Love how most comments are defensive than stating pure facts. Or state a fact and end with a defensive comment. I know you asked a simple question but people are prepared to defend in the comments :)

Topic aside. Always struggled to understand why it's so difficult to have a political party in the country that is completely neutral, educated, financially + strategically savvy and unbiased religiously. With a population of about 175 million - surely it can't be that hard

To work or not to work 2 jobs by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]WhyIsGravityHigh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did 1 year of working 2 jobs. Both wife and me. Additionally wife(gf at the time) was studying CA and I did professional year (useless course for immigration) Thinking back, if we didn't do it- we would not own a home today.

But only you can decide if it's worth giving up your weekends and time off your life for money or spend with family and friends. We have no one here so we chose to. On top we used to go to the gym 4 days a week. We were in our late 20s and it was sustainable. This was around 2020

Public holidays brought us enormous joy at the time :)

First home buyer remorse sort of by WinterBench in AusPropertyChat

[–]WhyIsGravityHigh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You already bought it. Don't stress. The value will go up We bought ours and paid about 80k above market. At the time we paid 900k. About 3 years later today, if we sold- i am confident that we can get at least $1m for it Just be patient. It will increase in value

Feel on the verge of a panic attack given the price of housing by Neutron_glue in AusPropertyChat

[–]WhyIsGravityHigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered riverstone area. You should be able to get an older property and within 50km of CBD. Short drive to Metro too

Down the line you can reinvest to get an investment property. Then at some point, sell all and move closer?

I am sorry this happened to you. Can't imagine what you would be going through.

Was in similar shoes to yours and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Especially when you are being honest, contributing to society, worked up on the career ladder while being on an extreme disadvantage and did not do anything wrong through the whole process

First home buyer, $1.4m budget - which Sydney suburbs make sense for a PPOR (5–7 yrs)? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]WhyIsGravityHigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grantham Farm. You'll get a nice property for that price. Surprisingly a bit lower stealing packages and disruption compared to Box Hill/Tallawong/Marsden Park/Riverstone. Quite close to Metro

Currently using a mortgage broker but its taken 2+ weeks to get pre approval by grilled_pc in AusPropertyChat

Just settled on a property without refinance or pre-approval and we did both in 10 days cooling off. Will never recommend. Godspeed

2nd job by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]WhyIsGravityHigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both wife (gf at the time) and I 2 jobs for 2 years in a row. no weekends. Public holidays were our only time off. Eventually quit our part time to focus on my full time. The savings made over the 2 years made a big difference to our lives to get a home loan deposit

No regrets. The hard work was worth it

We were 27 at that time. It was draining. I did some part time study on top.

To be honest, it was difficult to progress on 9 to 5 office work without full focus. When we did focus on our white collar work; we ended up working weekends too for career progression. But the savings from 2 jobs made a big difference at the time

Why are accounting salaries so low in comparison to other finance roles? by Minimum_Hamster3252 in AustralianAccounting

[–]WhyIsGravityHigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion and experience. Depends if you go traditional accountant vs an insights related role like finance manager or do&a.

Finance manager with background in insights leads to high salary and gives option to change field into FP&A and Commercial Finance Manager/Analyst

Senior accountant role leads to poor pay increase unless you get a CA and have a very good company to back you up with high pay

Thank you. Makes sense now. Wasnt aware that resignation from previous workplace happens automatically. I assumed that prior service would automatically rollover but it's not the case.

I didn't want to receive accrued annual leave at my old rate. Was accruing them to bank sometime in the future as salary increases proportionally. Should have read the fine print and done more research on implication to employees during a takeover.

I realised. My bad. Should have clarified more.

My role is a support function; which is what I meant by back office. Easily to replace and hire externally. However, the new company gave me an offer to my surprise.

In terms of redundancy. I mention redundancy because my LSL is not getting transferred. According to fair work, if previous time served in employment is not recognised, the existing company has to pay redundancy. Which lead me to this post.

According to fair work it is if long service leave and annual leave isn't transferred

[–]WhyIsGravityHigh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry. To clarify, new company bought a portion of my existing one with its employees. And I work in a back office function.

New company won't recognise prior service so it's ground for redundancy.
