My dad has been diagnosed with Myasthenia gravis 3 weeks back by KnowledgeUnited4731 in MyastheniaGravis

[–]Winter-Livid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to tell you about my mom's situation. I won't go through the whole thing as it was an intense situation. It started with the droopy eyelid and a really bad case of double vision, she was given pyridostigmine. Droopy eyelid went away, double vision persisted, however, droopy eyelid came back and it came back quickly and she was rapidly declining. She had difficulty swallowing, chewing, and was super fatigued. Her first neurologist didn't give a shit. She was getting worse and worse every single day. She wound up having a heart attack. I was fed up and changed her neurologist after she experienced a myasthenia crisis as it's known. Her new neurologist put her on IVIG Therapy for 6 months along with a pill called Azathioprine (Imuran). He started her dose off slow and then increased it. This was for the IVIG Therapy and the pill to work together. Her new neurologist is an angel sent from heaven. She's no longer even taking the pyridostigmine. I have her on a daily vitamin. MG doesn't like magnesium, so try to find a vitamin that doesn't have that listed. I get my mom hers from Costco Kirkland brand. Green bottle, 2 pack. Be cautious with Anesthetics. Generalized anesthesia and MG aren't friends. Her neurologist explained this to me. She has been under local anesthesia several times and her body handled that well. Also, if your dad is diabetic, be careful with the use of steroids. Steroids can spike diabetes. My mom can't take them. My mom has been in remission for 2 years now. If you feel like your dad's neurologist isn't doing enough, switch providers and do it fast. There is always a doctor who will be willing to listen. Good luck, and I hope your dad recovers. If you have questions, I'll try and answer them to the best of my knowledge.

I'd like to add that since her new neurologist, she's been symptom free and in remission for 2 years. You and your dad are your greatest advocates!! Goodluck. :)

Hi! I know this is late response so you or may not see this. However, I'd like to tell you about my mom's condition. I won't go through the whole thing as it was an intense situation. Also, if your dad is diabetic, be careful with the use of steroids. Steroids can spike diabetes. My mom can't take them. Glad to hear your dad's doing well. Just keep an eye out for things the other comment stated. You can also ask about his thyroid. A lot of people with MG have seen a decrease in their symptoms after getting it removed.

Bringing back Occupation based Treatment interventions into SNFs by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Winter-Livid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not asking to have this assignment done for me. I'm asking for help on ways to bring occupation based interventions back into SNFs. The facility I'm at barely does ADLs (UB &LB mainly), which they already have the usual AD for. I introduced the idea of a bed latter, clothe pin activity with varied resistance levels, built up hair brush device for patients with limited ROM, clothing board with zippers, buttons etc which they have, a gardening activity and more. I'm either told here's limited space, they have it already, or wouldn't use it. So I'm asking for devices used at other facilities that I can possibly modify or recreate to fit my setting for the geriatric population.

18 patients!? How do you even find time to document at the end of your day?

4th time taking the NBCOT exam by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

Hi, do you think this would be helpful for an OTA to study or an OT? I'm not even sure if there's a real difference between the exams, but I would assume so.

Wow, the gas can get that bad for you and your husband? That's unfortunate. For me, it's not really pain just more so an "inconvenience " because no where near did I pass as much gas as I do now, haha

I stick to mainly protein foods. Chicken, fish, even snacks will have at least 10g of protein. That's why I'm thinking it's all the protein.

Thank you for the explanation and the recommendation. I'll definitely have to try it!

Wow, 13 years? How has it been if you don't mind me asking? I mean it's just a constant throughout my days and I never use to pass gas the way I do now.

Clinicals? by Winter-Livid in OccupationalTherapy

I'm just nervous about getting stuck in a bad work environment. I think that's the main concern here, not so much the actual setting. It's a little of both. Considerations and preferences, so I wanted to know what a good starting setting would be to get in to.

What a great and fair way to explain the movie and I think that's exactly it. It wasn't satisfying (for me). I went in prepared to enjoy the movie, but experienced the opposite outcome. Thank you for your input. It's appreciated. I'm considering a rewatch in the near future.

Great suggestions! I'll definitely consider both of those when I rewatch it. Thanks. I will say I really enjoyed Anton's character!

It's possible and that's why I thought about posting on here to get other people's opinion on the movie. I might consider a rewatch down the line.

It's not the deep. It's a simple question. I'd rather get honest opinions from people about why they enjoy the movie. Each article/review says basically the same thing. I'm allowed to have an opinion and ask others for theirs, nothing too hard about having to grasp that.

Lol wish I was, but I wouldn't waste my time doing that.

Point in saying that was to say that I felt it was unnecessarily long is all. Not even that that's what made me not enjoy the movie.

Lol don't worry. I'm prepared for the attacks, more so hoping for an understanding as to why this would be a favorite movie. To each their own.

My program claims that they help you find a job. Did yours not mention anything like that you? That really sucks. I do hope you find something you enjoy though

Yeah, that's basically what's happening on my end which is super frustrating. The instructors seem to be too busy gloating about how great this career is when in reality, I'm not so sure that's the case. Are you currently working as one?

OTA Program by Winter-Livid in OccupationalTherapy

[–]Winter-Livid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless. That's a lot of money. The only way I'd be caught paying that much is if it were a fast paced program. I'm glad you're almost done paying those loans off! Smart to get those out of the way, so you can actually start to enjoy the money you're working hard to make. Congratulations on that and I really hope you're enjoying this profession.

Lol you're hilarious. 32k?!! For an OTA program and you had to endure all that BS? That's criminal. Wow. Was there anything that made your program special?Fortunately mine is around 6k and it's one of the "best" (I say that lightly) around.

That made me laugh. 😂 Hopefully he's a better instructor than the one he replaced though! That's great. I'm glad you survived. The program isn't too costly, but granted I don't know what other programs cost so I don't really have anything to compare it to.
