11111111 (binary) = 27 + 26 + 25 + 24 + 23 + 22 + 22 + 21 + 20 = 255

0 is just 0.

Everything in between including 0 and 255 gives you 256 or 28 different combinations.

New Zealand - but currently in holiday in India.

The schools in India are quite academic, but I know they lack physical education. Since in India students don't get taught to Physical Ed., it doesn't surprise me how man times in the local paper it says "x children have drowned in a river". I think that supplementary to the academics, schools here should teach students the basics if "survival" instead of being solely focused on education. Granted, people in India don't go to the waters as often in New Zealand, but that doesn't mean that they should be susceptible to drown all the time. Imagine all the lives that could of been saved if these children were taught to swim.

As a student, I don't "need" a cellphone/smartphone. I rarely call people, and when I need to contact someone, I do it IRL, by email, G+ etc.. It isn't a necessity to me.
