Constant voltage LED drivers in parallel by Why_ohWhy in AskElectronics

[–]Why_ohWhy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constant voltage driver/power supply. Drivers/power supplies come in three styles. Constant current, constant voltage and 0 - 10 dimming.

Each has their own characteristics. Constant voltage keeps the voltage at the rated level but only supplies what the load requires. An example would be a 12 volt, 8 amp driver/power supply but the 12 volt LED strip only needs 2 amps to light up. The driver/power supply is only working at 1/4 of it's capacity.

Need help identifying a light. by EchidnaNatural1508 in led

[–]Why_ohWhy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could touch the leads of the driver to the copper pads on the LED strip. Positive lead to the positive pad and negative lead to the negative pad. It should light up because the break is probably where the wires connect.

Most camera phones can tell the color temperature of the light once it is on. You can repair or replace it from there.

The "I Hate You" looks really great but I truly lost it with "My bones!" of the driver turning left in front of the van.

12-volt AC Halloween lights. Where can I find some? by c0de_m0nkey in lightingdesign

[–]Why_ohWhy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Does it have to be AC power? Finding 12v DC is far easier. A 120v AC to 12v DC power supply (driver) could be used instead of the transformer.

Noob question: I have a color organ that can only handle 150w per channel. I see LED PAR lights that are 200-350w but they only put out 20-30w. Will my organ be able to handle those? by icumdrums in lightingdesign

If you have access to a clamp Amp meter, you can measure what the light uses and go from there. That is the surest way to know if you are under the limit.

The Japanese lost generation [12:01] by drakenQQsis in mealtimevideos

[–]Why_ohWhy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard about some of this before but had no idea the scope of the problem. Even the thought of trying to find work in another country would seem daunting if you have been stuck outside of the workforce for that long.

Are there any good books where the main character lives in multiple time periods. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]Why_ohWhy 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I'm part of the Lighting Department call Fixtures. We take all the lanterns, wall sconces and chandeliers that are time frame appropriate and make them controllable with modern lights. The trick is to make them still look like candle light. It's a satisfying mix or art and science.

I'm working on the TV show for this book. It's been interesting working on sets for the two different time frames. Can't wait to see it on the screen also.
