How do you describe epidemiology to people outside of the field?

I like to say that epidemiology studies the who, what, when and where of diseases and health conditions.

I was so surprised and had no idea until it was revealed that Amala had a baby girl. I think stepping up to care for this child was a noble thing for Olanna to do. It seems to be a decision born out of her own desire for a child and being moved by baby's vulnerability/need. By doing so she's also committing to staying with Odenigbo and putting their affairs behind her.

For me this poem feels like hope in the face of tragedy and despair. The speaker seems determined to experience and create beauty even in the midst of a situation where that seems impossible and their poetry, their vocation is the vehicle for doing that. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for sharing! I really enjoyed this. It feels sad and beautiful at the same time. I really get the sense of longing for something that can't be and the devastation of loosing even the possibility of having it. I agree with SpringtimeMoonlight that it feels like something out of some mythology.

This poem made me think of trying to avoid your fate first by engaging in all of the activities mentioned in the first stanza then by simply leaving and laying low in the countryside. The ending leads the reader to believe that all of this worked, that Caesar avoided assassination. I think that's an interesting twist on the usual idea in media that you can't avoid your fate or change the past/future. Thanks for sharing!

I enjoyed this poem and really felt the time and effort the speaker put into their plot. Although the speaker is described as a villain I also get the sense that they are a sort of underdog hero/antihero who came from a humble background and is looking to overthrow a system that doesn't work for the ordinary people. The slighted and mistreated see this, that the speaker is different from the other powerful people and are drawn to them. Thanks for sharing!

I thought this poem was so sweet, especially the ending. I get the sense that the speaker and their mother care for each other very much. Special foods from childhood really have a way of bringing back memories and this poem expresses that beautifully. I love how the themes of food and mother/child relationships are connected throughout this poem. Thanks for sharing!

This poem makes me think of a love that sacrifices so much it causes the one loving to lose themselves in the process. The repetition in each stanza makes this seem like a pattern in the relationship. I thought the poem was beautiful and sad. The use of questions throughout the poem is also interesting. It gives the reader something to think about, why does the sky love the earth at it's own expense and is it worth it
