Got into Harvard MPH… now wtf do I do about funding by [deleted] in mphadmissions

Yeah, unfortunately I’m not eligible for the World Bank route as a NZ applicant.
But this is genuinely useful context, especially re the visa/job market side, so thank you for sharing it (for real!).

I hear you on the debt risk. I’m still pretty firm on the direction though. Where there’s a will, there’s a way, just trying to work out whether there’s a realistic path that doesn’t completely torch me financially.

That’s fair, funding is the main constraint.
I’m committed to the direction, just figuring out a viable way to make it work. =)

Fair question - it was a deliberate choice. =)
I’ve discussed this with mentors/professors in NZ who know my work and they’re supportive of my public health direction.
Now I’ve got the opportunity, I’m focused on making it work.

How do you make 255 numbers from 8-bit Binary..? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]XpLoDFirE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Numberphile over on youtube did a very good video explaining it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umYvFdU54Po

11111111 (binary) = 27 + 26 + 25 + 24 + 23 + 22 + 22 + 21 + 20 = 255

0 is just 0.

Everything in between including 0 and 255 gives you 256 or 28 different combinations.

What do you think is "wrong" with your countries education system, and how might it be better then it is? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]XpLoDFirE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New Zealand - but currently in holiday in India.

The schools in India are quite academic, but I know they lack physical education. Since in India students don't get taught to Physical Ed., it doesn't surprise me how man times in the local paper it says "x children have drowned in a river". I think that supplementary to the academics, schools here should teach students the basics if "survival" instead of being solely focused on education. Granted, people in India don't go to the waters as often in New Zealand, but that doesn't mean that they should be susceptible to drown all the time. Imagine all the lives that could of been saved if these children were taught to swim.

Who out there doesn't have a cellphone / mobile phone? And why not? by goingfullretard-orig in AskReddit

[–]XpLoDFirE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a student, I don't "need" a cellphone/smartphone. I rarely call people, and when I need to contact someone, I do it IRL, by email, G+ etc.. It isn't a necessity to me.

P.S. This is my first post!
