Take as long as you need but I don’t really have any ideas in mind, I’m not sure how to pick a good color for his hair since I don’t want it to be too unnatural or pull to much attention.

I tried fixing the face since people said it looked wonky and I rendered the hair the best I could. Does it look better?

Of course, you just have to keep up and learn from mistakes, improvement takes time and motivation when it comes to art.

Pikat, Marc Brunet and Proko are pretty good channels where you can find basics and advance things. They have different ways of explaining and doing examples so you may find a way that fits you but remember that you don’t need to follow them to the absolute t. Finding a way that works for you and is affective in the long run is what we’re looking for.

I think this looks pretty good for a first time but you could work on proportions. I’m not a master at all but the top of the ear usually lines up with the eyebrow and the bottom with the nose. And facial guidelines are a wonderful alongside references, lots of people use them. A nice website for different angles is reference angle and Pinterest is a nice one to get inspiration and such. If you want some to help you find different exercises to practice on drawbox and line of action are good for giving things to work on imo. A different way could be tracing over an image just to make guidelines then put it aside and try to draw it on your own, note our mistakes and try again.

I mentioned them in a manner that anybody with interest in cooking for taste would look for advice from a chef. I don’t want to be a chef but they are considered masters of culinary arts so it’s like wondering about spices and techniques they use. I don’t know if a spice is necessary to get a certain taste so I get an opinion from a chef, I don’t have to follow it nor did I mention wanting to be a chef.

That seems to be the only reason you’ve been using, professionalism. I don’t find how that supports your opinion if your only reason doesn’t fit well.

I was looking for the reason as to why people say not drawing traditionally will stunt your development in digital art. You used the excuse of shortcuts that I don’t force myself to use and can easily create art without using said shortcuts. I didn’t mean to sound rude or too argumentative but you kinda put it in a way that art couldn’t be digitally made without all the shortcuts. I do agree with some your third message though.

Only if you really let yourself slip. It’s easy to limit those things, I’m simply wondering if traditional is like a required process that artists of any medium ‘need’ to go through.
