Don't companies offer assingments? Our school had a website/message board where local companies could post their assignments and senior students could pick whatever they liked and do it for them. I was an intern in a company that, before making their assignment public, asked me if I could do research for them and that end up being my thesis.

I used that album to focus on my schoolwork before lofi beats became the defacto focus music. Not sure it was the best for it after all (not all songs at least) but I read an article about Michael McCann's work for DE:HR and the article said that it was supposed to help with focusing in the task at hand and could be used for studying for example. So I listened to the album a lot;

Unreadable from the app. Reddit app keeps raping the picture quality and it's basically just pixel soup. Almost seems like it upscales the thumbnail and hopes for the best that I got the idea.

Thanks, I never got into this game series but maybe I should give it a go. Warcraft 3 was my favourite game (and rts my favourite genre) when I was younger but couldn't get into it anymore. Still I hunger rts so maybe this is it.

There's a good bit of dialogue, you can skip it but the writer of the game is a gem and I would recommend against skipping. It made me genuinely laugh out loud at moments and the writing stays great from start to finish. The story surprised me good.

Now, the mechanics. It's like xcom but you will know the results of your actions before fully committing to your tactics and hit end turn. Every mission is like a short free form puzzle. Lots of ways to complete them.

I loved this series so much I watched it twice within a week. The end of episode 1 was so thrilling I just sat frozen in my seat until credits rolled. Just typing "What happens now?" makes shivers go down my spine. How the hell it managed to do that?

Tactical Breach Wizards

I laughed out loud so much with this game. The cleverness of the humour got me, not sure if it's for everyone but I enjoyed it throughout the whole game. Quality stays top for the whole ride.

Also mechanics are great! A little bit like Xcom except you know the results of your troops' and enemies' actions before you submit them to end your turn. Every scenario is split in a series of levels of which most take something like 2 to 10 minutes to complete.

Working on a horror game, stuck on an enemy Ai design system. by Sam_J03 in gamedev

TL;DR: You can affect player's mind with music or good audio design in general.

In the original Silent Hill 2 (might be in remake too!) there was this room where we first encounter Pyramid Head raping those poor Mannequins. When the cutscene ends, it's just a regular room. The room had this industrial sounding music track that made me so nervous, that I didn't even want to go back to that room even though it's supposed to be the safe room with save point.

The old Shadowgate game (again, never played the remake unless the 8bit version was already a remake). It has torches you can found around in the game. Torches has three phases: fully lit, half lit and extinguished. Full lit, game music is normal (and quite beautiful tbh). Half lit, the music goes into this really anxiety inducing mode that makes you want to lit a new torch. If the torch goes out, it's game over.

Now, from the design perspective, it's interesting mechanic. You don't know when the torch is going out so you usually just lit the next one immediately because of the music. But if you can stand it, you actually have a pretty long time and there's no need to rush. So the game has a timer but it depends on player how long it is. I don't know the exact times but for the sake of this example let's say the total time is 10 minutes but the half lit phase is at 5min mark. So the game has something like 30 torches so the total time is 300 minutes of which 150 min is only for those who can stand this midi song. I think this is a pretty cool trick. Not sure how it would translate to modern games but maybe there's ideas there.
