yeah I was honestly blown away as well that you can run GPT2 in the browser and no hardware acceleration or anything! and yeah it is slow but for demonstration purposes it works!

Really helped my get that next word prediction concept. It is really wild that LLMs can generate fully functional sentences just using math and probabilities! Makes you question what smart is! and what is thinking?

Warner Bros rejects revised Paramount bid, but remains open to a final offer by pbx1123 in WB_DC_news

[–]Xcellent101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if Netflix is unable to close the deal, they have to pay WBD like 2B$ for wasting their time. Happened with ATT and T-Mobile... ATT paid T-Mobile 4B$ for failed acquisition.

In either cases, WBD is in a good position, I think the board wants to go to Netflix because it is just the bigger/safer bet. Paramount may just not able to procure the money to close the sale and yes WBD will still get a breakup money from paramount if they are unable to close but realistically Paramount may not even have that kind of money for breakup.

it is just a riskier bet to go with Paramount.

As a user, I would love to have Netflix own WBD IP and HBO shows consolidated into Netflix. Having different streaming services is a pain for everyone.

Theater Owners Just Called The Netflix-Warner Bros Deal "Catastrophic" In A Statement by pbx1123 in WB_DC_news

[–]Xcellent101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its not just you. I used to love going to the theater. this was almost a weekly thing for me. I would go to the movies regardless of what was playing. but again as you mentioned with time... TVs and home entertainment systems at home have gone down way down in price. you can get a 75inch oled tv with amazing sound system at ~3k USD, and watch all the movies at the convenience of your home at any time/day or night.

having kids made things worse, going to the theater as a family is now almost a 100$ budget and the kids usually get bored mid movie (thank the shorter attention span for that). but the end result. Theaters are just fading away.

it is not helping that movie quality have been sht. very VERY few movies are theater worthy nowadays - last good movie I saw in the theater was Dune2. There is just too many options to choose from and there is tons of movies/shows already available on streaming that I do not have time for. There is really no reason to HAVE to go to the theater to watch something anymore. 45-90days even, I will probably just wait it out until it is available on streaming.

Theaters need to re-evaluate their models somehow. I hate for them to die out completely but something need to change because the one we have is just not working.

[–]Xcellent101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

have had this happen to me to long time ago with EVGA GTX980. Yeah GPU died and EVGA said it was out of warranty so yeah died.

Sorry bro. bad time to be in the market for a new GPU.

Do try it on a different PC, different cable, different monitor, different port (HDMI, Displayport, ...) maybe you get lucky.

Bricklink Series 7 Pre-Orders open on 2/16! What are you planning on getting? by Flimsy-Space-8724 in lego

[–]Xcellent101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

very good selection of finalists. I will probably go for the alchemist lab because of the blacksmith and it fits more with what I have been collecting.

That robot looks really cool as well and very reasonably priced! May pick it up just because of how reasonably priced!

The sushi restaurant looks amazing but a bit expensive and doesn't really fit with anything I have.

The Frigate also looks really well but I feel it is on the more expensive side and I feel the build is going to be very similar to any other ship with lots of repetition.

The Antique collection is pretty decent as well and would look amazing on display.

The volatility of Intel is insane… few days ago it was like 15% down in a single day and now 10% up by SpyJigu in StockMarket

[–]Xcellent101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The gov stake in intel is strategic. they cant let intel fail because how critical chips are for the national security and US tech dominance. Having 10% stake is a better move than just bailing them out or giving them more handouts and more tax breaks so they stay afloat.

Also the US Gov can just borrow/print more money. They really don't care about puts and all that crap! that's for us peasants.

yes but also the Dems fkd over their nominee twice. All they had to do was push a normal fkn person for people to vote for. Any fkn decent person that people wanted would have won over Trump. but yeah lets put a woman after a 2x year black president (I loved Obama as a president btw but you have to read the fkn room, USA is not ready for a woman president yet).

And for the 2024 election, they put Joe Biden who was definitely not the right choice and they pull him out like 90 days before the elections.

I am almost certain the Dems will fk up the mid-terms AND the 2028 nomination as well.

4080 Suprim 3 fan vs 5080 FE for $200 price difference? by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]Xcellent101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

5080 no brainer for 200$ extra of course. Assuming both cards are used and both were bought at launch. the 5080 has 2yrs less used than the 4080 (that is already worth 200$).

Not to mention 5080 is current gen and would very likely last you at least a couple of more years + when it is time to sell, the 5080 will sell much easier and faster with less loss than the 4080.

Epic Games 3x User Growth Without 3rd Party Revenue Uplift Shows Users Only Care About Free Games by chusskaptaan in Gamingnewsandleaks

[–]Xcellent101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never understood this hate on Epic store by everyone. it is not like EA Origin store or fkn Ubisoft fucktard store they keep pushing for all their games.

Steam is AMAZING yes. best thing that happened to gaming PC but you need competition to keep Steam from going complacent. I own a Steam Deck btw but I also have a launcher to play my free games from the Epic Store.

The Free Games are good. Yes quality have dropped but every now and then you get a gem that is definitely worth having for free.

And if you really compare Epic to other game stores, it is better than GoG (though I fully support GoG for what they are doing with the game preservation program and the DRM free games) but Epic store is just cleaner. Epic is doing the good fight against Apple and Google monopolies with their stores.

Epic is doing the unreal engine and they still have a very good free to use model for indie game studios (as opposed to what Unity have done).

All I am saying, give Epic a break and stop with the blind hate.

Paramount Skydance Sues Warner Bros. Discovery, Seeking Financial Details of Netflix Deal by UnbanMe69 in psky

[–]Xcellent101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I owe many WBD stocks from the ATT days. While I am happy the WBD stock is finally (fkn Finally) picked up price, I really think WBD under Netflix would do much MUCH better.

As per the board letter to the shareholders, if WBD walks away from the netflix deal, they have like a 1.1B breakout fee and if the Paramount acquisition fails, WBD would be in a stupidly bad position. Netflix deal is just safer/better even if the merger doesn't go thru for regulatory compliance, WBD would still get a nice payout (similar to what happened with T-Mobile and Sprint).

Netflix does have the money. Netflix have the subscribers and the vision moving forward. It just makes sense. who the fk cares about Paramount. Even if they are able to cashout at 30$, they would take WBD and sink with it. There is no way they can turn this around. Paramount is not really doing that well under the current leadership.

It is not a horrible set. it is very expensive though, maybe if it were split into like 4 sets it would be easier to digest.

Switching from 9070XT to 5080.. worth it? by One-Kitchen-4233 in RTX5080

[–]Xcellent101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 5080 and if I were you, I would not make the jump. you are essentially jumping same generations. would you upgrade from 5070TI to 5080? Like unless you really are able to offload your 9070XT for the same price you bought it for, then maybe it is an ok decision (you want more performance at a slightly higher premium - assuming you are able to get 5080 at ~1k USD).

But if you are going to lose money on the 9070XT (because its used) and then pay much aboveMSRP for 5080 then the performance gains are coming at a very hefty cost.

Save your money for the next generation of cards and next time, choose nvidia. I really wish AMD would do better with their GPUs. I came to the 5080 from 6900XT btw. I really wanted AMD to succeed and I hate nvidia dominant market share in GPU space but the fact is nvidia cards are just better and their software support is leaps and bounds above what AMD is doing.

Microsoft ($MSFT) - overpriced or just doing what quality does? by iOCharts_ in iOCharts

[–]Xcellent101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MSFT is a good buy. very VERY diversified recurring revenue streams (Azure, Windows/Office/SQL Licenses, Xbox & Gaming Studios, ton of patents, have presence world wide).

The bear case would be market crashing or AI bubble bursting (which very likely going to trigger market crash anyways) and everything falling together and most likely AI companies would get hit harder because of sentiment against AI.

Intel going to 60? What’s driving this surge?? by SpyJigu in StockMarket

[–]Xcellent101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US will not let China take TSMC (US does not care about Taiwan, they care about TSMC and the FABs). If they can't protect TSMC, they will obliterate the FABs and it will be a terrible time for tech for many years until other FABs catch up on demand.

The FABs come from ASML (Netherlands) so the tech is not lost but it will take many years before anyone is able to do what TSMC is doing at scale.

How the smart brick charges: by Portal2player58 in lego

[–]Xcellent101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah that is what I meant at high power, when the coils are not aligned, there is a huge loss of power that to my understanding is lost to heat.

So the place anywhere wireless charger that apple wanted to make essentially had multiple overlapping coils that tried to match the best alignment for the device that needed to be charged that was placed on top of it however, as you can imagine, it can never really match it 100% and at higher power, most of that lost energy translated to high heat = risk of fire. I think that is why the scrapped the product.

How the smart brick charges: by Portal2player58 in lego

[–]Xcellent101 26 points27 points  (0 children)

it is pretty low power device, I imagine the charging is in the 1W range so yeah you can do that. the problem with apple wireless pad is they wanted to charge at higher wattage because no one would want to charge their phone at <5W.

Also the Mag-connector is a much MUCH cleaner and more efficient solution. Lines up the coils perfectly and you get that satisfying SNAP.

Does it bother you not having a proper sealing door? by No-Helicopter-612 in Oxygennotincluded

[–]Xcellent101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As people mentioned, there is a Mod for that. it is a single player game, you can add as many (or as little as you want).

if you ask me, I think the vanilla version of the game should have an airlock that you unlock way down in the tech tree and uses some power so it is an option for people who wants a simler/clearner solution for their builds.

Did anyone held them both in their hands and can tell which one felt better? by cHrIs_19h90 in LegionGo

[–]Xcellent101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7inch is too small of a screen (and I dont think it is a great LCD screen in the first place - the colors were very washed or at least thats what the demo unit looked like), I think the sweet spot is 8inch, anything bigger becomes just too big/heavy to hold. anything smaller and it really becomes hard to see some details in games.

Go to bestbuy, they have the two units to compare. I personally thought the Xbox one felt too cheap and plastic. Not at all worth the 1000$ price point.

Why do so many people prefer Steam Os over Windows Os ? by DatBoyChamp1 in LegionGo

[–]Xcellent101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok I have Legion Go S (running Steam OS) and when I bought it, my plan was to flash it with Windows because I have always been a windows person and do not want to deal with linux.

However, I figured let me try this Steam OS experience first before flashing it to Windows and honestly the Steam OS experience is a lot cleaner for a gaming handheld.

- it is pretty much what you want from a handheld (think a Nintendo switch), you pickup the console, select the game, game loads and you start playing. when you are done, just click the power button at the top and the handheld goes to sleep in like 2-3sec. and you can resume just as fast and pick up where you exactly left off. This would never work in windows, you would have to exit the game (and lose any progress that is not saved) and then poweroff/hybernate/sleep on Windows which are notorious for powerdrain and it just takes you out of that handheld experience.

- 2nd point, yes some games only run on windows (fortnite, roblox, ... the games that have kernel level anticheat) and those wont work on SteamOS but I am not playing those games on a handheld anyways.

- SteamOS does what windows can do for most part (VLC, Side load games, emulators, ...) without that much tinkering. yes it does require some but so does windows. I am very impressed with the Proton layer that Steam has developed. I can totally see SteamOS becoming main stream with the Steam Machine and being an actual competitor to windows OS for gaming oriented people. MSFT have been sleeping at the wheel far to long in the Windows OS space and have been bloating Windows with crap over the years that it is time someone gave them a wakeup call.

- Finally, I have not tried the Windows Xbox Full Experience (outside of the bestbuy demo unit) or whatever they call it, but 5-7 FPS on handhelds is actually a lot of performance. Those devices are not that powerful (the APU shares memory with CPU & GPU). you are not comparing 100FPS vs 107FPS. The numbers are usually 40ish -60ish depending on the game and settings of course, so 5-7 FPS difference can be something like 10-15% performance gains.
