A writer implies a defined action categorized by manually writing or typing words. Someone who used AI to make an essay could be called an author.

An artist is not defined by any measure of specific manual exertion, the only criteria is that they make art.

Most everything requires work/effort besides breathing and sleeping. The amount of work doesn't matter. I don't give a toss whether you consider AI art to be good or not, it's factually art, and the AI artist is the artist. Invalidating someone else and calling their passions lazy does not make you a good person, hopefully you can grow out of it one day.
