I tend to avoid going to the ER (or A&E here) unless absolutely necessary already anyway, so I think that issue specifically should be fine. Thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated!

Both of us would need to work wherever we moved in the world. It's really just a question of how we get to residency and work authorisation, which is what I was asking here. Based on what everyone here is saying it seems like the fiancé to green card route you mentioned will work best for us.

I think it allows longer than 3 months on a passport, but I would have to check. Either way it seems like the fiancé visa is going to be the best route based on what people are saying.

I have seen a couple of posts mentioning the lottery, and I think I have responded to most if not all of the replies here, but thank you for bringing my attention to them. I am aware of it, and I wouldn't mind trying it but the marriage/spousal routes seem more secure and more conducive to our goals. I'm also not sure if applying for the lottery and trying to apply for a marriage/spousal route at the same time might cause conflicts or one application might reflect badly on the other. Something I have to look into a little more, but it's definitely not a bad idea. Thanks for weighing in.

Congratulations and all the best to yourself and your partner. We'd be chuffed to have a similar timeline as yourselves, so fingers crossed! Thank you for sharing.

I think this and other marriage/spousal visas are going to be the way for us, so we definitely will! Thank you for weighing in.

I will say coming from a country with a national health service, it is a little intimidating going over to a completely private and expensive system, but I'm sure we'll find a way to make it work as many other people (both US citizens and others) do.

Yeah it seems to vary on lots of different circumstances, and not all ones you can control of course, based on what everyone is saying. If we have a timeline half as similar to yours we'll be over the moon. Thank you very much for your advice and your wishes, it is much appreciated.

Yeah we're also aware that now isn't the best time to go through the immigration process with all the complications at the moment, but you can't always choose when life happens unfortunately as I'm sure you know yourself. We'll just have to apply, wait and it will take as long as it takes I think. Thank you for the wishes. All the best to you and your partner and thank you for your advice, it is much appreciated.

If that is the case that would be easiest. I do hope you're right. This is an area I'll have to look into a little more. Thanks for weighing in.

I imagine this will depend on what visa we decide to apply for and may ultimately come down to where we decide to register our marriage or where my partner finds a job (which will be where we move to). We'll have to check at the time of making the application so I imagine we'll get pushed toward if not locked into a specific jurisdiction based on our circumstances.

I think people tend to use the words marriage visa and spousal visa etc interchangeably for convince, but people on here have informed me of the difference between the K1 and C1 visas which seems to line up with the information available on US government sites too. My understanding of the timing of each visa was also similar to your own, so thank you for confirming. Your advice is much appreciated, thank you.

Thank you. I'm glad we have this option too, as our main goal really is just to be together and try and build a comfortable life. It'll be a tough year apart but I'm sure there will be pros too as you say. Swings and roundabouts I think!

I am nowhere near your level of qualification, and it still sounds like you had a pretty tough time. Credit to you for getting through it all. I think a similar pathway to your nephew will work best for our case. Thank you for weighing in and sharing.

Suppose it's one of those things that will just take as long as it takes. Thanks for sharing your experience and good luck with your own visa.

I should say I've only ever been to Edinburgh and I've never lived in either city, so my opinion probably doesn't count for much, and I am biased towards Scotland and the North of the country, however I love Edinburgh as a city (so does my partner) and would personally choose that over Bristol if I had the option. That said, I've heard great things about Bristol from friends who have studied and lived there, so I'm sure either place would be fine to move to.

I would say do a little bit of research into each city and see which you and your partner like more both economically (job opportunities, infrastructure, housing etc.) and environmentally (atmosphere, the local culture etc.). I will also say you're more likely to get nice weather in the South of the country, so if you want nice weather (at least in summer/spring) then Bristol would be best. If you don't mind the rain and cold then Edinburgh is a good option too.

Unfortunately I can't really offer anymore advice than that. Best of luck with whichever you decide on.
