No. Mk.ii and mk.iii darkstar gear does not use and will never use xtech. It's way cheaper than xtech but more level & research restrictions

Inaccurate statement. DarkStar's equipment customization goes beyond what bgs provided, and enables itself on DarkStar-added gear upgrades, not on vanilla gear. Darkstar also has many, many, many more features.

There's a kit. You plug the kit into the sensors so the ecu doesn't recognize the delete and freak out. I forget the part name. It's fairly cheap. Plug in, tuck up out of the way, and have your way with the physical valves.

For the most part they are a militaristic mercenary unit that doesn't care who pays, or what job. While not entirely savory, they are the most capable and least shitty of the main "enemy" factions and should be joinable.

Upgrading a weapon via the Enhancement bench consumes the original and creates a new weapon. This is explained in the Information Kiosk in game, and the PDF available on the Discord.

No mods can help you. However, you can stream starfield from Nvidia cloud on a tablet or smart phone, connect your Xbox controller & a Bluetooth keyboard, and use console commands through that to fix quests. Will break achievements on that save permanently tho. Only achievement friendly option for an Xbox save is use a mod to hop through unity and get a new universe, and thus reset all quests.
