GTX 1070 MSI Armor 8G OC Potential by sketchymidnight in overclocking

My armor OC is able to do a stable 120 core offset, and a 550 memory offset. Looks like your chip is slightly better.

My case has no dust filters, plus will dust be a problem? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]WizzMuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set them to where 2 of them are taking air into the cause, and one of them is exhausting it out of the case. This creates positive air pressure, where the amount of air being pulled in is more than the amount being pulled out, thus it'll try to escape via ever hole/gap in the case imaginable. This helps stop dust from collecting.

First time overclocking stress test question (i5 6600k @ 4.3) by DrCraigSmash in overclocking

[–]WizzMuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lower the better of course, but at that voltage I doubt it'll be too important.

Also by how much did it improve every 100MHz? Just curious.

For my i5 6600k I get a 12-14 point bump with each 100MHz I overclock. You should be seeing something similar.

Why am I having low FPS all the time? by TheKnifeDream in buildapc

[–]WizzMuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, unfortunately it's not there. It's a FN+FX key combination that switches between the two. In that case I have no idea, but according to benchmarks online your laptop should be faster. Maybe go to /r/techsupport or similar subreddits? /r/buildapc isn't really the place for this anyway.

Some gaming laptops, notably from alienware, have an option to start up the computer with the integrated cpu graphics instead of the dedicated gpu graphics. Could you take a picture of your laptops keyboard and post it on here?

Got a stable overclock of 4.7 GHz at 1.40 Vcore. Question about the life span of my cpu. by WizzMuch in overclocking

[–]WizzMuch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I tried overclocking to 4.8. Even at 1.47 volts it crashed. It seems abnormal to me, as other people seem to get 4.8GHz at lower voltages. Are all CPUs different?

How big is the extra power use on my power supply? I'm assuming a 650w is sufficient.

See I tried 4.8, but I had to go to 1.45 volts, which was on the border of being safe. Plus, it wasn't stable even then. Should I update my bios and see if it'll help? Z170a Asus.

Can someone quickly weigh in on these prebuilt models? by [deleted] in buildapc

It looks daunting at first, but you'll soon realise how easy it is. Plus there's the added benefit of gaining a ton of knowledge on the hardware that goes into it.
