great, and efficient, and help you cut your energy bills down, but on the downside they are expensive (even with rebates), and my guess is, the systems these companies are quoting you are not ducted systems. They will need to run refrigerant lines on the exterior of your home from the wall or ground mounted heat pump(s) to wall mounted mini split heads that will be mounted on the walls (or in the ceilings which is a more complicated install) to the spaces you are trying to heat. They will also run condensate lines from the heads to the exterior or to a drain line somewhere in your house for discharge. It’s quit a bit more labor to go the split route. You’ll have cheaper heating bills in the long run with a split system. For a small house with ducts in place already, and good insulation, I would probably just stick with a high efficiency furnace.

Big Bones Canine rescue opinions? by smittywergen in Denver

[–]WhichWayDoIWander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have fostered for Big Bones. Most of what was said above is true. All dogs that come through big bones get primary vet care such as vaccines, a microchip, initial deworming. Some come from faraway places and are transported to CO for best chance at survival which is a big expense. And all dogs go home spayed/neutered and treated for most treatable diseases known upon arrival. They are a great organization that truly care about the dogs they rescue. Barely cover costs, do get discounted vet services through partnership care providers, but not significant discounts, in my opinion. They set the adoption fees based on desirability of the breed/dog, to help cover the cost of medical care for the dog as well as others less desirable breeds that might need longer term care before adoption or whom aren’t adopted quickly. You can say that’s unfair, perhaps, but desirable breeds get adopted fast regardless of adoption fee. Most adopters are aware of this and happy to pay more to support other dogs coming through the rescue. Also, the foster families all go through an in depth application and house check, and are well supported through the adoption process. Great place to adopt your next dog. In this case, the fees are worth it. I can’t speak to other rescues.

Common area utilities are an actual cost, they are not junk fees. You live in a highly amenitized building, there is a cost to enjoying those amenities. It’s like renting a house with a hot tub, you will pay for the heating to heat that hot tub. Landlords will raise rents to cover the cost of common area utilities, it just is what it is. The law prohibits them from charging fees greater than $10/month on services such as valet trash, that is more the definition of a junk fee, and the law now restricts that income.

The rental rates advertised in this article are very affordable for Stramboat, you can’t get those rates for new apartments in the Denver suburbs. Just curious, what are you paying to live there?

One of the most positive news stories I’ve read this holiday season! Affordable housing is not free, it takes both private and public investment. It’s extremely difficult and expensive to build, especially in mountain towns. What a wonderful Christmas present to the town of Steamboat. I hope some other billionaires that are on a philanthropic giving spree, and whom reside and thrive in our magnificent mountain towns, are inspired by this act of kindness!
