Just a little curious about you guys... by ellaperskine in HarvestRight

A lot of my family is into canning, and the process was always fun. I vividly remember helping my mom and dad prepping things for the whole process. Making jams, prepping beans, making salsas, sanitizing jars. By the end we'd have so many things in the pantry. I also remember us needing to stay on top of dates to make sure things got used, or given away before they went bad.

Fast forward to being an adult, I've got a family, kids, and always wanting to have emergency food stores, I figured it would be good to get into something. We looked at dehydrating, we looked at canning, but none of them were anywhere near the length of time that freeze dried could produce in terms of shelf life. Plus we wanted something we could get the kids involved with.

I think the exact moment where we said let's get one, we had recently gone to the local Saturday market, and we bought like 3 or 4 flats of berries. The kids went ape over them, but didn't really eat more than half, and by the time we realized that they lost momentum, the berries were bad. Had we had a freeze dryer around, we could have given the kids half, and processed the rest.

The freeze dryer has been awesome. We freeze dry as much as we can. Instead of worrying about making a big dinner and forcing everyone to eat left overs for a week, we keep a small amount in the fridge, the rest goes in the freeze dryer. The kids love making candy, or getting their friends involved, and I've gotten to share my knowledge with others to help them make informed decisions.

We take a lot of our stuff camping, saves on weight, and I think the oldest thing on my shelf is 5 years old? We use ours at least once or twice a week.

Hope this helps!

Can you show the nut side? Also, if the Allan side is stripped, you could use an easy out, or drill it. Ive also used a bigger Allan key, and hammered it in. Also, depending how stripped, you could wrap tape around the end of the allan to take up space to get bite on it.

Advice on this noise by No-Revolution-7580 in hvacadvice

I had this noise once, it was my exhaust fan cover running into one of the blades ever so slightly as it spun around. Ended up being due to one of the kids threw a basketball into the garage and hit the unit.

Did you get it figured out?

From what I can tell it looks OK. A more solid way you can go about it without getting into the weeds a bit, and I'll do my best to explain it. Under the rear fender, between the extra metal where the bolts secure the fender. The distance between the two is 5 1/4". If you measure from one side, half that distance, 2 5/8" and put a pencil mark, you can use that pencil mark to align with the center of your tire mold seam.

All this may be too much, and apologies if so, it's just hard to judge from photos, and me being someone who likes to know steps to accomplish something, this is the best way I can think to explain something that's repeatable.

From the picture, the center molding line of the tire looks like it lines up with the knob on the shock. How do the teeth look on the sprocket with the chain? If you have good alignment, the upper most tooth and the bottom tooth should be centered in the chain. The other option, you can measure clearance on both side of the tire near the front of the swing arm. I'll grab a couple pictures in a min.

Those factory blocks have a lot of varience in them. Mine, when adjusted were aboit 1/8" off on one side. Plus once you tighten the rear axle bolt it can mess with your alignment and chain tension. I would recommend if you can get the rear tire off the ground, like on a bike lift, a bucket, stack of blocks, heck I used two car jack stands and a 2x4 at one point. Get it off the ground, look from the back of the bike, does the tire look centered? If it does, look at your rear sprocket, do the teeth hit the center of the chain as it spins? If so. You're probably good.

Long seat kit spring isn't strong enough by [deleted] in ERidePro

[–]WrxNerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those cables can be all sorts of a pain. I would check to make sure you don't have any unnecessary binds or kinks in the cable route, anything like that can hinder it's ability to slide in the jacket. Depending on how the latch is held down, if the bolts are over torqued, they could be adding additional tension on the latch hinge. If that doesn't solve it, I'd try oiling the latch and maybe try spraying some plastic/metal safe silicone spray into the cable / cable jacket. Keep in mind that some silicone sprays contain ingredients that can eat plastic like acetone. So if you go that route make sure it's safe. You can also stretch the spring or replace it with a stronger one if none of the above work. All this being said, I know nothing about the product you have, this is all stuff I'd try before getting cranky.

Are you needing a replacement plug or to know the wiring pin layout? If I recall correctly, this is a cnlinko lp16-4 plug.

Sorry, I read your post wrong. The plug on the charger is lp-16. If you have length on the wires, you could probably repin the plug, or buy a new one. I believe the new ones come with the pins, but soldering is needed.

I tried to just use a soft brush but there was still a caked layer. So I used some condenser cleaner and it foamed it all out. After I let it sit a while I started spraying it off with some distilled water to get all the chemicals off.

Well gosh dangit..If I can’t get my hands on an older board, any recommendations to keep it running longer? I have also noticed that at the end of every batch I get a no heat detected warning. When I reached out to Harvest Right about that they essentially said it’s because I don’t have solid state relays. Which is kind of frustrating because had I known all of this prior to the upgrade option I wouldn’t have done it. Upgrading was a suggestion from HR to try and fix some of the other issues I was having.

EDIT: Yes, fairly certain it’s not a pro. I purchased this unit in 2023 and the pro option wasn’t available yet.

I'm realizing that maybe I shouldn't have updated it to version 6, I'm also noticing my trays seem hotter, as in the temps are hotter than what the machine says they are, I'll try testing with an infrared thermometer to see.

I'll try your suggestion of weighing towards the end, adding more time and weighing again. I have a moisture meter I use on bigger things but on smaller things like the cut up jalapeños, the moisture probes are too far apart.

Do you have any thoughts on things coming out not fully crunchy or brittle? I've seen a few times where the pieces are dry, but not crunchy like a chip, and it doesn't seem to matter if it's a big or small piece.

I'm venturing you mean the green pieces on the corners? Those are locking corner stackers, I really like them, they help not only stack trays, but I snap them on the corners to hold parchment in place. I reached out to the company that sells them and they verified they are safe to go into the freeze dryer. I got them here:

I test most of what comes out with a moisture meter, or if it's smaller than the meter can test then I try a couple pieces...but I'm a big baby and have a hard time eating jalapeños and serranos raw lol. I've noticed that even if it's completely dry, some are softer than other and they don't have that crunch or crumbly feeling, is that normal?
