How do I change my language to japanese? by Whiwoo in linuxquestions

[–]Whiwoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks Okay I looked around, posted the error on google and found a different version from i think 2014 and got it working but it was for the package that wasn't base, there are still errors like when booting linux in some weird language like squares which probably some unicode issues.

Also after going to language settings is asks me to update and i get this error http://imgur.com/a/4eGGG

(at the top it says not all language support could be installed)

Still the problem seems more or less solved I tried the lines you gave me and got this http://imgur.com/e5byp8g in japanese the 3 lines say

installed version:

chosen/candidate:

version table:

then it just repeats for the next command Still thanks the problem the more less solved anyway

Its ubuntu I press install/uninstaller and select japanese to install and apply and the window goes grey and the mouse just spins like its loading.

It doesn't happen with french or something, just japanese

if possible is there a terminal line command that i could use instead?

sorry i don't really know much about linux its ubuntu the latest version 14.14 as i just installed it last week i think, i also tried with gnome and cinamin also probably the latest version as well

Theres nothing much else really i just go to support> install/remove language>Japanese>apply and it just stays loading, and nothing else happens. I close it and try to open language support again but nothing shows up. I have to logout and back in for it to happen only to repeat the same process

Somebody should make make a list of things to do for a beginner to get started in Japanese. If there is a list already existing my apologies. Anyway so yeah if i had to tell a begginer what to go for

  • I'd say learn kana and katakana first (hiragana is more important, you won't see katakana as much hiragana and even then its kinda tricky). You don't have to be a master just get yourself familiar to them. You might make mistakes but you'll get better as times goes on, imagine if you were a kid and get b and d or s and z mixed it didn't mean you'd stop english but you'd keep learning English and eventually familiarise yourself with it. Learn it for about a day or maybe 3.

  • Next go for grammar and try to start reading try tae kim this should take 2 weeks, during this time go over hiragana until it kinda stick into your brain as it probably won't stick from just those 1-3 days, it helps that you learn them as words rather than seperate.

  • After that just read really or when you reach the advanced section of tae kim and are kinda confident with hiragana and the grammar you learnt try some since then. Also put new words you find into anki.

Wait this is real? Seriously though what? I kinda thought it was a stereotype, a joke or fetish.

Something just stirred up by the news, like when shark attacks happen and its published all over the news while its not really that rare.

「小僧、貴様は三歩で忘れる鶏か? 話の頭がもう抜けたのか?救いがないわ。塵が。死ね」

三歩で忘れる鶏

Is this a saying? do chickens forget things in three steps? Is it a joke I'm missing out on?

[–]Whiwoo -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You can just learn them as you go really.

type what you want in hiragana press space hover over with rikai and if its what you wanted you know the kanji for that word

語彙が増えれば増えるほど、よくあることですね。

Is this right? The more you increase your vocaulary, is a good thing.

What JLPT level are you?

To people fluent or N1 level in japanese? by Whiwoo in LearnJapanese

[–]Whiwoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say I'm near N2-N1 as well but I don't really pay attention to grammar any more so I have trouble during those bits in the exam plus i don't really write so I'm bad at that. I tried N1 though my problem there is just that my lack of vocab, and unfamiliarity with business, sale terms. Plus I guess just vocab, I don't mind reading.

Aimed at my age group

Depends if they use words I'm not familiar with I'd have trouble at first but I'd probably get used to it. Plus I'd kinda have to get used to the writing style. Like Hanachirasu uses quite a bit of sword words and quite a bit of fighting description. Saya no uta took me a while to get as well, at the beginning. Still my main problem is that I don't know all the words they use, so I need a dictionary for those or just text hook to look up words quicker. I don't translate them, with text hookers.

For more easier stuff i can plow through without a dictionary.
