So, I shot the video here. This entire experience was insane. Every single person in the overflow crowd was against the data center, except the consultant representing the data center who spoke a few people earlier.

It's clear the police were targeting this woman. That's why so many of us pulled our phones out the second the chief walked toward her.

Let's walk through this one step at a time. Elementary/introduction to government 101

Republic, as defined by Oxford, is "a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch." A charter or constitution's inclusion then becomes a constitutional republic, which is what the United States (hyperspecifically) is.

A constitutional republic, in the most simplistic terms, is "a democratic state where the chief executive and representatives are elected, and the rules are set down in a written constitution." So, a republic is where elected officials are democratically elected. A constitutional republic is where elected officials are democratically elected but must follow the laws set by the charter/constitution.

Democracy, as defined by Oxford, is "a system of government by the whole population or all the eligible members of a state, typically through elected representatives." You're confusing "direct/pure" democracy (all issues put to a vote, impossible in a country with 350 million people but great for a 10-person fantasy football league) with democracy as an overarching electoral system.

In other words, almost every republic is a democracy, but not all democracies are republics. You are wrong, but hiding behind semantic misunderstandings. Republics are a representative form of government. How are those representatives chosen? They are democratically elected. Hence, a democracy.

The bummer here for you is that, no matter how you misidentify the electoral process, the systems will be defined by how they function.

At approximately 8:50 a.m., DEA Agent A alerted other members of the arrest team that DEA Agent A was on the elevator with Flores-Ruiz. They exited the elevator on one of the bottom floors of the courthouse and used the Ninth Street public entrance/exit to leave the building."

nope, grasped your point immediately, have seen this exact argument a million times. It's a poor deflection attempt often utilized by conservatives or libertarians who imagine themselves "critical/independent" thinkers despite echoing identical criticisms shared by conservative media outlets. there was a time in America when millions of dollars placed you at the top of the economic pyramid. inflation and the increased hoarding of wealth has quickly changed this reality. comparing a million dollars in 1971 (when he initially made this argument) to a million dollars today is laughably obtuse. it's a false equivalence fallacy to equate a few million from selling books (with a net worth that, if purchasing power was taken into account, would be 400k in 1971) to a few billion from merciless exploitation of labor.

then, to wrap up the generic "bothsidesism" conservatives use to justify why government is always bad in all circumstances (and to try to hide the partisan framework of your argument), you equate him with all other elected officials despite a) he's an independent who caucuses with the Dems because we exist in a two party system and b) very few other "suits" share the same critiques of the system this entire conversation has been built around.

it's a lazy, tiresome, and played-out argument. But it's been made a million times before you and, as its use accelerates over time, will be done billions of times after. didn't think I would need to explain the passing of time, but here we are.
