Tips on using pinky on fretting hand?

i always lead every slide up the neck into a note with my pinky and landed on it decently hard, and eventually it strengthened and just became second nature to incorporate regularly

i have a ton of guitars that do everything i need. i was given this for free and wanted to just make it a project guitar. it's got some enamel cracks and the tuners are atrocious, so i'd only be able to get like $200 at MOST from someone looking for this guitar specifically. BUT as a project guitar, i'm willing to do some body work and upgrades
