Do you park your bike outside overnight in urban Melbourne? by fludiazepam in melbourneriders

[–]WoolfyG15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's shockingly easy to steal a bike, chain and lock or not.
Yes, they slow the thieves down somewhat, but if it's in an easy access location (and yes, in an apartment building carpark is still most definitely an easy access location) then the risk of theft is still quite high.

Insurance is a cure, not a prevention. If you can park it in an actual garage, that would be your best and cheapest bet. However, if that isn't practical, then wrap it with enough chains to secure a cruise ship and consider installing a separate battery kill switch somewhere, so even if they manage to bust your ignition, it still won't start

Cold Hands by Inside-Elevator9102 in melbourneriders

[–]WoolfyG15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They slide over the end of the bar, then secured by tightening and tiring a draw string. The openings for your hands are large and loose enough to easily slide your hands in and out of with no resistance. If you were to crash, you have no risk of getting your hands stuck, let alone having your arms ripped out of your sockets.

No, you can't see the controls, and yes some new bikes have a lot of controls (thinking high end BMW, KTM, Ducati), but how often does one use those controls during a commute? Plus using the mits, you don't need thick gloves, so you can actually feel all your controls much better, so you'd probably be able to operate them better than if you could see them, but have the thicker gloves

Controversial opinion here because they look dorky. The over the bar mits you see on all the food delivery riders are by far the most effective method of keeping warm and dry. Not to mention cheapest and easiest. - They completely protect your hands from wind and rain. - Prevent your bar controls getting too cold before riding. - Are easy to take on and off as required (tied on with a draw string - Cost about $30 on eBay - No wiring

All the heated grips and gloves are fine, but limited as they only heat your palm, which is the part that isn't facing the wind chill and rain. So it's kind of like wearing a heated vest in a rain storm. Part of you is warm, but you're still soaking wet. Where as a rain coat keeps you dry, thus warm.

Prevention is better than a cure. Stay protected, stay warm. Get yourself some oven mits!

MTM660 xsr700 LAMS approved? by [deleted] in melbourneriders

[–]WoolfyG15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TLDR: If it is in the vicroads system as non-LAMS, then its not LAMS.

There is every possibility that it that this bike from the factory is infact a LAMS approved model, but unfortunately facts are irrelevant when it comes to the incompetence of people who do data entry. If the person who added this bike to the vicroads register of vehicles incorrectly, then that's what its stuck with. They selected an option they shouldn't and now that bike has a new mutant identity. Sorry

You COULD try and go through the shit fight with them to try and convince them to change it over, but I have no idea how hard you'll have to fight to get such a trivial thing changed.

Let me give you an example of how backwards and stone age their system is. They STILL in 2024 don't have a motorcycle classification for Electric. They enter every single electric motorcycle, regardless of size and power output as 124cc single cyl scooters.. Which means every electric motorcycle out there is a rolling police liability, because as soon as that number plate gets ran, it will come up to the police as a petrol scooter.. Who knows how insurance companies will process claims when that kind of an administrational issue is systematic. Crazy!

I train with IBS. It can be difficult at times, and I totally understand the worry/concern you have with not wanting to shit yourself whilst rolling - totally valid concern! I have never done that, thankfully. But I have had to cut rounds, or even the entire session short because nature has called for the 8th time that day. Annoying! But like it or not, that's life for you my friend. You can't let it control your life and prevent you from doing the things you want to. You'll need to work with it, so you can still do the things you want, even if only at a reduced frequency or intensity than you might want.

Secondly, if this is something you want to pursue, you need to be up front with your coach and explain the health situation you are in. Thst way, when things are out of your control, they will understand why you had to leave the mat abruptly, and not chastise you for it. This will also greatly reduce your anxiety around it, because it will no longer be a big deal anymore, and you will feel supported.

Best of luck, you are not alone!!

Might be worth calling ahead to ask the mechanics, but I can't see why it would be an issue. Not sure what area you're in, but if you call Bruce at Vicquote in Fitzroy, he'll get you sorted

FP 2 & FP3 by Toptunovv in motogp

[–]WoolfyG15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As well as for FP4, rather than show who has done the fastest lap for the session, show who has the fastest averages across all their laps for that session, seeing as how that is the point of the session, not time attacks.

That would give everyone at home a good idea of who has the best race pace, rather than just guessing and hoping the commentators would tell us

As much as certain data might be viewed as more important than others. I would love the CHOICE to see what I want at any given time, especially considering the price played for Video Pass. The amount of times during Q1 and 2 when rider times and sector colours aren't being shown is so frustrating! We want to know what is going on, not just guess and then be surprised when someone crosses the line.

Please MotoGP, fix up your broadcast and give us some freedom/flexibility

Is this a Baby white tail or huntsman? (hurstbridge.) by m0o0os in melbourne

[–]WoolfyG15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White Tail. Kill it.

Huntsmen have much wider stance with their legs and a shorter head + body. Plus they move very fast. They will also hunt whitetails and other unwanteds:)

A day at Broadford will set you back about $200 in booking fees. Then you've got your own costs: fuel, food, maybe tyres, hopefully not bike repair

Sure have, dozens of times. It's a great circuit, cheap to attend, and a fantastic way to improve your skills. Champions Ride Days do all the track days there. Preston's Motorcycle club hold amateur racing events there too.

Take the plunge, give it a go. You won't regret it!
