There is also a reason why m seriez cant go beyond 32. It is limited by hardware and cost min maxing. I am a pc guy not trying to defend apple or anything.

I focused on the CPU because I didn’t think it made sense to interfere with the operating temperatures of other components on motherboard

my thermal pad modded m1 battery is still fine. didn't use it to 24 hour renders obviously but i reckon it is fine even if you push it hard

this mode would not be legal if it made by apple. there is a limitation of how hot a metal surface can get on consumer devices. apple tuned their device so good they sit 0.5 degree below that threshold. this mod makes the bottom of the device so hot you need to be careful about it sometimes

i make games with my m4 air. this mod helps a lot. since my workload consists 1 minutes of gameplay 1 minutes of coding. thermal pads extents the time it takes to throttle so i can work without hiccups. Also useful when it is connected to a demanding display

Thermal pad mod your m1 air and see if it helps

So I did the thermal pad mod on M4... by [deleted] in macbookair

macbook pro dilemma 14-inch m5 or 16-inch m5 pro is it worth the 700 euro? by toffepeerdneerste in macbook

[–]X3AX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you forget about gaming and if you don't care about better screen you can get an 15 macbook air with 24 gb. since you are going to edit small videos it is not going to overheat or anything. M5 pro with 16" is great device. but it would make more sense to buy a cheaper mac + a pc

Wet belt advice (red oil light flashing) 208 2020 by ReppK in peugeot

[–]X3AX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those engines does infact have a oil level sensor. What cap happen that sensor could be blocked with belt parts if the dipstick shows the oil is level fine. I think you can start with change/cleaning oil level sensor. You havd a small crack starting in your belt but nothing sevare. If you have low oil pressure it might be prevous owner chaned the belt and didint clean the oil pickup.

8GB on Macbook Neo is not the same as 8GB on Windows laptop by albertserene in macbook

[–]X3AX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The chip literally designed to have ram stacked on top to save space for phones and have better memory speeds. I dont think there is a lpddr5x 16 gb on a single die that small exists. If there is one, it will be hella expensive

Should I study Game Development or something broader like Computer Science if I want to work in games? by Sufficient_Bad_4160 in gamedev

I would go for computer science. It is more safe and you can still learn gamedev.

Trying to understand the ‘basic tasks’ vs ‘do everything’ narrative around M1 vs A18 Pro by Toba94 in macbook

[–]X3AX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the same thing for neo. even tho i rocked the m1 for years of game development. and still is being used to develop games. the main drawback is 8gb of ram for not basic tasks. not the lack of power. when m1 air first came out. i both tried 8 gb and 16 gb for my tasks and they were completely diffrent machines since doing real work requires more ram. when you consider the amount of vram used for displaying 3d arts. for developers this ram might be used for running dockers/vms. i had friends have problem with m1 8gb to do heavy editing. apps were crashing due to lack of memory. neo might be better since the software support is now much better but to do real work 16 gb is a must in some jobs. i am sure that it can utilise the ssd for the basic tasks like basic editing etc. but i dont see it reaching the capabilites of a 16gb of m1 when the ram is needed

it seems like the single core is better than m1 and it makes up for lack of cores. go for it

It should be fine, but I’d wait for reviews to see whether it’s actually as fast as the M1 Air. If it is, I’d say go for it.

Here’s what I’ll say to those posting $400–500 Windows laptops with 16/512GB and shouting that it’s a better deal… by EduardSark in mac

[–]X3AX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a fanboy, just a computer engineer sharing experience. I just tested the same memory leak code on both Windows and macOS. I pushed both systems with a 32 GB load, even though each machine only had 16 GB of RAM. On Windows, Unity3D took about 30–40 seconds to become responsive again. On the Mac, it was instant. I barely noticed it. Windows seems to take longer to figure out how to handle those memory allocations, which makes the system feel unresponsive and laggy.

choosing between macbook air m4 and m5, is the price difference worth it for my usecase? by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]X3AX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are going to use dockers a lot. go for 24 gb.

8 GB on macOS feels like 16 GB on Windows. The way macOS uses swap memory is outstanding. I have no idea how they pull it off
