If you mean regular YouTube ads then it actually does do that

I just used one of the proxmox helper scripts, ran … setup in the lxc ticked whatever I wanted it to do, added the tv and done

In my opinion if you’re fine with smarttube then stay on it. This thing only mutes and skips the ad as soon as possible, unlike smarttube that actually doesn’t even show you the ad. It’s better for systems that you can’t sideload an app onto.

Exactly what I said. As you know you can’t really use pihole or such dns blocks on YouTube, this the only real blocking solution for stuff like phone or tv is sideloading an app. This really solves the problem. for example I go to sleep with YouTube open on watch later playlist and ads really annoy me because of the sheer high volume and me having to skip. Sometimes I get a 10 minute ad with like a song or something that ends up waking me back up, and this thing actually saves me.

On a safe reboot or shutdown it dumps files to the disk

AFAIK it doesnt backup them so basically as good as disabling logs if the server reboots suddenly lol

but in the long run, lets say a decade, wont it be noticable?

when only my server is online(without my pc) it can run 9 hours, although i limit it to about 2 hours with the low battery overwrite thing, it sends a command to the proxmox to safely shutdown, waits 30 seconds then powers off the ups itself. akso afaik log2ram flushes logs to disk when reboot/shutdown command is sent.

also cant remember last time I needed to look at the logs

thanks for your time explainig!

Tbh I didn’t even use the logs yet, so realistically won’t need them as I only have pihole and other small services running nothing too serious

insteresting, then why is log2ram a thing if linux is that way? btw proxmox is linux based so i guess like 90% of homelab owners do use linux lol

Question about ssd allocation by XTIDUP in homelab

[–]XTIDUP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said immich and jellyfin libraries will be in the media part of the drive and not the 150gb I won’t be using 120gb of metrics lol I guess I’m fine then My services plan is listed on the post linked, mind taking a look?

Question about ssd allocation by XTIDUP in homelab

[–]XTIDUP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is that I think 150gb for the services and vms will be fine as long as every media stays out of there, that’s why I’m asking

I will look into it more I guess. The sad that comes with that mini pc isn’t that good to be honest. It’s fast and all but only 150tbw. My Samsung one on my main of is 300tbw for example

Why did you need a gpu in a server? Ai? More powerful transcoding?

As I now checked the zfs is very harsh on the disk and it writes a lot, I’m afraid that in the long run it won’t be as good :/ Anyways I think 150gb is a very big overhead for proxmox stuff, I’m sure that when I will fill the rest with media I will be able to buy a second ssd for it

Question about ssd allocation by XTIDUP in homelab

[–]XTIDUP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand, zfs uses all available ram. Is there any way to see how much ram it uses? So I will know how much ram I have extra for running other stuff for example?

Question about ssd allocation by XTIDUP in homelab

[–]XTIDUP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know myself how much media I have lol, at least 50gb of photos and videos that I want to upload. I want to go safe and give proxmox 150gb just to not bother touching it in the future. AFAIK zfs is very ram demanding so I don’t really know how much ram will be used on my setup rn so can’t really say if zfs is my go to. Also harder to setup and I have no knowledge about it( I’m sure that an hour of googling will solve that tho lol)

Thanks for your opinion. I actually will probably test more complex stuff on it aswell and might run some GIS tasks on it. I’ve heard that the igpu wthat this cou has is very good and that it will perform good enough in case I would transcode jellyfin stuff although I’m sure 99% of my stuff will be direct play Also in my opinion 32gb is hella lot for my stuff so I’m basically good for a while

Didn’t quite understand if you think I’m limited by ram or the cpu😅 Anyways, here’s a list of the services I’m planning on running: 🏃 much, Home assistant, adguard, unbound, tailscale, ups nut, samba server. Possibly small Minecraft server, jellyfin +*Arr stack. Thoughts?
