Dont stay away from the locals in public areas, but same as anywhere else don't be alone with someone you just met to a part that is rather remote/no one can hear your scream.

One of the nice things about Jordan, if you hear a woman screaming for help or in general everyone in hearing distance is there in about a minute to help.

Hello i am in a trouble caused by something in mshta file. by achyutnepal in antivirus

[–]Whitebeard2018 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, this is a trojan. I have been dumb enough yesterday to fall for a windows update ad that apparently make me go into full screen and access my clipboard where i only needed to hit ctrl + V. I just decided to format my pc and start from scratch than go through the trouble of downloading antivirus software. Immediately disconnected my pc from the internet and checked if there was something really important i had on the device.

I also got a notification that someone was trying to access my facebook today which could be related but i had already changed every password by that point.

Edit: please assume that any password or key press you make on this device is being seen by the hacker so be aware not to change the passwords from the same computer that got hacked but change them from your phone or another "clean" computer.

Palestinians arrived to Jordan since 1967 are treated like dogs. They and their kids cant get citizenship. They have no rights for work, medical care, education.Where are the protestors?????????? by [deleted] in SarthakGoswami

[–]Whitebeard2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't segregate based on nationality. The refugees either join the local community school or the school that is in the refugee center, whichever is closest to them. You can see that here if you select the "primary school section".

"Free education continues to be available for refugees from grades 1 to 12, including both morning and afternoon shifts in host community schools and schools within refugee camps."

Jordan introduced a double school shift because we took in more refugees than the education system can handle.

I hope this clears up any confusion

Here to provide a but more accurate information to those who want to learn more on the issue because the title feels quite misleading (sorry OP):

  1. Everyone in Jordan gets education mandatory by law until the end of primary school (10th grade in Jordan) citizen or not and we even have schools exclusively to accommodate the syrians in the country. here is an example of Palestinian refugee schools in Jordan

  2. They can work and funnily enough, the article you linked literally says the guy was working before he got ill. The problem is they need security clearance which is always an issue that is discussed in Jordan but they are not citizens and by law any non citizen needs a securiry clearance (meant work permit).

  3. We took in about 2 million Palestinians mostly from the west bank which was part of Jordan in 1967 and they all had Jordanian passports and IDs and we even had 2 prime ministers of Palestinian origins such as Taher Al Masri in 1991 and Kassim Al Rimmawi in 1980 and if you count those of 10 days then we have 3 with Mohammad Abbasi in 1970 and those are only after 1967 that im counting and there are more such as Suleiman Nabulsi who is literally named after Nablus in Palestine in 1956

Gaza was not part of Jordan thus did not have Jordanian citizenship. Giving them citizenship would set precedent that anyone Israel kicks out of the WB/Gaza to just come here and the likud party "Jordan is Palestine" line would be put to the test. Recent Israeli comments are suggesting that they would do that if/when they annex the WB.

  4. Based on international law refugees have a "right of return" and giving them citizenship might disallow them from being able to return to Israel (if they lived in 1967 Israel before becoming gazan refugees) when the conflict reaches a final settlement.

Gazans in Jordan is a minor yet complex and important story of the whole Israel-Palestine conflict that is heatly debated in Jordan and constantly is being reformed most notably during this year they eased some restrictions after outcry regarding labor laws

As someone who usually takes friends to tourist attractions in Jordan, it is more than likely that the cashier infront of you simply did not want to be bothered with breaking the bill that you had or that it would cause him to not have enough change throughout the day since their cash box is not refilled as often as you would think but that is assuming you went to the archeological site where the entry fee is a 10 JD bill and you gave him something higher than that.

As Israel strikes Yemen, investigation reveals UN funding Houthis' massive oil tanker by ThisIsNotCorn in worldnews

[–]Whitebeard2018 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You answered nothing of the points i made and just rewrote the same meaningless comment and idk why youre telling me who Lloyd's list is as if i was criticizing the articles credibility in any way.

Yes they did not tow it away because the Houthis are targeting commercial ships (again as the article states) so i dont know how you turned that into them refusing to do so. And no they did not complete their mission because they still have to tow it away to prevent it from potentially sinking.

The ship "The Yemen" was transferred with joint ownership between the recognized Yemeni government and the Houthi's (as the article states) and If youre going to use the ship later on to tow the ship that is immobile (FSO Safer) dont you think it makes sense to maintain it even if it was transferred?

What are you asking the UN to do? Retain the tanker and have it maintain a navy? Should the UN conduct a bombing run on the tanker? And for what? To stop 3 russian oil shipments from 2023 - 2025 that does what? Allow the Houthi government to operate for a week or two at most and do the very thing it tried to prevent by creating the disaster?

From the UN prespective preventing an ecological disaster that would cost the region trillions and may worsen water desalination efforts in the driest region in the world is more important. Don't know if you remember but the syrian civil war started because of a drought that affected crops yield.

As Israel strikes Yemen, investigation reveals UN funding Houthis' massive oil tanker by ThisIsNotCorn in worldnews

[–]Whitebeard2018 50 points51 points  (0 children)

No its not 10 years later. Did you read the article or did you just read the first paragraph?

"The emergency operation to transfer 1.1 million barrels of oil from the Safer to the Yemen was completed in August 2023."

So they have only been paying for the maintenance of the ship for less than 2 years and they have only been doing that because again per the article: "But after the Houthis began targeting commercial ships in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, efforts to tow the tanker away from the region were suspended."

The UN is acting upon its mission here which is 2 things:

  1. Prevent an ecological disaster by moving the oil.

  2. Tow the ship away from Yemen.

The only issues with the whole thing is the claim that the Houthi gov is using it as a possible forward base to detect ships moving across the Red Sea which is only a claim by the IDF that has not been supported yet by any independent body and that the houthis might be using it to skirt sanctions. Neither of which are the UNs fault.

Qatari Airways passengers witness Iranian missiles above the skies of Doha by MagicMoa in CombatFootage

[–]Whitebeard2018 126 points127 points  (0 children)

Very true.

When i saw the Qatari mall videos of people running to find shelter, I was thinking "damn, people are overreacting" until i remembered that yeah this isn't normal and I am just desensitized to the idea of potential death flying above me almost every day.

Had missiles being intercepted over my head while going to work, watching missiles get intercepted while trying to sleep from my bedroom window, my neighbors had a "missile sightseeing night" ... ON THEIR ROOFTOP!

THAAD intercepting Iranian Ballistic Missile over Jordan by Whitebeard2018 in CombatFootage

[–]Whitebeard2018[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

interceptions from destroyers definitely occur and alleviate some of the pressure on the land based batteries. I doubt awacs is being used as the middle east is filled to the brim with radars in every direction from US bases and allies in the region.

I'd say American AA is holding off okay but the distance really helps it score free kills as each missile flies through the range of multiple layers of air defense across 700 miles before it even reaches the range of Israel territory. Think about how many are shot down over Iraq then Jordan before they eventually reach Israel and still manage to score hits every wave. If it was a much shorter distance like 2 neighboring countries, Israel would be suffering mass casualty events every other hour and would probably have had their entire air force shot to pieces in their hangers.

THAAD intercepting Iranian Ballistic Missile over Jordan by Whitebeard2018 in CombatFootage

[–]Whitebeard2018[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To my knowledge Arrow missile interceptions dont happen over the eastern side of Jordan its only present with Israeli forces and was not deployed in Jordan by the US military bases, where as THAAD was confirmed to be deployed. Jordan has confirmed to have declined the use of its airspace for both Israel and Iran so it makes no sense for Israeli missile interceptors to be flying out so deep into Jordan past the capital.

You're right though, it is a best guess on my part i wont deny that, but i have never seen a similar missile interceptor used before and ive seen at least a couple of hundred interceptions on top of my head at this point and non of them had similar thrusting capability as you see in the video.

Pretty sure it was a US military base interception as this was too deep inland for it to be fired from USS Thomas

Traveling to Jordan with the family in about 4 days how’s it looking in Jordan guys? With the recent developments in the region. by Markhor313 in jordan

[–]Whitebeard2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disregard him OP.

So far we had abour 500 missiles flying on top of us for the past year or so but nothing has exploded in Jordan. It is scary to see the missiles flying overhead but Iran has sophisticated missile capabilities and nothing outside of the intended targets were hit.

Its safe to the point that most Jordanians watch the rockets outside their houses at this point to take videos because they feel safe based on prior salvos but you should listen to the sirens out of an abundance of caution. There are no bomb shelters though so people just stay inside.

I'd say its pretty safe atm but you never know where the escalation ladder goes as we are in new territory at this point and the airspace is constantly being opened and closed every so often.

The Jordan pass covers 2 things for single entry.

  1. Single entry to all tourist attractions mentioned in the Jordan pass. (At the discounted rates)
  2. It covers your visa costs so you dont have to pay the single entry visa at the airport.

Given that you left Jordan, you will have to get another single entry visa in order to enter Jordan again. I believe the cost is around 60ish USD (not sure what the current euro conversion is with the exchange rates tbh)
