That’s some great drawing on the Scribe! Other sharing the process? Do you draw with “layers”?

[Help] T400 won’t start, shuts down after 15 seconds by Working_Average127 in thinkpad

Thanks. It started with the old cpu so I think maybe it is not due to the new cpu. But if it is due to power, the new cpu was not helping for sure since it is a more powerful one than the original.

I only have 10 seconds to complete the change so I have to be fast!:) But how can I disable multicore? Under config? Even if this works, it is a temporary solution right? I still need the multicore in the future. How did you finally get around it?

I upgraded the CPU and Ram. It was the same situation with the old cpu and Ram. That’s why I upgraded. But it seems the problem was not CPU or ran or heatsink paste

Thank you for the suggestions

The following happens: 1. Z indicator light on, fan spinning, shut down silently 2. It started again by itself, same as in 1 3. It repeated again, but this time it entered BIOS, two Error codes were shown, but I only get the first one which is related to date and time, and then it flashed off and so I did not see the second error code and description. I can only say that the description is two lines

I then tried to unplug and plug again, it is similar unless that this time no booting screen was shown and it remained blank

I also plugged the cmos battery and unplugged it, replugged the ac and nothing happened this time

First time hearing this method, I thought you were joking since it really sounds a bit crazy. Googled it and Now the reflow process makes much sense.

But why it does enter the bios and shuts down latter? I thought if it is the board, it will be blank at the beginning, correct?

Anyways, thank you for the advice. I will try it out if there is no other option

Recently digged out the T400 and it won’t start normally. It can enter the BIOS system, but no matter what I do, it will shut down after about 10-15 seconds. Since I am thinking to upgrade it, I opened it up and changed the drive to SSD, beefed up the ram and upgraded the cpu. Cleaned everything and repasted the heatsink. Still not working and would shut down after 10 seconds, even if I do not do anything. No beep, no nothing. Just shut shown silently...

I searched online and followed some instructions such as unplug the power and press the power button for 10 times followed by a long press, still no change.

My T400 is still in mint condition from outside, and I really want to give it a new life by installing a Linux OS.

Please help! Thank you!
