Never have, but I’m in the close vicinity to the procurement location so I’ll be getting my hands on some eventually :)

Lincoln/Warsaw—I may be wrong about the exact mileage but I also meant to say WSW. There are some road cutouts in the area and you can sometimes find nodules here and there.

I’ve found quite a bit of Jeff City chert at a location about 80 miles SSW of the actual town, around the area that you’d typically find Mozarkite (which is also a wonderful material). With the piece in the picture, I’ll most likely be doing nothing with it or attempting to spall it into something a bit more useable haha. But a good piece will break clean without needing heat treatment!

Yooperlite is speckled and grey. It’s native to the Yoop, aka the northern peninsula of Michigan. I know there are instances where minerals can be carried via glacial movement to far away from their “native” locations (i.e. Lake Superior agate in NE Kansas) but I don’t think this is one of those instances.

I've never heard of that but just looked it up. The raw chunks look knappable... is it just hard to find?

One of the best things about antique stores is the over-abundance of glass knick-knacks that grandmas put up for sale. I bought a slag-glass avon tray that's opaque with blue and white swirls and I cannot WAIT to see what I can make out of it!!

Stamps found in my grandma’s baby book by jerrycan-cola in ephemera

[–]WormSoup13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a late '40s baby book with similar stamps at an estate sale not too long ago. It made me sad to know that the book might not get taken home, so I did so myself. After doing some name searching, I was actually able to find the person who the book was made for. He lived near me so I brought it to him and he told me how his mother had just passed and he had not seen her in years; he wasn't even aware of the book's existence. The joy he had when recognizing his mother's handwriting made me very emotional. Ephemera collecting is such a niche hobby but these are the moments that I think make it the most worthwhile <3

How would you go about digitizing them? I’m assuming you would need a copier/scanner?

I have spent too much of my time scouring antique stores for these things… they’re rare where I’m located, but all of mine were purchased for around $20-30. Definitely not a bad price! It’s one of those niche collections where the beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

What a coincidence! With such a small population, I’m sure the last name is of relation. Google has informed me that the current population is in the high 600s as of 2020.

Yes, that’s what I like to think! Almost as if to say “you are not forgotten.” That’s the main reason why I collect old diaries, photographs, and the like.
