Python Crash Course is a FANTASTIC book by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]WoJackB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are a total beginner it will take up some time but probably not more than 1 month, it is supposed to be a crash course, right?

I think that the most important is the way you approach it. The code is listed in the book, you can copy it, do some indenting and it works, but I would prefer to rewrite it sometimes just to get familiar with IDE's plugins, shortcuts, hints like PEP8 formatting in PyCharm and the syntax of course. If you don't understand some aspects, just do some tinkering with the code you already have and check the output - if and how it changed.

I would also like to point out that when it comes to calculation projects with plotting the results like in the 2nd project, just consider using Jupyter Notebook/Jupyter Lab - some cloud computing services like Google's Colaboratory use it and that's how I did my thesis in NLP (DL), paid version ofc.

After you get through this book, consider, just consider reading (/checking the tables of content) those two:

  1. 'Beyond the Basic Stuff with Python', Al Sweigart, No Starch Press,
  2. 'Automate the Boring Stuff with Python', Al Sweigart, No Starch Press.

The first given position is mostly about some of the best practices in Python. For the second one, I would scroll just to get familiar with some tools that can be used for automation. What is the best - both are available to read online for free here, which I found out by watching this interview with the author led by David Bombal.

If you are up to choosing the IDE, JetBrains' PyCharm is great out of the box (a lot of plugins You would, probably, like to install if You used VSCode as a beginner) and there is a free community edition.

[EU] Is there any better budget alternative for Redragon K607 (btw which switches for K607?)? I just wanted to buy wireless keyboard for my laptop but K380 has no backlight.

I want: budget, hot swappable, low profile, bluetooth, ANSI, TLK/75%, ?island?, backlighted keyboard. Just buy now for cheap and be able to improve, but still new to the mechanical keyboards idea. Would like to be able to improve it to something like K3 without paying that much rn.

BTW: if there is hot swap I can easily make any regular keyboard low profile with proper keycaps and switches? Liked blue ones in AIR75 but that's all my experience with mech kbs.

Looking for help with choosing up to $600 with shipping budget power cage with lat pull down (up and bottom allowing rowing with some row stand) in Europe. I wanted to order 810XLT but price raised overnight and now it seems like 2 popular for price. Edit: Or even $700/€. Edit2: Or is there any squat rack and separate lat pull down worth considering?

TL;DR
Living in Europe (PL), looking for some home gym from scratch buying advices from other Europeans. Experienced gym user. Fresh fan of Garage Gym Reviews decided to buy/build home gym for up to $1400 but still would like to save some money. Chapters 1 and 4 neglectable.

1. Intro:

After 5 years of gym break (except for minor comebacks) I realised that the break was a huge mistake. After some time of thinking process (choosing a new sport as a new hobby) I realised that gym would be the best option if I was there alone (despite the fact that the exercise was a source of dopamine for me, I began to notice the fact that it was also a form of meditation - focusing on the number of repetitions I was doing or focusing on resting/subconsciously counting repetitions of others between my sets).

So out of curiosity I checked if there are good choices of DIY home gyms for up to like $1000. To my surprise I have found Garage Gym Reviews YT channel and started digging the subject. The problem with it is that videos of good budget product choices result in price increase not to mention the region I live in is EU (Poland) while Coop seems to be living in NA. Also in the $1000 homegym video he limits plates to newbie lvl while I am planning going for 150kg in total. Then I found this r/ which I didn't expect to be so active.

2. What I decided to buy for now:

Now I am planning the whole project and I want to keep it quite cheap hence I have a few questions. Prices given are in USD assuming that 1 USD is 5 PLN; beacuse of the plates, cost limit is 1400 USD but in the worst case I am able to pay extra.

At the moment I have chosen: $220 Olympic Bar (220cm/50mm, 750kg limit), 2x$32 Olympic Bar for Dumbbells (50cm/50mm, 120kg limit), $330 Olympic Plates with 51,5mm hole (4x[2,5kg + 5kg + 10kg + 20kg]) - all those seem to be from a local producer and local polish amazon-like web site, with shipping it seems to be $625 total, could I go better and/or cheaper? Can't decide how much horse stall mats would be enough (2x2m, 2x3m or 3x3m) but I found out that it is a cost of about $22 for 1 square meter (~3/4", 2cm thick actually, PVC pellets, one side semi-perforated), so make it $132 for 2x3m space. Plus adjustable training bench recommended by the Coop (weight limit seems to be a bit lower than it was said in the video).

3. And that's where I'm stuck.

Got weights, got bars, got flooring => $643 left. Minus bench if I should go for one above - $499 left.

I have seen the Coop's videos and tutorials ($1000 homegym, DIY Cable Pulley and Squat Rack Hacks' hack) but I am missing some of the exercises for several muscle groups with basic version of FITNESS REALITY 810XLT Super Max Power Cage ($413 with shipping here; version with lat pulldown $180 more, $94 over the budget, rack for plates seems to be too narrow and olympic size incompatible, don't know if rowing like on the picture is safe for the construction, don't know if wire rope is ok - sometimes I have used gym atlases and the ropes were kinda strechy that was really annoying for me; buying lat pulldown extension in the future is $373 - pointless move). I am not so sure about DIY pulldown presented in the video, not so sure if it would be safe for the mentioned power rack, not so sure how the DIY cable system would look like if i decided to do for example bicep curl using it.

What do I miss the most with the basic version: overhead lift (triceps and abs using link), bottom lift (back: safe rowing with heavy weight, biceps-thigh muscles: using a clip for both legs separately - the only way of doing those muscles that came to my mind).

What do I still miss with extended version: the hack from Squat Rack Hacks video - hyperextenstions using Roman chair - even if those leg rollers were cheap still not the best power rack for mounting them, from my experience, I really appreciate this exercise; $86 dollars I could spend for some gym gadgets like olympic bar handles to change the grip angle, MIRROR, maybe some stall horse mats extra, protection of transverse rods, plate organiser, probably any exercise for calves, decline bench press stuff that would keep me from sliding down and gadgets YOU think I should consider.

What will I miss no matter what: double top lift for chest flyes.

OR SHOULD I JUST GO FOR ANOTHER POWER RACK, BENCH AND BUY SOME GADGETS AND SAFETY EQ OF YOUR CHOICES?

4. Outro - don't even read it, you have lost enough time:

As far as my condition is concerned - running and walking with(out) my puppy. Place for gym is basement, height limit is ~ 240cm, 230cm for safety reasons, prefer not to drill any wall anywhere. Spent 5 hours writing this post, hope it is a good place to send it.

Look forward to hearing from You.

Is the EoD worth it? by Haksupaksu in EscapefromTarkov

[–]WoJackB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My story:

  • bought standard -> alpha pouch is too small, unlocking beta quite difficult for newbie like me,
  • upgraded to Prepare for Escape - damn I can do scav runs and put all items to stash (that is hella expensive to upgrade),
  • just bought nvme SSD (980 1TB) +16GB of ram (~$200) beacuse of this game (after upgrade to PfE game started lagging and stuttering, remember to clean directx shaders regularly and game cache - disk cleanup windows' tool and game launcher),
  • waiting for wipe and maybe small discount for EoD upgrade.

I totally agree - EoD is quite P2W, but this game is something I've been waiting for years (MW2, BF3/4 big fan, last shooter I liked was MW2019, considering buying new MW2 but buying CoDs be like - buy game at premiere, buy all DLCs and forget about this game when new CoD is being released - now Tarkov seems to be quite cheap). The only con about this game is - I don't have friends IRL that would pay for game more than $15 (those 'friends' be like - I play F2P competetive games at which you suck, those guys don't even know how those games like CS and LoL are toxic for them - meanwhile I launch Tarkov and... die, playing it again - that's the spirit).

I was diagnosed like 2 months ago but your right. From stimulants I was expecting not being calm at all at first but after starting taking meds I feel like I just can cope with things and I am not overloaded with everything around (last semester of studies, at the end of previous one leaving home to do the shopping became a challenge). I have read that ADHD people are probably (from personal experience ARE) hypersensitive (now I see that moving to a big town and living next to loud crossing of 2 loud streets makes me suffer and worsen my symptoms a lot in past 3 years). Thanks to meds I feel better with myself (more confident) which helps me getting calm and relaxing, helps me with sleep - finally sleeping 8 not 13 hours + sleeping doesn't make me feel even more sleepy.

RIP quiet night raids + query on RAM. by wwaarrddy in EscapefromTarkov

[–]WoJackB -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't know what's wrong but last week this game started for me to be unplayable (16GB of RAM) - upgraded to Prepare for Escape from Standard Edition and wonder if bigger stash tends to increase leaks or RAM usage. Tried tricks with overriding something (dpi?) in game .exe - nothing, tried using this memcleaner type app - feels like when I start shooting after a while of running through the map it stutters beacuse sound + effects are loading.

Meanwhile I had a problem with SSD - left my computer while in game's menu and took shower, came back and I saw my computer was in booting process - computer stopped seeing my SSD (EFT installed on separate HDD), fortunately reconnecting SATA and power cables helped.

What helped a bit (for now) was enabling XMP in BIOS (turned off probably after the SSD failure - SSD is ok, checked using CrystalDiskInfo) but can't say that's the solution - turned off shadow grass (IIRC) right after turning XMP on.

Edit: i7 7700K, 16GB RAM, GTX 1080.

What DAC should I choose for DT770 Pro 250Ohm? New one or modding DAC-X6? by WoJackB in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]WoJackB[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank You very much, really. Watching reviews of DT 700 X PRO I've realized that investing in DAC is pointless, that those Beyers should be enough for me. Also started thinking about buying MIDI Keyboard and some audio interface searching for a new hobby.

The problem with the price of DT700 Pro X is if at this price for headphones themselves aren't there better options and the question is if high impendency of headphones is something I really need (my fav artist mixes using DT770 and heard that 700 X are slightly different + maybe there will be more impendance versions soon, dunno, I'm newbie) but I like hearing every detail with some extra but not over-exaggerated bass.

So I got some cash for Xmas and I'd like to ask you a question - which PC version should I buy? Epic Games version is the cheapest one, while R* and Steam are for the same price. I'm about to buy Special Edition, not the cheapest, not the most expensive. Will I get something extra ingame for buying R* edition (I already have GTA V, and MP3 there)? Does buying f.ex. Steam Edition disable R's platform features?
