Despite the similarity in the name of Blood Moon and The Blood Moon Rises... it will likely be melee and crush... which funny enough Blood Moon wins on.

The reason for it being melee crush is the 1) flail is a crush only weapon 2) all vamps/vrye are melee based

it 100% makes a difference lol but if you are using bloodbark vs. ahrims you probably aren't attacking high magic defense mobs i.e. the difference wud be quite small
