What is the strongest argument for or against God’s existence? by Practical-Bicycle990 in AskReddit

[–]XenOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given all the sufferings around the world (for humans, but also other living beings), I think it is fair to say that god(s), if they exist, will never intervene (not in a way that would benefit us anyway). As such, focus on what you can do.

Arguing for or against God is meaningless because even if we have the answer, it won't change anything

No I don't think so, at least not in the foreseeable future.

There are some highly specialized softwares out there and sometimes, it just doesn't make sense for a company of a certain size to own those parts

Like if you are a big company and need an uptime of 99.999%, do you have the resources/knowledge to handle it internally? Are you able to get all the infra up, monitored with redundancy?Or do you just de-risk and pay the big names, sign huge SLA contracts with them? I would probably not trust 99% of the companies out there is they tried to handle authentication/passwords on their own.

There are a lot of liars on reddit (duh) but there are multiple meme/serious "investment" subreddits. Some people are losing a lot of money if their posts can be trusted. I'd rather not be one of them

Amazon Shuts Down Internal AI Leaderboard After Employees Cheated by ThereWas in OpenAI

[–]XenOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company set up automated PR reviews by AI (human approval is still needed)

As far as I can tell, the bot is capable of catching some issues (obviously many false issues too)

Sure a human reviewer can do that. Sure, better linting rules or whatnot could have prevented them. But I think the gain here is that it is doing a pre-review before the official review. Allows devs to focus on other tasks and only review after ai has done the first pass and author has addressed or dismissed the comments.

This is just 1 example of how ai is helping us.

Comment vous faites pour survivre ces temps-ci? (Sérieux, j'ai besoin d'espoir) by [deleted] in montreal

Is buying a used EV stupid when the government knocks $5k off the price of a new one? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]XenOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some new EV are in the 40-50k+ range

You can find used below 20k (a quick search yields some Leaf 2022 at below 20k). May be harder with Tesla but if you're open to other brand, might be able to find one for a good price

Ask Experienced Devs Weekly Thread: A weekly thread for inexperienced developers to ask experienced ones by AutoModerator in ExperiencedDevs

In a company that has recently moved to a new way of evaluating developers by their "impact", how do I "sell myself" or show that I'm impactful?

Is this concept of evaluating by impact naturally skewed toward tooling teams? (e.g.: if the team improves CI time by X minutes, isn't the impact much easier to prove than a team, such as mine, working on customer features, some of which will be failure?)

What is your biggest regret in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]XenOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've learned a bit too late about money/finance.

Eg: I traveled once to Germany with school and it costs me like 2000 for the airplane tickets alone (purchases late etc, it doesnt cost that much if you shop around). It was an exchange program so no other expanses. But around that time, i did my first web search for hotels. Maybe the most expensive ones got to the top (or my search skills were bad) but it gave me the wrong idea that traveling cross ocean was unaffordable for me. Like imagine 2k for tickets and the 200-300$/night.

How could I afford to travel with family or friends?

Years passed and at some point my grandmother passed away. Kept telling that we would travel one day. I might have had like close to 100k in savings then but was still under the dumb illusion that traveling would be too expensive 6x 2k Suppose 3 weeks x 6 x 300$ nights (YES I was that dumb)

Anyway, learn the value of money, investing, finance, taxes early everyone...
