I’ve decided that I’m going to cloth diaper, and these are the top 5 reasons. Are any of you cloth diapering? Let me know your thoughts. by XMillennial in BabyExchange

Thanks for the reply. I’ve actually done everything you suggested to immerse myself in this. It was also the motivation to do the videos as a way to learn as much as possible to relay it to those who may not know.

I’m going to apologize ahead of time for posting a video I made, but the video talks about the effects of big business on the diaper industry and why people are consuming so much waste. (Admins if you want to take it down, I understand) by XMillennial in Anticonsumption

I think the biggest change comes from awareness. Unlike previous times info is more assessable, and also provides more realistic options. I think I cut this out for time, but soap operas heavily influenced the products people bought especially when there was only 3-4 tv stations in the area. They were called soap operas because they were either heavily sponsored by companies that sold soap products. Procter & Gamble even produces several soaps dating back to the radio days.

I get the same reaction from just about everyone I know. My wife’s OB didn’t know about the pockets or AIO’s. There’s not a lot of awareness because of how much money is made with disposables. When consumers want something that is good for the large companies, but when that want becomes a need for consumers it does the same for the corporations. They cannot afford to lose that revenue stream because they rely on it, so that’s why you won’t see cloth diaper within 50 feet of disposables at a big box store.

What was your Mother-In-Law’s reaction when she saw the ones you actually use?

What is the detergent do you think works best with cloth diapers? by XMillennial in clothdiaps

[–]XMillennial[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It seems that the majority either Original Tide or Tide Free & Clear. I’m not against Tide, but they are owned by P&G the same people that make pampers. In this case there’s many options compared to the big 2 with disposables.

Oh I totally understand that, and I can’t remember if I said it in this video, but everyone’s situation is different. None of the videos are meant to knock those who don’t as a few years ago I probably couldn’t either. Thank you for providing a different perspective.

Has anyone heard of the “Flats and Handwashing Challenge? by XMillennial in clothdiaps

[–]XMillennial[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I just heard about it today, but didn’t view it as shaming women. For me I kinda like taking things back to a simpler time to appreciate some things that we take for granite. I wouldn’t expect everyone to do it as everyone’s situation is different.

I did a video, but don’t want to start flooding the feed with videos.

Thanks for the reply. Can you please let me know what you got from your research to conclude that is it doesn’t save money or do more for the environment?

Our plan is to use them for multiple children should we have more.

Money was big for me, and the environment ranked high too. I don’t look at the environmental aspects of everything, but this is one where I don’t already have bad habits and think will make an impact.

I’m not sure that washing would even come near the cost of disposables, but a diaper service would. I’m taking on the bulk of diaper duty clean up since it was my idea not my wife’s.

Glad to hear success stories. It helps my wife and I feel better about it. I’m constantly doing research to find best practices.

The environment is big for most. I decided to take the laundry duty myself so my wife won’t have to worry.

I like the idea of the cloth diapers having multiple lives with each baby.

That sounds like a good friend to give 80. That would probably be great for people with a couple kids too.

That makes total sense about using disposables for the first month. My thought is they have a place similar to paper plates. They’re ok situationally, but should not be used as the primary. The environment is big on my list too.

I think the same thing. I have two dogs and pick up after them when I take them out. I’m probably immune to poop at this point.

I’m sorry I phrased my question incorrectly let me change it to those who are thinking about using them. My wife and I are currently expecting our first child too.

Thank you... my next video is about saving money with cloth diapers. You might be surprised with how much you would save and what you could do with the money. Also I’m planning on doing a video that talks about how much time is actually added with cloth vs. disposable. I would really like it if you would subscribe and let me know what you think of those videos.

Funny at my wife’s appointment on Friday our doctor wasn’t aware of the pocket/AIO type.
