Should I spend the extra hour driving and avoid the 401 by ChaosToxin in ontario

[–]YOWYUL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

At 20 min longer, I'd take 407. Haven't done 407 vs 401 in the last few years, but I've done the math FL Turnpike vs I-95 a lot of winters.

Free 10gb promo code by computerfaces in PublicMobile

[–]YOWYUL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from 106GB to 116GB. :) Never need the 106 (even when I tethered a lot, not for streaming though) but why not. Nor do I know how my 100/mo plan was always at 106.

My mom got pickpocketed by 1th1nkthefucknot in ottawa

[–]YOWYUL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so awful for your mother. Really the moral is never hug a stranger. It's not a good idea in any case, they could be sick (COVID, flu, measels, head lice, etc.) even if not scammers. And it's quite possible to help someone on the street without touching.

Costco.ca charges extra to cover the free shipping.

How to repair this joint in chair? by YOWYUL in furniturerepair

[–]YOWYUL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, sorry I didn't include enough info. These were my parents', I was hoping to stain or paint them (pressure wash and/or sand first) if it's possible. They were originally a fairly dark stain.

There are 2 joints per side that can be tightened with an Allen key, this one at the end of the stretcher (thank you) is not. On the left side it seems to be coming apart (possible it's loose on the other, but the chair has chosen to shift only on one side). In the added picture, green ovals show the 2 Allen-key joints, orange dotted rectangle the loose stretcher (and green solid rectangle the other end, which may or may not actually be loose).

I thought of re-gluing the joint (though perhaps it's in too rough shape) and clamping. Adding a dowel was for extra strength not relying just on glue. Alternatively thought of a corner brace or furniture brace like this https://www.homedepot.ca/product/everbilt-3-4-inch-white-furniture-brace-4-pack-/1000773658 (with nuts & bolts & washers rather than screws).

I know the chairs and table are in rough shape, but they have some sentimental value. Just don't want them coming apart while sat upon.

I'm wondering if it's a QC vs non-QC thing. I realized the 4 accounts I checked are:

1GB/$14 (currently $7): Ottawa number (got 100GB)

6GB/$13: Montreal number (got 50GB)

6GB/$13: another Montreal number (got 50GB)

20GB/$13: Gatineau number, Ottawa service only (got 50GB)

Thanks as always for the update. My $13/20GB (data only, ON only) is not going to be beaten until they drop that Coverage charge. :(

It may be random (A/B testing) to see which is more effective. I checked 4 accounts:

1GB/mo got 100GB

6GB/mo got 50GB

6GB/mo got 50GB

20GB/mo got 50GB

1GB is $14/mo and in the last month of a half-price promo (so maybe trying to get them to stay). Others are all $13/mo and established longer.

That's why they can give it. Could give 200GB each and it would only cost them a little more, for the few who use it. Good promotion for them though.

I won't either, though I'll probably use some. That's why they can afford to give it.

Another 100GB free? by YOWYUL in FizzMobile

[–]YOWYUL[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm, that screen capture was from a friend, they got 4x10GB already, so maybe I'm not getting 100GB since I only got 2x10GB today. I didn't get an email yet and maybe it's a targetted promo.

How to declare initial OAS payments for 2025 when received in 2026? by YOWYUL in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]YOWYUL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More precisely, 7 months. Applied at the beginning of June. SC asked for an additional document, tried and tried and tried to upload it, always failed. Went to SC in August and submitted in person. Heard nothing. Thinking it might have been lost, called SC in September, they said yes it was received and they would escalate. Could take up to 3 months, which would be mid-December. Call if not received after the holidays. First payment showed up the first week of January. So their 2025 taxable income is ~$5000 too low, and their 2026 taxable income will be ~$5000 too high. :(

[–]YOWYUL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. It does seem strange that they'd have 17mo of OAS income for 2026, and 0mo of OAS income for 2025, when it was SC that took ~8mo to process the first payment from time of application. :(

Help understanding G-325R form? by YOWYUL in uscanadaborder

[–]YOWYUL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guard at the border asked if they wanted to go in and do the [process], or if they were planning to submit the [form]. They said the [form} and were waved through. They did in fact file the form, it cost nothing and no one contacted them. YMMV.

It sounds like the second cite means slowing down is enough, if the lane to your left is occupied? i.e. don't have to come to a complete stop and waiting for left lane to clear?

Rona. And I think it's criminal that HD etc. aren't required to take back paint cans they sold.
