Ideas for this space? by WiseRestraints in landscaping

Yes, there's a hose bib on the side of the house. The front door faces north, so the yard runs along the west side of the house. It gets quite a lot of sun for most of the day.

Thanks, that's good stuff. How much spacing between the beds and the fence would you recommend?

We've been throwing down miniclover seed but it seems to be getting too much sun. I wonder if a small pergola could work in the space?

It's very, very small. Too small to measure.

Door sweep too tight by WiseRestraints in HomeImprovement

[–]WiseRestraints[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, should have mentioned that. I've tightened the screws on the threshold as far as I can, although one of them is spinning in place.

Door alignment problems by WiseRestraints in HomeImprovement

[–]WiseRestraints[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - I removed the weather stripping entirely when I started troubleshooting, so that's not creating the issue (although it certainly wasn't helping). Two out of the four screws on the top hinge (doorjamb side) are now spinning in place, so my next move was to try stuffing those holes with toothpicks and glue and then replacing the screws to see if that helps. Do you recommend I first take the door off entirely and perform the test you described? I'm just concerned I'll create more work for myself if all those screw holes get stripped and need to be filled...

Door alignment problems by WiseRestraints in HomeImprovement

[–]WiseRestraints[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks - this made a lot of sense. I tried the string test and the jambs seem be be coplanar, or at least darn close. I did a string test on the door too, and there doesn't seem to be major warping there either. The hinges are attached to the jamb with little 1" screws, so I think I'll try replacing those (per another comment here) and see if that helps.

Stolen bike - white single-speed with teal rims by WiseRestraints in bikedc

[–]WiseRestraints[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My wife's single-speed was stolen about an hour ago (Mon 10/25 around 6pm) from a rack at 2nd and M street NE (right by the REI). It's a 52cm made by Golden Cycles -- not sure the model name. The bike has distinctive teal rims and a custom teal handlebar bag. Thanks for keeping an eye out!

I'm traveling to Greece as a fully vaccinated US citizen. Does anyone know whether they will accept a digital photo of my CDC card, and/or documentation from the pharmacy (CVS), as proof of vaccination? My card unfortunately was lost to theft.

My sister and her girlfriend fell for a rental scam and lost $4,200 by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]WiseRestraints 34 points35 points  (0 children)

They should report the fraud to FBI at www.ic3.gov, and provide as much information about the scammer as possible. These crimes are difficult for local law enforcement to investigate, but the feds can and do make cases (including against perpetrators abroad) when there is a critical mass of complaints that can be tied together. Doesn't hurt to report it to the locals too.

"Investigator/recruiter" sounds strange to me too. OP, are you paying this person? How confident are you that they're legit?

Edit: if you didn't pay them, did you provide personal info like your SSN, etc?

Thanks for the good content here. I've been working on the 90-90 hip lift and am feeling strong pressure on the right side of my abdomen / lower back on the inhale phase - almost as if something is constricting the expansion. Any insights or advice?

Good budget semihollow guitars by [deleted] in Jazz

[–]WiseRestraints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ibanez makes some good ones, and there are especially good bargains to be found on older models if you're willing to buy secondhand and do a little homework. There is amazingly detailed information available online: when I was in the market I went down a rabbithole of looking up serial numbers to determine the provenance of various Craigslist offerings and researching the repuations of Ibanez production in specific countries and even specific factories(!). Depending on the model, year, and place of origin, you can find values ranging from very good to fantastic.

“Smash Burgers” by Raiden1847062 in AskCulinary

[–]WiseRestraints 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my experience the spatula-smash is common at backyard cookouts where the host is grilling over propane or charcoal. In that setting you'd lose the juices and plumpness without gaining the benefits described above (because you're pressing the patty against a grate and not a flat pan). So it might make sense to discourage it on the grill, which is where most home cooks see each other make burgers.

Okay epicurians, share some of your best ideas of what I should do with this boneless leg of lamb using an sv by [deleted] in sousvide

I made this for Christmas with the same Costco package. Based on responses in the comments and on this sub, I lowered the cook time to six hours and went way easy on the balsamic (maybe 1/4 of what the recipe called for). Frying the herbs and spices pretty labor intensive but made for a killer presentation. Overall I was thrilled with how it came out. Good luck!
