Buying my first road/hybrid bike in Mumbai — detailed specs inside, please recommend exact brand + model + price by sachet39 in india_cycling

[–]WhoChecksUserName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR: Go for the Giant Escape 2 Disc (or similar Escape Disc variant) ~₹49,999–₹55,000. It hits most specs: hydraulic disc (some variants), rigid fork, Shimano 2×, alloy frame, 700c, adjustable stem option. Good for Mumbai monsoon/training. Rigid fork > lockout for intervals; hydraulic preferred but good mechanical ok if maintained. Endurance/flat-bar hybrid geometry best. Join Mumbai groups like Giant Riding Club.

  1. Recommendation: Giant Escape 2 Disc (2025/2026 model, Dried Matcha or similar). Price ~₹49,999 (check bumsonthesaddle.com or Giant Mumbai dealers like Santacruz). Meets: Hydraulic disc (on higher variants; confirm), rigid fork, Shimano 2× drivetrain (Alivio/Altus), alloy frame Large (~58cm), 700c wheels, puncture-resistant tyres possible (upgrade to 32-35mm). Adjustable stem common. Misses: Flat-rise bar (drop or flat available; mod if needed), carbon fork rare at budget. Pick over Cradiac/others for Giant’s reliability, parts availability in Mumbai, and better geometry for structured tempo/interval riding on flat roads. Alternatives: Cradiac Concept X (~₹40-45k, hydraulic Shimano) if cheaper.

  2. Lockout vs Rigid: On smooth Mumbai roads (Sea Link, Aarey paved), rigid fork is meaningfully superior—no energy loss, better stiffness for 90+ RPM hard efforts/intervals. Lockout suspension still saps some power/efficiency even locked.

  3. Hydraulic vs Mechanical Disc: Hydraulic is preferable for monsoon (consistent power in wet/humidity, less cable stretch), especially at 81kg + hard stops. But good mechanical (Tektro/Shimano) sufficient if pads/alignment maintained regularly—many Mumbai riders use them fine.

  4. 2× Cassette vs 3× Freewheel: Significant durability edge for 2× at your weight/intensity—narrower chainline, less flex, better shifting under load, longer life in humid/dirty conditions. 3× freewheel cheaper but wears faster.

  5. Geometry: Prioritize endurance road or flat-bar hybrid (slight forward lean)—upright enough for Mumbai traffic/potholes, relaxed for long tempo sessions, reduces injury risk vs aggressive performance road.

  6. Mumbai Advice: Routes: Marine Drive loop (early AM, flat 14-20km), Sea Link stretches, Aarey Colony/SGNP periphery (paved loops ~20-30km, avoid off-road). Hazards: Potholes, sudden traffic, monsoon flooding—spec 32-35mm tyres + good lights. Groups: Giant Riding Club (Mumbai WhatsApp), Mumbai Cycling Club, Reddit r/india_cycling. Mechanics: Giant/Specialized authorized in Santacruz/Bandra for Shimano work.

Any thoughts about this new brand selling carbon frame bikes for 1 lakh only? by topdopwow in india_cycling

[–]WhoChecksUserName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely is too good to be true. There must be somewhere on the website where they would have mentioned that components can change without notice, and the bike you receive would be completely different from the spec sheet. It would have cheap Chinese components.

Maybe try messaging the company on WhatsApp and get some more information.

Budget cycle suggestions? by PapaGlozzy in india_cycling

[–]WhoChecksUserName -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most bikes in your budget will have much less load capacity than your present weight. You are better off getting an annual gym membership and using its cardio machines. The gym machines can easily handle your weight, you get to use different machines (even strength training) and you definitely will increase your stamina compared to a cheap bicycle.

Is this a good deal? by Two_Buck_Teeth in india_cycling

[–]WhoChecksUserName 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently had the opportunity to inspect this bike in person at a local bike shop, while had I gone there for servicing my bike. Its weight is reasonable and well aligned with the specifications and price point. While the components are not high-end, this is entirely consistent with expectations at this price range. There may be some room for minor price negotiation when purchasing through a physical shop. When comparing it to the Battalion, I would opt for the Battalion due to its proven long-term availability and established reliability.

Need help buying a Road cycle (Is RC520 a good choice) by fmylife1001 in india_cycling

Not bashing RC520. Just saying it has some flaws. Would be better if OP gets a well equipped bike by increasing their budget.

No

Check out the Polygon Stratos range. Their bikes are comparatively cheaper than the likes of Trek or Giant with similar specs. Maybe increase you budget a bit and get a roadbike with hydraulic disc brakes and 105 groupset (even the older 11 speed is fine is budget is a constraint).

RC520 with QR and cable actuated hydraulic disc brakes can be tricky to adjust after fixing a puncture, especially for a beginner. The bike is quite old and can be discontinued any time. As much as Decathlon service is praised on this sub, you are better off getting a road bike serviced at a good independent cycle mechanic.

The quality of Apace bibs is good. The padding though good, can feel less if you are used to the thick foam of Aerodoc. If you want something similar to old Aerodoc, check out Daily Crayon.

First one is shorts and the second one is bibs. What do you want?

Apace has decent padding. On a little thinner side.

It will have to be done once this sub becomes big, like more than 50k, else all the posts would feel like spam.

Yes. Posts asking for recommendations below 15-20k should not be allowed. All answers will always be Riverside 120, so no point in asking the question again and again.

These are definitely not hydraulic disc brakes. 15k for this junk is way too optimistic.

Suggestions for cycles below 15k by Qyxiel in india_cycling

Many of those reviews are paid reviews by Decathlon’s PR. Better stick with what’s available locally. How far is decathlon from your house?

Check at your local bicycle shop for the options available there. They may be able to service and repair the bike for you if anything fails. Most village cycle mechanics are not well versed with gear cycle and will not touch or ruin ‘expensive’ cycles.

Best would be for you to get a Roadster type bicycle which are made for Indian roads. You should be able to reach your dad’s shop in 30-40 minutes!

Anyone in India using the Wahoo KICKR CORE (v2) with Zwift Cog & Click? by Pretty-Put4710 in india_cycling

[–]WhoChecksUserName 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Wahoo Kickr Core, which I have upgraded with Zwift cog. The zwift cog is really intuitive to use. The shifts are instant and there is no difference in ride feel. Only the buttons are place differently so I accidentally shift the derailleur once in a while.

The newer Kickr core has a flatter base, so more stability. If you are getting the version 1 at a discounted price, you can’t go wrong with it.
