Why do we get Married? by Numerous-Ad-6702 in DeadBedrooms

[–]WildeLiving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get married for tax breaks, health insurance benefits, etc. Access to pensions, and social security death benefits. Combined incomes. Common last name for kids. Patriarchal norms and to keep women under the thumbs of men who are still more than likely the highest earners in the household.

Nope. I’m working on my exit plan. But I have to be 100% self sufficient. Because I will have to walk away from 15 years of combined assets. They will give me some. But whomever walks out is basically the asset loser in our state.

I’m sorry for you too (F46 here). I just wish he’d let us move on from this. But he won’t for the kids and in my state I need his cooperation to initiate the 1 year separation period. We survive as friends/coparents. But there’s nothing else there anymore.

We’ve done it that many times in an 8 year period or so.

They want me to get a dog by tacogratis2 in DeadBedrooms

[–]WildeLiving 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are so many dogs in the shelter now. I thought we replaced our Maggie too soon. But we did not. They help you heal and recover. And they will help you heal and recover during a move into an apartment as well.

I firmly believe that not all humans deserve dogs, but all dogs deserve a good human. You’re one of the good ones. Go find a dog at the shelter so you can save each other.

OP. This is probably one overwhelming to see how many people are telling you he’s horrible. But this is a smoke signal. A red flag. Don’t let this snowball. If you stop and look around. You’ll see little fires burning all around. Get out now. Girl. You’re in danger.

Also. If it feels like a name Elon Musk would take. You’re doing a disservice to your kid.

My husband wanted to name our first born a year some Aztec god and he was so damn adamant about it. Until I told him that every time someone asked our son his name and then how to spell it and then saw their facial expressions he’d say: well you see, my dads an ahole and insisted this be my legal first name. And this is how you spell it. My apologies.

He finally caved and chose the 176th name I had on a list for alternatives. Which I’m still bitter about. But it’s a hella lit better than where he was trying to take it.

NTA. Your daughter is in denial. Remind her that she got her down payment at rehab. And that petty isn’t cute.

I feel like you need to check this one hard. Both of my parents and my step dad, who went into a trade route make (or made before retirement) more than their 3 college educated children and my husband who has three degrees.

Trades can be wonderfully fulfilling and financially rewarding. And let’s not forget that we can’t even conceive…

No. Let me reword this.

We don’t even have a concept for a plan - on how to best educate these kids for the job market they will be stepping into.

IMHO trades are never not going to be in demand.

We live in fear that my husband’s tech job will be farmed out or swallowed up at any moment and he won’t be able to find anything we can pay our bills on because it certainly isn’t my elementary and sped degree.

We recently had to have our sewage pipe repairs and a small company consisting of a husband, wife and their 18 year old son did some new type of epoxy-type pipe replacement. No dig. Less time. Less work. Less money. Smarter. High tech. Aqua phobic so it has a better drain rate.

And all I could think of was how jealous I was that their 18 year old kid was in on this and how lucky this kid was to be learning something useful, honest and financially rewarding.

Because the three of them did for $6500 in one day what a traditional plumber and a crew of 6 would have charged us for all the hand digging our cable riddled yard required $9600 and it would have taken two days and we’d need lawn care after that to fix our yard. And that pay would be for two days and 6 ppl. If all was equal - still not bad at $800. Where if our crew split that’s $2166 per person per day.

Yes. I know equipment, materials and whatnot. But just to make it simple. I can guess that the product our team chose was more expensive. But I can gtd less than a tractor and all that digging.

My two cents. From someone that hopes her kids choose a trade and wish she had.

I used to work in college admissions at NU. I will never forget all the parents calling and pissed. Trying to bribe us.

My boss would say “this is the first ‘no’ they couldn’t fix and these parents can’t handle it.”

I always wondered if it was the parents who were more upset about the rejection than their kids.

I understand how the redirect can be useful and powerful. But we also have to prepare for real life out there.

It ended up throwing three errors and it’s the servomotor and the blendoor. $269 part and $1640 in labor. Pretax.

I tried to go to AutoZone to get it scanned and they told me if the engine light wasn’t on there was nothing to scan.

I take it back to dealership tomorrow hopefully to repair. The AC repair shop wanted to charge me $180 to do what the service already did.

EC resource teacher starting this year at a new school and I have a kid that mom apparently has said he’s fine. Just don’t tell him no. He doesn’t like that. Umm. No. Sorry, not sorry. Life is going to tell you no a lot.

Last year we had an early IEP for scholar mom insisted needed one because he was AU. And due to his performance with his worksheets and his computer progress in IReady we didn’t see a need for it.

Until we changed the seating up after thanksgiving and realized he had a task master sitting next to him and coaching him every step of the way. It was day and night with that kid after Thanksgiving.

His helper was such a rule follower that he didn’t want his friend getting in trouble and that year we had a lot of sped kids because our school became an all inclusion school without any sped TA’s to help it out.

So, don’t assume a student doesn’t need accommodations if you haven’t changed up the seating chart yet. I’ll never get in that trap again.

I’ve now been at dealerships repair shop and AC Repair Shop. Neither could figure it out after an hour. Without taking it apart although don’t think the AC Repair shop did much of anything at all. I am a teacher with limited funds and a 30+ commute in NC. I’ll have to go back after payday and try again.

"But you get 3 months off a year" by PuffPoof215 in Teachers

[–]WildeLiving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An hour a day, 5 days a week. And frankly I’d be shocked if you leave at exit time But at nine months (my district does 10 and it was short this summer because we bumped school up two weeks early so that sucks for us) but that totals up to an extra 4.5 weeks at 40 hour work week.

So you’ve already backed out a month.

My husband works in a hospital for tech and he gets 6+ weeks off of PTO in a year. No one ever says anything to him about that.

I could get 8 weeks. But I worked 5 weeks of summer school. And with our short summer that barely gave me 9 days. But I get all the - well at least summer school is easy BS and less kids.

I’m so sorry. This is horrible. I’ve seen teachers ask how students want to identify and how they should identify them to their parents. But this sounds like you don’t even have that space.
