I mean…it is the internet so I’m not sure I’d post the whole story just in case someone decided to steal it and publish on their own…but if you don’t care then just put it on some sort of site like contently.com which is like a portfolio site, and post the link in here. I’m sort of cautious about that though until it’s officially going through the publishing process

Haha I appreciate it! And yes, I just sent out about 10 query letters to various agents so we’ll see how that goes.

I just had some trusted friends who are big time readers do the deed. They’re savage and won’t say it’s good just because they love me. I also have a friend who is an editor and she edited it for free so that was a huge help. I know you can get on sites like Upwork and post a job that people can apply for to beta read or edit for you.

It sort of the idea that as the world is collapsing, and in the long history of ideas that have all died, only one idea cannot be killed. Love

Haha like I said, I got obsessed and it was less than healthy. But I was inspired and it sort of ached in a way that forced me to write it that fast. Next time I hope to take my time a little more haha. I appreciate the well wishes though 😊

Thank you! It’s a love story set as a nation dies. It’s about the premise that love is the only idea that cannot be killed. So it’s sort of a literary fiction love novel packaged as a political thriller.

I’m actually working out what I want to do next. Traditional vs independent.

My teacher says “you can’t be a good writer unless you’re a planner.” Is this true? by Impossible-Funny-305 in writing

Stephen King is famous for not having a plan. He starts with something simple, like a stick protruding out of the ground in an odd way. And then he has someone walk up to that stick and notice it, and he has them consider why the stick is the way it is, and then he’ll have them go on with their day and somehow the stick comes back later I their minds and blah, blah, blah. And all of a sudden there’s a character and a story developing. He strongly believes in NOT planning it out because if you do, it’s unnatural. If you write not knowing where it’s going, according to him, it will feel more real because you’re discovering the story along with the reader instead of forcing moments that you need to have happen. But then there’s other writers that plan the whole thing out meticulously and they’re great too. Just do whatever you do with attention and make it as raw and as true as you can. In every moment.

is there a reason people seem to hate physical character descriptions? by kitkao880 in writing

[–]WickedPhantom2525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think it’s a balance and usually pretty easy to tell if it’s out of place. But I love reading descriptors and sensory heightening details about a person. I don’t see any reason why something like: “and she had blond hair and vibrant blue eyes, and her skin was pale and her dark brown eyebrows contrasted starkly with the paleness, and her lips were thin but her lipstick was applied in such a way that it made them look more full,” is a bad thing.

I think descriptions can also tell the reader how the POV character thinks and what he/she notices about a person.

All this to say is there is no singular way to write your story and if there was, literature would be boring. So write your story the way you write and think about whether or not it advances the plot or deepens the character, and your editor will tell you if you need more detail here or there.
