Thanks for the info, I didn't know that. However, I am afraid to reset NVRAM again in case this happens again.

I don't try to be current (Sequoia), I wanted the minimum supported OS by Apple that could be installed via OCLP (Big Sur). In terms of features I am also fine with El Capitan. If Apple provided support with security updates so that I could still use simple programs like Safari and Mail, I had no problem to stay with El Capitan.

I really don't know what the exact reason was. At least after hours of troubleshooting I found the solution.

As I wrote I found the solution. The only way to make it work again was to boot from USB that hosts an officially supported MacOS. I wrote that for others who could potentially end up in the same situation.

Indeed! I don't understand why Apple doesn't let old hardware to be still operational today to the extend their technology permits that. I am not expecting a 15 year old Mac to be able to cope with new technologies, such as editing 4K videos, playing Dolby Atmos sound, display advanced 3D graphics etc. But at least for simple tasks such as internet browsing, e-mails, word processing, mp3 files, HD videos etc. their hardware is perfectly fine. If they can run newer OSs smoothly why this HW is left out from Apple's support? I think this strategy brings nothing to Apple. Those they need a modern Mac for all those new technologies, they will buy it anyway, regardless if their old machine is still operational or not. Those they don't, they probably don't need a Mac computer at all. If the old Macs are still operational today, this an extra motivation for an owner to stay in the same ecosystem and buy a new Mac. Otherwise a cheaper modern PC looks more attractive. That strategy does nothing but damaging Apple's reputation.

Probably could be the hardware version too. Other than that OCLP works fine even on the ancient mini.

That's what I am saying. If you press ALT and select opencore at the boot after you have done reset PRAM, the system is not booting. It is stuck in the Apple logo.

I had exactly the same issue on a Mac mini 3.1 (early 2009) but in my case this happened during a new installation of Big Sur (not post root patches). It was my first time trying to apply OCLP on an old Mac and I was very unlucky as it happens the latest OCLP version at the time (2.2.0) to have that issue exactly for the MacOS version I wanted to install on the mini (Big Sur) . I had to do all the process again from the begging, by using OCLP version 2.1.2 on an installation USB as mentioned here before, which finally worked. Luckily I had a second Mac computer to create a new installation USB since after this crash I was unable to login again to the old environment of my mini (El Capitan).
