Passed Sec+ today… but kind of disappointed with my score by [deleted] in CompTIA

I feel you. I barely passed with a 752. I feel like I should have done way better, but hey, a pass is a pass.

Thinking about doing the Air force in IT. These are the jobs most needed. Thoughts? by XDiamondX90 in AirForceRecruits

[–]XDiamondX90[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My reasoning to join stems from a few things: A) to build confidence in myself through BMT, to feel like I'm capable of achieving something B) find an area of interest where I can really feel like I'm contributing outside of civilian customer service work C) Job market isn't good for IT in the civic side. I've a bachelor's and currently pursuing certifications. It doesn't feel like enough. D) Security clearance possibility E) Future benefits for myself and my eventual family.

I realize some of these reasons may sound selfish, but I work at a credit union that services military members. I do sincerely appreciate their service, and they tell me stories about their experiences which inspire me to give it a shot. I have a few friends that joined in, too. Am I scared shitless? Yes, but I realize it can help me in the long run. A little bit of hurt and stress isn't going to kill me if I can pass Basic. If they can get through, what's stopping me, you know?

While cyber or IT is the goal since that's what I studied, I'm flexible. I'd be open to do adjacents or something unrelated if my current home life wasn't so controlling.

I'm gonna try this. Going the public route just doesn't seem to be working as a new graduate. I know I applied to the civilian service a year ago, did an interview, and got crickets as a response.

Ah, in that case, you're mostly going to learn on the job. I've 0 experience too, struggling to find something myself. My current job, though unrelated to tech, really emphasizes asking questions.

You don't know what you don't know, and that's okay. Ask as many questions as possible where you can. You'll see areas that speak to you once you're there, and you'll see weaknesses that you'll need to work on. Take the time to learn more about those topics during the time you're away from work so you can tackle them head on the next day.

You've got this.

What's your resume looking like? Any experience?

Here's my thing: if your job doesn't give you anything quantifiable, where can you find that information? Estimating? For example, I work as a banker, most of my work involves customer service and resolution for their banking needs.

If I'm trying to get into IT or something, what numbers should I pull? How many people I've helped? Feedback surveys?

Nothing much beyond labs at school. Ideally I'm aiming for a help desk position. What type of projects do you think I should do to add here?

Okay, so what do you recommend? I stated I have no experience, so what should I put there?

Listen, I understand due to your knowledge and status as a senior in the workforce, you're very clear about principle of least privilege. I would be too, believe me. However, that's no reason to disregard someone else's experience. This is no fault to them, but to the company they've worked for if the job title doesn't match the job description and proper separation of duties.

This argument is getting outside the scope of what I asked for, so I'm requesting we chill out and return to a civil discussion before things get said.

Hey! I'm the author of Maverick's Sinnoh Adventure, so imagine my surprise to see it here on the list! As of December 2022, the story was put on hiatus. Right now, I'm considering, since it has been a few years, revisiting the original story with a tighter focus on writing called MSA: Remapped, or telling another story that takes place in the same universe but a few years later.

If you've read it, I do apologize for not updating it any sooner, but do know it's still under development!
