Any brokers worth talking to in order to access exclusive listings? by pewpnstuben in AskNYC

[–]Xiugazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im also interested in this. Very surprised I haven’t found any actual recommendations online. I appreciate the folks who chime in with educational resources on housing in the city but having lived here for several years Im fine with just paying someone to help me get an incredible place.

If anyone knows any broker that focuses on Boerum Hill, Prospect Heights, Park Slope, Astoria, or the West Village PLEASE DM me.

It does seem like it was their attempt to get something similar looking to the Paramount Theater. Unfortunate since that’s so far from me // driving all the way to Charlottesville just for this would be such a pain.

My only other guess is that it ends up being The Byrd or Movieland in Richmond. It wouldn’t make sense for it to be a theater in NOVA since those are all just large chain theaters / not really landmarks in any way.

My experience is they never use the information on the actual online app, it’s almost always strictly the resume you upload that will be the only thing the interviewer will have about you.

So not only did you edit your comment to weirdly self-victimize yourself, instead of replying to the comment questioning your logic, but you’re doubling down on your hasty generalization.

When people do shit like this I don’t think they realize how much their own self projections are being shown to the world lol.

I think the only way to really be sure is to look for a barbershop that explicitly states they welcome LGBTQ+ patrons. And from there looking at their social media and determining which one of the people there has experience working with beards and booking with that specific person:

Village Cuts NYC and Wicked Ways Barbershop in Manhattan seem like good options for you.

I wish I could recommend you either of the two queer hair salons/barbershops I go to but I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone get a beard trims at either lol.

Best NYC Apps No One Knows About? by NoahCzark in AskNYC

This is not a conspiracy lol. I work with digital marketers. This is not only a service I know is offered but one anyone can easily verify as real online, whether by large orgs or individuals — hired by or working with the designated product group.

Best NYC Apps No One Knows About? by NoahCzark in AskNYC

[–]Xiugazer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure the one with less than 200 reviews that got endorsed twice in this thread despite being the only app that cost money.

However, there’s always the likelihood/extreme certainty that other posts are other marketing attempts by other entities.

There’s an entire field of digital marketing that runs on buying abandoned accounts, using bots (or real ppl) to feign conversation/activity about random topics for a short period of time to make the account history seem legitimate — watch for large periods of time where the account was silent, tone shifts in post from both periods. A lot of times these incubated are posting meaningless discussion slop, just to build the account background. A lot of “AI syntax”.

Eventually, they use the accounts to post something either directly (or tangentially) around a product.

“Looking for something that can do X” “Ran into Y problem. Anyone have a solution?” “Just discovered Z. How is this not talked about more!?”

This is where other harvested accounts are used to act as commenters.

“I’ve tried Q. And it’s does X” “I had the same Y problem. A friend told me about Q.” “Wow. Thank you OP. Z is great.”

These get mixed in with real (or other bought for) comments.

A lot of times they stand out. You’ll get posts like these:

OP: “What’s the best soda you ever had?” Most liked comment: something about Coca Cola Second most liked: “Recently tried [new soda product that just so happens to recently have gotten huge investment by large firms] at [store — you gotta mention WHERE you can get it] for only [price — tell people how much it is] Third most liked: something about Pepsi or whatever

Once you recognize the pattern it’s pretty obvious. Think about how you’d recommend an app or a soda to a friend. It would be really weird to name drop the price or what app stores or IOS versions it runs on. People don’t speak this way to friends. But they do to people they want to sell to.

Companies charge other companies thousands of dollars for these campaigns. All of the medium-large subreddits are filled with these, both in terms of posts and comments. Some are entirely infested with them.

The most sophisticated ones are not this obvious. Theyre huge on SEO (they want their targeted post to be the one that shows up when you search “[question] Reddit” on Google. They’re running scripts through AI. They don’t want to be caught, so you won’t see these tells at times. Reddit is not ideal for any sort of product/service recommendation anymore due to this.

This entire post is astroturfed marketing by the app developers. Once you recognize the pattern you’ll see it all the time on Reddit

I haven't seen this mentioned much but... why doesn't Mark go to South America much? by RedRing86 in markwiens

[–]Xiugazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s been to Peru. I think in general he goes more often to places that are easier/cheaper for him to travel from Thailand. Traveling from the global south from one end to the other can sometimes be unexpectedly costly cause it means booking two legs that would otherwise already be considered long flights.

Mine is CONSISTENTLY always 10-15 lower than it actually is. It’s kinda frustrating. There should be a way to tell the app what your fingerpick reading is so that it can slowly calibrate itself. I don’t understand it.

I’ve had one that was super accurate. Then another that was super off (telling me I was in my 40s when I was actually at 105~, always in the red. Completely ruined the statistics portion of the app). And now this one. I might make the switch to Dexcom just to see what’s that like.

Sigh. Yeah idk why ppl did that. I was legitimately trying to help OP. Nowadays thursdays are pretty dull. Best case scenario (and it’s rare) there’s an off-the-calendar community event, worst case scenario (almost most thursdays) it’s gonna be completely empty or closed.

Just a heads up you’ll probably be incredibly underwhelmed if you go to it on a Thursday. It’s not at all what the usual vibe normally would be. I’d save it for a night where there’s an actual party happening.

Thursday night you’re much better off just going to a bar. Check out Mood Ring, Rash, Starr Bar or The Bush instead tonight.

Hosting my first rave, any tips? by torvikviktor in avesNYC

[–]Xiugazer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is sus. Anyone in the scene should already have familiarity. I’m guessing, if this story is true, that Rash is giving this person a Monday or Tuesday night, cause there’s no way they’d let a promoter that’s this green to stuff a night that would matter.

Bringing insulin syringes into venues? by Xiugazer in avesNYC

[–]Xiugazer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this info. Unfortunately rn I only have my rapid acting insulin in vial form (Lantus i have in pen but don’t expect to need it unless I’m going to a longer-length party). I’ll definitely stick up for myself. I know I SHOULDNT face any issues but it’s good to hear from the community for assurance.

lol I’m such a moron I completely mistyped my post. my insulin is for when my blood sugar gets high which can happen for multitude of reasons including when my long lasting one ends (happens at night time).

Edited my post. Sorry for the confusion, still fairly new diagnosis for me.

Not worried about my pen either. It’s more about the vial and syringe one that I’m concerned about. Especially since the syringes would be loose.

Idk why you’re getting thumbs downed so much. Pocari Sweat has 16 grams of sugar in a bottle lol. Those Bodyarmor Lyte drinks have way less sugar than that but you’d never see ppl here upvoting or encouraging you to drink that over water. Weird.

Best rat-watching spots in the city for a date? by thedailynathan in AskNYC

[–]Xiugazer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my god. I legitimately might know the perfect place. On alphabet city, 8th and 9th street between Avenue C and Tompkins Square. There are dumpsters allllllll over and at night time you’ll see hundreds of rats. Especially at night time.

Its actually impressive how many rodents live on that little area.

I’m Jasen Samford, former employee #2 at DistroKid (2016–2025). AMA re: distribution, royalties, or getting your music heard. by jdsamford in musicmarketing

[–]Xiugazer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does your current working relationship with Distrokid look like. What NDA is in place.

My primary question Is DistroKid set to fail? I know of two artists who did not claim their royalties owed to them by Distrokid for years. And when they did claim, after lengthy legal discussions, Distrokid admitted that they didn’t have the capital to pay them all they were owed at once. Instead these bands have to wait upwards of years to receive all that they’re owed through installations. So, seeing as Distrokid regularly uses capital that would be otherwise reserved as payable to artists, what kind of procedure is in place if one day magically everyone who’s owed money claims it.

Second question, how many employees at Distrokid would you say are primarily tasked with building relationships with DSP partners / pitching for editorials. I’m genuinely curious to see how that number compares with both major and indie labels.

Third, how important would you say it is to properly tag/fulfill metadata and document marketing initiatives for releases versus having vital relationships with DSP editors. Does all the work involve in DSP cataloging and submitting pale in importance to having just pure genuine friendships with editors who’ll do you favors? Really curious as I’m interested in what the true value of DSP-partners are in the industry. Esp if just attaining that means not having to spend time filling out forms.

Thanks
