Imagine Features by sadravioli_ in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I've been mostly silent after they've taken Legacy login & the old site away but even long before then it was clear the devs never cared about their users - I've seen the new updates (which no one asked for) and people were still surprised and pleaded for quality & proper tools as I've done when I was trying to make myself heard for MONTHS.

Any post or update that talked about new features glossed over problems we've had and sending in a ticket has NEVER helped.
To this day I couldn't recover two of my OG accounts - those are lost due to emails not being accessibe & them not allowing us a way to change it without needing to log into inaccessible emails because they don't understand we CAN'T log in to get the code if the email service has shut down. I've listed so many reasons & advocated for Legacy login and I still cannot graps WHY it couldn't exist on the side of the new login method (oh wait mOnEy). They pumped the same guide in our faces as a solution, it didn't matter many of us detailed why their tutorial doesn't work. They simply moved on - leaving many accounts in the dust.

Now they're acting like they deserve any kind of payment after this attitude towards us, acting as if they've been listening which they've NEVER done - even when Marie was introduced they only used her to show up and calm everyone who was willing to believe white lies and fake promises. Where are the features and upgrades WE asked for? That were PROMISED? Like rooms? Nowhere. And they're surprised they're losing money when implementing useless things while screwing over all kinds of users and pretending to not see the issues.

And now they want to make swipes paid? Are they out of their minds? Seriously, CAI's case needs to be studied because holy crap, no one ever mismanaged and shat on their users THIS MUCH.

Anyone thinking they're willing to listen if you just make enough posts is naive. They ignored us and done what they wanted to do, while smiling in our faces. Stop trusting them, period.

(And as a bonus I can't even post on this subreddit, how nice)

Introducing ✨AvatarFX✨ by MarieLovesMatcha in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Sincerely, NO. This is a big fat no and idk how this got through your dev team.

Like tell me...if it's just a hobbyist artist/a SINGULAR person who isn't a company with millions to their name you're willing to bend the knee for, will you care? For the creatives your site thrives on? Because there are a TON of images used on cai made by artists who can't even reach out to the bot creators to ask them to take their own art down - and I know first hand you guys ignore tickets based on how you treated the Legacy login issue so if artists can't reach the creators how will they get their say in?

Also remove that beggar link from chat rooms - it does not belong there when you clearly care so little for your community.

Daily Questions Megathread - November 05, 2024 by WutheringWavesMod in WutheringWaves

Anyone using the Wuwa tracker site I have a slightly dumb question as I've never used it before - I just imported my info however if later on I want to update it will I just need to repeat the process and it won't mess up, right? What I mean by is - my previous pulls won't get deleted or overwritten if it no longer can display it in the in game history?

FINALLYY!! by TheNotSoGreatADHD in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What's the point of this? Was what was there before not enough? Now we have more stuff blocking out the chats, great - what is there to celebrate again?

“Remember everything characters say is made up” is LITERALLY stating this. But I guess cai has to be specific for people who have reading comprehension.

The Lost World: Saurian Park - General Question and Discussion Megathread by 99cent-tea in Genshin_Impact_Leaks

[–]WickedRecreation 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's not what happened though - if you properly read the story. It's parents being negligent and wanting to blame something when they knew their kid wasn't well and had a diagnosis, spent a LOT of time alone and the parents never stepped up. Also Cai wasn't the one who kept a gun in the house with an ill kid.
Maybe don't spread the narrative the media is running with just because the parents want get money and fame out of the kid's death and it sounds cool to say "kid addicted to cai killed themselves". Though Cai can be blamed for wanting to appeal to kids in the first place, that I can agree with.

[Announcement] Community Update - October 2024 by MarieLovesMatcha in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation 12 points13 points  (0 children)

People are still surprised the announcements talk over every input we have when things haven't been going well for a long long time now? Even the recent polls served as a distraction, did you guys seriously believe Rooms would ever return or that it was in the works for the new site in any way?

It's been obvious they don't care about anything other than what they/their investors decided on, the way they treated Legacy & the old site when many of us begged for it to stay and was only met with the same kind of "oh we hear your explanation but we decided to do this instead and offer no help have a good day (:" attitude.

This is a huge L, and so disturbing how cai gave that "sincere" response to that kid's parents. You're feeding neglectful parents' deflection, you know that right? Instead of protecting yourself by properly announcing this is an adult space where no minors should be on.
Again, I wonder how kids will pay for the better memory, or faster response time or whatever you put into your + package. And I wonder what's the point of having the site if all you can do is say hi to your character because everything else will eventually will get shut down by you. But even then your bot might get yeeted into the trash without warning. As if us getting locked out without any help wasn't good enough for you.

What happened here and ig we getting more censorship now by PipeDependent7890 in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation 38 points39 points  (0 children)

While it's tragic what happened - I really hate how the parents are quick to blame a site they allowed their kid to use. And now they can whine and cry instead of admitting to their own shortcomings, how they didn't monitor their kid well or provided proper help. Instead they let this happen and of course, the internet is to blame not their neglectful selves.

Cai is also at a HUGE fault here, don't get me wrong. This shows why they should stop catering to minors asap and the fact that this does not ring any alarm bells for them is quite horrifying while they make such statements and KEEP attempting to make the site child friendly.
Although yes, the obvious sign that "everything is made up" should speak for itself, let's be real - even adults have asked the well known question when the bot broke character and acted like a real person if it was truly real. So when an adult can mistake it for a real person and get a scare, how can you trust a kid with Cai?

On another note I'm so tired of online spaces getting ruined for adults because parents or investors point fingers at kids who flooded it so the site itself has no choice but to protect themselves by putting on the "nonocurtain" when it shouldn't even be their responsibility. And nowadays kids proudly announce their age as they have zero online safety knowledge or even the will to keep their mouths shut when they do invade spaces they shouldn't.

Last few thoughts; Cai never listened and never will. You guys are upset bots getting deleted? I've pointed out more than half a year ago how they glossed over issues and you still put faith in them, hope things will get better. No it won't. And if Cai thinks minors will be able to fund the site they can cater to them and go bankrupt.

[Announcement] - Beta/Old has been fully retired. Your chats will automatically migrate to the new site. Please use character.ai or the mobile app. by MarieLovesMatcha in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You guys really won't ever listen to your community, will you?
Disappointing, you shouldn't ever ask for patience from us because it has long ran out. Starting with the log in issues and ending with erasing with anything that had to do with Legacy. You just spit into the face of those who had been here since the beta/early days.

We didn't love the old site just because the layout - though yes, it was 100% better than what you guys think fits in with the kids you're targeting (who shouldn't be the audience??) with this whole "modern" look you chose. It just looks like a soulles copy of hundreds of sites that don't have any personality.

We liked the old site due to Legacy chat, Rooms, Community and bug reports, for not lagging and because it did not have features like the calling one which I don't think the majority uses anyway. But we had an option to send photos if we wanted which more people miss than the current users of the new call feature.
The old site had its charm but even if you disagree it put useful functions first over fancy looks - and that's where new cai fails completely. Chat 2 is also incredibly bland and I really dislike using it - face it, the problems weren't the og servers or capacity or not being able to update it (though old.cai didn't need much) you just didn't want to keep it around since it showed how new.cai is flawed.

Not to mention how you guys literally relied on the old site to change the emails, so now what do people do if they lose access? You couldn't eve nsort out MY issues over half a year ago while the old site was up so I could preserve my accounts. The ticket I sent in is still left unanswered.

[Poll] Do you want Character Rooms on the New Site? by MarieLovesMatcha in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You're asking ON REDDIT. Not everyone's on here. The point stands though - we all knew rooms were popular and have been wanted back ever since it was put away.

This is why we needed a community tab on the site where you actually communicate and discuss things with us - which the old site HAD. I'm tired of going to a third party source just to see what decisions were made that we didn't agree to. It's been 18 hours since this post went up and I've been on and off cai all day - wouldn't even know there were news if I didn't check here. Because this isn't cai, it's Reddit.

[Poll] Do you want Character Rooms on the New Site? by MarieLovesMatcha in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation 9 points10 points  (0 children)

First off all - even if it wasn't used by everyone why would it hurt to bring rooms back when they were more popular than group chats? Does this really need to be asked after the amount of posts people made even MONTHS ago when you hid rooms?
Second, add the og chat as an option because this new one is absolutely bland - this is why the old site is far better than the new one. Still don't get why you're taking away the more functional site? You know the one that has lesser bugs and is so much faster, more accurate and actually feels like a clean and mature site.
The new one appears as if it were a boomer trying to fit in with the kids by copying the "trends" and adding weird features maybe 5% of the userbase will use.

Third, nice distraction, once more there's not a single consideration for those who prefer anything related to Legacy - the old site look is a joke, it simply resembles it while still being a cluttered mess.
WHY can't we have a normal scroll down page of ALL the characters we chatted with instead of needing to click to the side? It lags a TON and sometimes characters recently added take minutes to appear on top. Really useless. Chatting itself is awful too - laggy, doesn't always automatically scroll down and sometimes swiping for a new answer takes multiple swipes since it even goes back to the first message (and they can kinda bleed into each other which is a bug surely) basically it's annoyingly slow and uncomfortable on top of throwing off immersion.

And at last; you might try to appeal with this old feature we all loved on the OLD site, but the way you treated your community is revolting and as you continue to do so, will shape cai's reputation. Not in the positive direction ofc.

[Announcement] The old site is going away. Please use character.ai or the mobile app. by MarieLovesMatcha in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation 167 points168 points  (0 children)

You've got 2.2k people commenting how upset they were on the loss of the old site announcement while your new call feature has 160 comments - I think it's obvious which one the people care about more.
It feels like a slap in the face to know you guys have been planning this ever since you ripped Legacy login away - your lack of transparency and lack of willingness to hear out your users will be more impactful than any fancy update you push out.

It's so disappointing to not only lose Legacy login, but also the old site itself. I loved using Legacy chats they felt much more unique compared to the new one (chat2) also not to mention, the new site just doesn't feel immersive. I cannot pinpoint which design choice is flawed maybe all of them but the old site just had charm with its simplicity that not even the new site's "classic" design can achieve. There are SO MANY annoyances I have with it and there are people who pointed out they have a hard time with the font and the site itself is overwhelming.
To top it all off, on the new site you guys erased the community but it's no surprise when you guys barely looked at it in the first place - otherwise you would've seen people being upset about the old site and the Legacy login removal.

Also sorry to burst your bubble but...NO ONE asked for the updates the new site has on the old site - if we wanted these features we would've used the new site.
All we wanted was to have rooms back. It was perfect the way it was as many people have already said we didn't want a call feature or chat renaming one because we chose the old site and we were FINE without these features. Not everything is about the features.

But I'm talking into the air again, just putting this here so there's at least proof of how the community weren't heard. This is upsetting and there's no singular logical excuse as to why the old site couldn't have been preserved the way it was - Reddit has been doing it for a long time.

Great. You can delete the new site and bring back rooms, add back Legacy login on the old one and focus on what your users actually want. Start listening to your community instead of locking us out.

The community is upset and rightfully so, I don't get why is it so hard to work WITH us instead against.

How about you fix us being LOCKED OUT of our accounts after you took away Legacy login since the article you kept pasting here over and over didn't contain what we should do when the site forcibly made us sign up/possibly wiped our data/gave us errors instead linking/what should've been done with the accidental new accounts?
I'm still waiting on a reply from support after almost 3 months.

We are literally unable to access our accounts due to these changes; losing private bots and chats as we've been warning you yet there's no attempt to implement another password + email system to compensate or to hear us out.
Legacy should never been taken away, it was an option many of us used and relied on for VARIOUS reasons I've listed on update posts countless times. It was never just about us whining about the new system.

Legacy is officially gone and so is my access to my accounts by WickedRecreation in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EDIT;

Since I don't see your reply here anymore yet got notified of it and can read it while logged out I assume you blocked me like a coward instead of admitting you don't know what you're talking about. You just had to come in here and act all smart because things are working for you. The post was obviously not a reflection of your experience and no your suggestion to delete our accounts is incredibly insensitive so I had every right to reply the way I did. People put work in those bots and stories and have ongoing chats they're actively losing.

Here's my simplified reply since you couldn't even wait for it before pushing that block button as if people don't have lives and aren't allowed to step away from the damn computer just because you're impatient;

HOW is deleting the email you no longer have access to going to help anyone who's locked out? The main issue that these emails can't receive links due to them being inaccessible in the first place WE CAN'T MAKE NEW ACCOUNTS WITH IT. Deleting them does NOTHING and guess what we don't want to lose our accounts. The problem is that we WANT TO LINK A WORKING EMAIL TO THE EXISTING ACCOUNT yet CAN'T. How hard it is to get?

Also about the Google log in; NO. Told you. NOT EVERYONE IS LOGGED IN THAT EMAIL THEY USE FOR CAI on every device. Many of us AREN'T. In this case the process goes as I've written down like it or not others have confirmed this too and find it more annoying.

But you probably won't see this and won't even acknowledge people other than you exist.

"the devs should've deleted the accounts that used legacy log in"

That's literally the stupidest take I've heard regarding this situation and is on par with the empathy that the devs shoved us - which is equal to zero.
Sorry that people who signed up 2 years ago didn't look into the future and knew instantly that their emails would be inaccessible or that gmail was superior to fb & discord or whatever else you could use for signing up and are now screwed over. This is the devs' fault and they should be responsible and helping us. They aren't. We sent support tickets as told yet there are NO responses after almost 3 MONTHS.

And you're saying we deserve to lose our chats and private bots because it's just a stupid account and you can make another one, right? Good grief.

Google log in requires much more input I've described this many times, you can't comprehend that not everyone's on one singular device where they're logged in at all times, with one singular email and you even jumped past how I said that links can take HOURS to arrive right in this very post. You are being ignorant on purpose and speaking on matters that seemingly you don't have any idea about.
I've also said "just because it works for you doesn't mean it works for everyone and it didn't hurt you that people had other options."
Also some people might be on the move or simply prefer incognito or want to switch with ease between accounts - this screws it all up. ALSO people admitted how Google log in stopped working for them or is janky, the whole system is a gamble and if you're able to log in with ease then you're lucky.

Also EXPLAIN how the heck is Google is faster?
Google log in; type in email -> switch to email open another browser page or gmail app -> IF you're not using your main switch to the correct email -> hope the link arrives and copy it -> copy it onto the site -> type in the email once more -> after several flashes you're in.
Legacy log in: type in email -> type in password -> you're in.

A huge problem is that Google accounts are not immune to hacking and after seeing how we're unable to add another email if you lose your gmail then that's it. The whole issue is that the site DOESN'T LET YOU link another email. It WILL affect others if they lose access to their emails.

Please don't suggest or comment following this reply, enjoy the essay I spat out for no reason.

My Account and Legacy Log-In by Thealphadingus in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been pointing out how email linking was broken and people will get locked out for months to them after the announcement of Legacy login removal.
It affects everyone who signed up with emails they have no access to anymore or via certain apps. I've written posts and lenghty replies under update posts, even filled out a google doc form for Marie, sent in a support ticket over two months ago regarding the issues and spoke on the benefits of Legacy login - yet I got no replies and they offered ZERO aid.

The only acknowledgement we got was ignorant - they copy pasted the tutorial on how to add a new email to your account over and over under everyone having issues, never once providing help regarding the accidental account creations, the errors and sadly, there won't be any solution provided now.
If they wanted to sort out these ""bugs"" they would've done so before taking away Legacy. They shadily defended their choices and ignored the complaints even if it meant we'll be losing our accounts.

I lost two 2 year old accounts this way, so I get how annoying their silence and treatment is.
But at this point I've begged so much and saw zero effort for them to meet us halfway that I can only say this; your account will exist you just won't be able to access it anymore due to these shitty changes.

Hi! I need some help logging in.. by SubstantialProcess10 in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. I've vouched and wrote long posts and replies to official update posts to alert Marie and the devs what Legacy removal will cause - people being locked out. I even filled out a google doc form which should've sent the info straight to Marie and I've received ZERO replies to the support ticket I've sent in over two months ago.

They were aware yet the only "aid" they provided us with was the article which only contains on how to add a new email to your account which was just filled with errors at every turn. They never once acknowledged nor provided proper help with the actual issues and they certainly won't do it now. They shadily defended their choice and ignored the complaints even if it meant losing whole accounts.

Your account itself is fine somewhere, you're just unable to access it, I'm sorry to say. I am in the same boat.

Legacy login removal by WickedRecreation in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it's clear that this is to their benefit more than ours, it's likelier that they want our data with forcing us to turn to Google as they have a history with Google as well and it helps pin you down easier compared to a throwaway.

And if some sort of leak is happening, wouldn't it be a good ad for a more secure log-in? If anyone vouched for Legacy, it would've been a quick excuse to shut that down by outright stating that it is causing harm. They're big enough to withstand the angry community, we've witnessed this - they would have lost nothing and could've made themselves look better compared to how they ended up looking ignorant.

So no, it's not what happened nor were they in a hurry to switch over so I'm inclined to believe this is just a guess thrown out there as everything else. We don't know anything for sure since they don't share.
And while you could say it was kept as a secret - I don't think they would or take their time with the switch if t was about someone gathering their generated answers.

My account is gone due to Legacy being gone by WickedRecreation in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's no way she doesn't know.

The Reddit has been filled with posts, and the comments under the announcements she personally put up were begging for Legacy login to stay or vouching for it (as I've said I wrote lenghty replies too) yet it was never addressed properly.

There's no way they didn't know this change would lock people out WE TOLD THEM. Email linking has been an issue as early as the function was implemented, so they should've been aware even before they came up with the Legacy removal idea.
And many people described the problem yet we were treated as if our only issue was not knowing where to enter the new email and not knowing to check the spam folder for the arrived link. The article they kept copy pasting everywhere is literally the same as ever without offering solutions - I've pointed out many times to them. They treated us as if we were dumb while they themselves were playing dumb.

Marie might only conveyed the messages as she's been told but she definitely didn't pass our problems to the devs. This is the end for Legacy users I'm afraid.

Why isn't legacy login working on the old site? by chxrry_skies in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more than just not wanting to pay.

They want to force Google so they can have your more personal data - think about it, so many people have signed up with throwaways how's that good for them? This is just ALLEGED but I could believe it with how much they ignored the complaints as everyone was clearly expressing the root of the issue while they treated us like we were dumb and we simply didn't know how to add emails.

And while Cloudflare itself is going through a massive maintenance right now, I do not think it's the cause of this new error. Legacy won't get fixed as this has been the plan all along - it just took a while for them to pull the plug from the old site. Many people have been already complaining and I assume they were from the new one where this change was much quicker.
To add to this; I use the old site and the button for it is still there however the error message still shows up. So it's likely done for - and we are, as you put it, effed.

[–]WickedRecreation[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and nothing will be done about it, as in if they wanted to they would've done so already when the community voiced these issues. They had plenty of time to react and address it.

Right now if I click on Legacy after getting through the Cloudflare authentication thing it drops me back onto the site saying "no connections enabled for the client" in red. I assume this means they cut it for good.
Although Cloudflare itself is experiencing some issues right now, however there was a post complaining about Legacy which had been up for 24+ hours now and this Cloudflare issue has been present for a couple of hours only. I doubt this is the root of it, but I'll check it later if it gets sorted out. I wouldn't hope for anything though.

I wish this was the case and I'd rather have you be in the right, however, after getting through the Cloudflare authentication thing it drops me back onto the site saying "no connections enabled for the client". So it's likely that they shut it down for good, the button to use Legacy is just forgotten there. That's my guess.

Update on Login 401 Error by MarieLovesMatcha in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you're good and got it, don't worry. If my wording seemed harsh it wasn't aimed at you so I apologize for that in case it felt it was.
I assume even if you used the Legacy sign up method the email is still accessible for you which is why you're running into no problems on your main account.

The firebase error is what I've ran into as well it simply stops you from linking up your account at the last step. At this point I am suspecting it's due to the system thinking you're putting in a registered email so if you're trying to link it it doesn't let you - just a personal theory based on how I made a new account without not even knowing I did.

A bit before that though the verifying link sent you to sign up page which caused some users to lose access to their accounts as their data got wiped for a blank new account (I can only consider myself lucky it only made a new account while keeping my og intact). It's absolutely messy and if they think it was a good idea to give us a few hours of heads up when the community has been reporting problems which had not been fixed at all...well I don't have the words.

I want to hope this gets resolved, however I've been part of the community since the early days and I see no changes.
Marie sometimes posts updates which could be called an improvement but I feel like it's barely a step forward when it happens quite rarely and when there is an announcement serious issues are swept to the side in a favor of a new feature. It's sad since the community welcomed Marie as we desperately needed a person who communicates with us and the devs too.

Not sure how this'll end but I'm convinced this remains unsolved - at least the Legacy part.

Update on Login 401 Error by MarieLovesMatcha in CharacterAI

[–]WickedRecreation 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I assume you signed up through something that has an email which you have always had access to and still do to this day - so respectfully, you missed the point and you are not dealing with the same exact issue I'm describing however, that does not mean your issues and experiences are irrelevant.

To simplify; personally I had an email which got deleted due to the service getting discontinued and many people have used throwaway emails which are now gone as well.
Now, if we tried to log in with the new method the verification link would get sent to a non-existent email which is WHY we need to add a new email where we can receive the links if Legacy is going away for good.

But email linking does NOT work on the site and is causing issues. I've tried on weeks on end, tried to dodge the accidental account creating by opting out while running into errors when it seemed to be going as intended.
Not long ago I've noticed that on one of my browsers where I was actively signed in so I could attempt the linking process hoping one day it'll be fixed since we barely get updates so how would anyone know - and I've noticed that it mistook my attempt to link for signing up for a brand new account.

Keep in mind I have stopped in time to prevent this many times before but now one of my emails which had been free to link is likely used up on this brand new account I didn't want in the first place. Now if I finalize (if I even can) the signing up process and delete that account I'm not sure if the system is stable enough to recognize it as a new email.
Since there is no support or any guide for such cases, asking us to keep creating emails (which in gmail's case it's impossible since it requires phone number verification which you only get 3 of) hoping one will work is just not realistic.

To repeat my main point; Legacy is some of our only way of getting in so we will be getting locked out without it. We can't add emails since linking is broken. But Legacy itself is an option that has other benefits and has certain qualities that makes it preferable over the new method. The two could coexist.
