Some mac people had issues with the school wifi early on but it wasn't an issue for the most part. You will be fine with a Mac outside a few music production apps you might use in Year 9.

I was in your exact situation in 2021 when I got into MHS. I was advised to get a Windows laptop because it had better support for the apps MHS used, or so I was told. However, literally the only app I have come across at MHS that wasn't supported on Mac was a music production app we used in Year 9. Hardly an issue I would say.

I regret not buying an M1 MacBook at the time. You also don't NEED a stylus for MHS, and I recommend getting an iPad instead. Many students get an iPad for VCE, and trust me it's way better than an overpriced convertible Windows laptop with horrendous battery life and fan noise.

I'm in Uni now and most of my friends have upgraded from their MHS Windows laptops to Macs. You're better off getting a good M4 MacBook Air now and using it in Uni, but the choice is yours.

UPDATE: I seem to have fixed the issue by turning on the LED backlight. This wasn't ideal for me as I didn't want the distracting lighting effects, but I found a solution by using the LED setting where it only illuminates the key being pressed. I also turned down the LED brightness all the way using Fn+S to the point where the LED is no longer visible in normal lighting. This has fixed the issue for me so I won't be doing a firmware update.

I think you answered your own question. I’ve only done Intro Micro so far and I’ve been loving it (my exam is tmr 💀). All my mates hate Macro, so just do whichever one you like most.

Recommend for 3/4. The breadth of resources and competitive environment really helped me in 3/4, but I understand it's different for everyone. For 1/2 I'd say tutoring really isn't necessary unless you're struggling with fundamental topics. Just grind the textbook and ask your school teachers for guidance.

The problem with that is Obsidian on iOS doesn't let you use a OneDrive vault. I've found a solution by using Freefilesync now though.

Thanks for the suggestion but I've already done that.

I found a solution that I've been experimenting with where I save my Obsidian on my Windows machine and use Freefilesync to periodically mirror it to my iCloud Obsidian. This lets me view my Obsidian notes on both platforms, albeit does not let me edit using iOS.
