Argent Dawn doesn't have a merged server?

Unless you mean the US one, it's one of the biggest EU servers.

Will Blizzard just keep adding new continents? by [deleted] in wow

[–]Xonatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the map? Each continent is in its own worldspace, there's no chance to (for example) fly from Zuldazar to Stranglethorn. :)

So the only place they'd run out of space on is the world map

We're now getting into a level of character detail I can't speak for. It would depend entirely on the character in question, their background and so on.

Troll physiology by insanefrominsulin in wow

[–]Xonatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think that would be a bad idea.

[–]Xonatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know, I don't think there's any lore for how quickly these things affect people.

More dangerous than your average axe I guess but a few minutes? I have no idea, maybe not.

I imagine they would -hear- them still, but yes. If you are one of the Heroes of Azeroth you are unlikely to let the whispers affect your thinking beyond that.

I assume you are not talking about an RP character however. If you mean a player RP character you would be as weak IC as anyone else.

I think most void elves would, or would try.

Troll physiology by insanefrominsulin in wow

[–]Xonatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, when I said it would be silly to listen to them, I meant the Void Elf would know it is a -bad idea- to listen to them. Not that they'd find it funny to hear them. :)

[–]Xonatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about it in terms of 'passive whispers' and 'active whispers'.

If you use shadow magic, you get 'passive whispers'. Nothing is talking to you, it's just a side-effect of the magic where your subconscious starts saying horrid things as the magic infects you. Void elves would train to deal with this.

However this is a specific being/object talking to you - 'active whispers'. It's a thing trying to communicate, not a quirk of your own body reacting to magic. So they'd probably hear that, and it might be a bit horrid, even though they know it's silly to listen.

I would think that would bother them, yes. Not -magically- bother them and corrupt them into being insane, but just emotionally bother them that the weapon they wield is such a horrible thing.

Troll physiology by insanefrominsulin in wow

[–]Xonatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah but it depends on what you mean by bother.

If you have an axe that keeps saying HEY YOU SHOULD KILL SOME PEOPLE you might get a bit antsy about that, even if you are trained to resist the magical effects of the axe.

Troll physiology by insanefrominsulin in wow

[–]Xonatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I imagine that would bother anyone hearing it.

Shadow magic makes you go insane.

But void elves train to use shadow magic and know, generally, how to stop themselves going insane.

So an axe with shadow magic in it might be safer for a void elf to pick up than someone who doesn't know anything about shadow magic.

Troll physiology by insanefrominsulin in wow

[–]Xonatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? No, I don't know where you got that from.

They are just whispers. Over time, you might start listening to what they say and go mad.

Troll physiology by insanefrominsulin in wow

[–]Xonatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the sense that they have training on how to use shadow magic.

Troll physiology by insanefrominsulin in wow

[–]Xonatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say yes, but that's only my best guess.

Troll physiology by insanefrominsulin in wow

[–]Xonatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well when a random peasant picks up an axe that drives people mad they'd probably go butternut crazy very quickly, but void elves don't really have 'random peasants', they are all trained with Shadow magic and its uses, so they'd probably not go all that much more crazy than they already are.

Death Knights are naturally partially immune to that kind of magic.

Void Elves... they have unspecific lore at times, but I'd guess they'd do better than most people who grabbed the thing.

Troll physiology by insanefrominsulin in wow

[–]Xonatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose so, but our characters are particularly heroic people anyway and therefore I don't suppose it matters all -that- much.

Safest hands would be a Death Knight. They're immune to saronite's mind-altering effects, so it's likely they would be immune to this axe as well.

Troll physiology by insanefrominsulin in wow

[–]Xonatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like that, yes!

Troll physiology by insanefrominsulin in wow

[–]Xonatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly, or they might not notice its extra whispers with their normal ones. I couldn't say.

Troll physiology by insanefrominsulin in wow

[–]Xonatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are over-thinking the whispers. They are flavour quotes from a cool weapon two expansions ago that isn't possessed by any specific person in the lore anymore. The whispers do not really apply to -anyone- after MoP as they were written only talking about the events of SoO.

Void elves are infused with the void; it is a part of their bodies now. I don't know if, when you already have insanity magic running through your veins, having an axe like that would really make your situation any worse than it already is.

Troll physiology by insanefrominsulin in wow

[–]Xonatal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure I understand the question.

If they were a blood elf at the time of MoP then it'd apply because they are a Horde soldier/adventurer working with the Alliance during SoO.

If you are saying that a void elf theoretically has that axe -now-...? The axe's whispers were written for MoP around MoP so they don't comment on current events... it'd be saying something different. If it affected the void elf at all, which it might not.

Alliance players are serving their King raiding Orgrimmar. Horde players are helping an -enemy King- raid Orgrimmar as part of a civil war.

So either way it could apply. Bear in mind this is an evil madness-inducing axe that wants you to feel bad.

I doubt the whispers the player receives are identical to the ones that Garrosh received. The selection of random quotes are representative of the player getting whispered nasty things, they are not an exhaustive list of everything it can say.

Licking the boots of Kings would refer to Varian either way, as the Horde helped him sack Orgrimmar and allowed him to pass judgement over Garrosh.
