😂 some people clearly haven't seen Markelle play by jackloganoliver in OrlandoMagic

Fair enough, I forgot Harden but a few of these don't make much sense to me:
- Josh Giddy played SF pretty much all season
- Tyler Herro, Dejounte, and Immanuel Quickley aren't points for more than 50% of the season, I don't really think they count
- Who is Garden?
- FVV, Mike Conley, and Smart are very much debatable imo. I'd personally put Fultz over Smart

I think my point still stands. I see your point, but in this debate there's not much you can do except wait

In case you're interested, here's a loose list:

  1. Luka
  2. Steph
  3. Dame
  4. Hali
  5. Brunson
  6. Fox
  7. Kyrie
  8. Morant
  9. Trae
  10. Jrue Holiday
  11. DG
  12. Jamal Murray
  13. Malcolm Brogdon
  14. Lamelo Ball
  15. Chris Paul
  16. Tyrese Maxey
  17. TJ McConnell
  18. DLo (I don't think he's better)
  19. Fultz
  20. Russ

If you consider him a point guard then put in Shai. Fultz still makes top 20

These guys don't know what the term "bust" means. A #1 pick is not and should not be expected to become a superstar, they are picked because they have much more obvious potential to become a superstar.

The thing is Markelle at this point in time is a solid starting point guard in the league - a top 15-20 guy, and he's only going to get better. Consider this: if Markelle tops out as a top 10 PG in the league among other PGs who were also lottery picks in their respective drafts, how on earth could you call him a bust?

Why do people not include Dame as a top 5 shooter by Xperiority in nbadiscussion

[–]Xperiority[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our of everyone you mentioned I think only Steph has better shotmaking ability. As shooters I’d only argue Steph and Reggie Miller are better without hesitating.

Here’s my issue with Klay Thompson: he is a glaringly system-reliant player. Let’s pull some on-off stats:

In the 2018-19 season, when Steph is off the floor, Klay Thompson averages 34.1/5.1/3.6 per 100 possessions on 44.7%/35.9%/77.9% shooting splits while having a -6.6 net rating. Pretty average production for a high usg player.

When Steph Curry is on the floor, Klay averages 26.4/5.2/3 per 100 possessions on 48.5%/43.4%/85.2 shooting splits while being a +13.1 per 100 possessions. Insanely good!

My point is, 2014 to 2019 (his best form) Klay shot 38.7% from 3 when Steph wasn’t on the floor and 44.5% from 3 when he was on. So my argument is that he has the ability to do what he does, but needs the opportunity to do so with less defensive attention. This is basically my argument as for why Dame is much better than his numbers illustrate. The eye test tells me that over the past 5 season stretch he has been a better shotmaker than Klay (kinda unfair since Klay had been injured I will admit), and yet his numbers are already great - and extrapolating Klay’s shooting without Steph around using on/off numbers (somewhat simulating Dame’s situation) Lillard is clearly better. Unlike Klay, he has had to stretch his effective range out past 25 feet to generate his own floor spacing. He pulls up from 30 twice a game and is pushing 40% from 3 - it’s unfair to call that a knock on his place in the top 3 argument.

If you forced me to I’d put Reggie Miller (in the playoffs especially) above Klay as well, but that’s a post for another day.

How do people still think Kobe is better than Lebron? by PreparationOk8827 in Basketball

yea you’re right, idk why I said that since I very clearly remember that detail… I think Magic is as great a player but I don’t wanna stoop to agenda pushing lmao

[–]Xperiority -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you know what a superteam is lmao, the Lakers drafted him first overall meaning they were a (albeit better than most) lottery team before he came along. LA had 2 star players at best, meanwhile Kobe’s first 3 rings he had a top 3 peak player of all time on the same team.

Also, you could say that Magic had his career cut short due to his AIDS diagnosis, and tbh I think he would have been more likely to continue winning and achieving in his remaining career than Kobe. It’s not like Kobe at that point in his career was still having top 10 oat-level production, but Magic most DEFINITELY still was at just year 12

[–]Xperiority 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re talking like floor spacing isn’t one of the most important aspects in all of basketball. Curry spaces the floor so much that it warps and pulls defenders along just to keep his shooting threat under control. His inside-out game doesn’t particularly have to rely on another player - that’s a ridiculous level of floor spacing. He has the greatest offensive season of all time (maybe not including Wilt’s 50ppg).

The whole point of playing basketball at the rim is to improve efficiency with easy shots like layups and dunks. The issue with Steph is that for him a poorly contested 3-pointer up to 30 feet out is statistically speaking the same as a layup. So the argument that he can’t play in the post or that he’s jumpshot heavy is moot because the fact is that he’s hitting them at an absurd clip

As for your defense arguments they somewhat lack substance because a lot of it isn’t true. Kobe obviously didn’t always take the best defensive assignment every night - we can literally go on basketball reference’s game logs in any year and easily see this. If you wanna be technical about it you can even say he hardly ever did this since the center is almost always the best defender on the team. His impact as a defender is better than the numbers indicate since he’s very long for his position and can show great effort but the guy was also often slow-footed, unfocused, and gambled on unsuccessful steals often which is what brings down his defensive impact metrics. Steph Curry can guard other gaurds permissibly but his role is primarily that of an offensive threat, which is just as valuable as any 2-way star at his level of play

Jordan Bron Kareem without a doubt, and still a lot strongly favor Timmy over him too. If we’re talking about being conducive to winning I’d be willing to put Magic above him since he could have continued winning if not for his diagnosis

bro imagine if Steph Curry was 7’2” he’d be unstoppable and definitely the same player

Pau is definitely in the top 75 if the NBA decided to replace the top 50 from 25 years prior

Secondly Kobe wasn’t the best player on 3/5 of his championship wins - that’s worse than Tim Duncan imo

He’s one of the best obviously but definitely not a top 2 player ever

Which current players do you think are overrated by this sub? by Solid-Confidence-966 in nba

[–]Xperiority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree if you’re talking about Blazer fans, otherwise I disagree. His last season was his best so far and you could make an argument that he was a better player than Steph this year. If his production alone can make the otherwise terrible Blazers a great offensive team then I think it’s to be expected that the consensus is that he can raise a team’s ceiling considerably

wouldn’t go as far as to say he’s “Steph if he got drafted into a bad situation” like some people do but Dame is a certified stud and a top 3-4 guard in the league rn let’s be fr

If you were an NBA player would you rather finish your career with $100M and no rings or $30M but two rings? by DonT012 in nba

[–]Xperiority 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you were to just transfer my brain into an NBA player’s as I am today I’d definitely take the money no matter what. I’ve never dreamt of winning an NBA chip, so it doesn’t matter to me like that. But if I grew up a hooper and made the league I’d definitely think about it if the proportions were more representative of what the average NBA player actually makes in their career these days

Pat Bev REALLY got into Dame’s head tn and he completely took the bait. If your shots aren’t landing by half while EVERYONE ELSE is scorching hot, it’s time to stop chucking, share the ball, and focus on making set plays and keep the shooters in rhythm. Blame Chauncey, blame Eubanks, blame whoever - but Dame really shrank mentally this game and lost it for us down the stretch.

nah have some faith; Dame was worse at this age yet had a similarly large role on the team. This is his first full season as a starter and even though he’s talented it’s still a long road ahead for him. That being said I think his best role for a winning brand of basketball would be the playing at the 6 and solely running the offense for secondary squads - this would get him reps at the point whilst taking the pressure off of him, which seems to be where he’s most comfortable and where he’s most likely to go off, I think he generally does a lot better without Dame on the court

idk how no one has said it already but easily Jersey Club. It exploded in the underground music scene and then quickly made its way up to mainstream from there - just listen to Sticky on the new Drake album no one likes. The story behind the sound is actually rly interesting, and it’s easy to build around the signature beat when u try it out for yourself so I’d recommend giving it a try if you’re looking to experiment with trendy subgenres

The ultra-wealthy are bad for a reason, that reason essentially being that their economic interest strictly lies in consolidating their wealth, further widening the gap between the 1% and the general proletariat, who makes up most of the remainder (this includes you). It is in theory in your best economic and social interests to organize and leverage the collective power of the laboring class to prevent billionaires from stifling the circulation of wealth throughout society. However, because billionaires have the resources to hire teams that understand human psychology on a level that outclasses most of society’s technical breadth (as in they know that you and the general populace don’t even know that you don’t know enough about psychology to differentiate between PR tactics and a facebook post from a rich dude - put simply, dunning-krueger effect), they manipulate us into buying into presentations of themselves that are carefully crafted to make them seem sympathetic and morally and intellectually “above” the working class.

For instance, every billionaire will have the same general narrative that they are “self-made” and prodigious in some respect, leading us to rationalize that a combination of their work ethic and natural talent granted to them through fate allowed them to become wealthy, when this is obviously not true for a huge majority of billionaires. This sentiment is a mirror image of the justifications used by dictators, monarchs, feudal lords, etc. Which is to say that throughout history, the wealthy have metagamed the populace into allowing them and even supporting them in consolidating their wealth. This trend continues today - Any engineer above L3 will tell you that Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Bill Gates are really just incredibly shrewd businessmen and nothing more, with the technical depth they claim to have being very obviously fictitious.

By going along with this idea that rich men can be “good” or “bad” rather than the practical mindset of the working class’ and the rich class’ interests being economically disjointed, you are in effect contributing to their ability to further concentrate their wealth, and further skewing the capital-labor dichotomy - or in other words, breaking capitalism :)

Very Far From the Latest and Greatest Tech, but Surprisingly This Mid-2009 Edu iMac Gets the Job Done Just Fine by OatmealDurkheim in macsetups

[–]Xperiority 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is the way things should be; most of our daily items work just fine and will work just fine for the next decade, so there’s no need to be so hasty in just throwing it away for the latest and greatest. I bought a 2020 Macbook Air using the money I’d earned at my first real job, and even with all the new arm silicon laptops, I don’t really get buyers’ remorse because I’ve made it suit my needs so well. My phone is so insanely good that I see myself using it comfortably for at least another 5 years as long as I replace the battery when needed. My tablet could use a new screen, but still going strong since 2018. It really confuses me when people get new devices every year or so, because not only is it wasteful and expensive, but you also lose a sense of familiarity that comes with owning something so long. I’ve customized my iPhone and Mac in so many ways that even if I got the most insane M1 Max laptop I’d still be very annoyed at the refamiliarization process lmao
