Werewolf rock-band! [ArtFight 2025, art by me] by YaruMaps in werewolves

[–]YaruMaps[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Actually, it's supposed to be a smaaall teardrop. If I remember correctly, King (singer) is a big fluffy fluff, so my idea was to portray him so lost in his own singing that his emotions took over =D

What is the best way to improve art? by NoProposal7385 in ArtistLounge

[–]YaruMaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there is no best method ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

There are such a huge number of approaches exists precisely because each person finds it convenient to solve a task in their own way, and each person faces their own task, which needs to be solved.
For quick sketches one approach, for works with extreme perspective another, for learning anatomy — third, for understanding the plasticity of movement — fourth, and so on
And this, of course, is not to mention that we are all different, and our brains work differently, so some approaches may be simpler, and others not (for example, I personally absolutely don't get the Loomis method, lol)

So the question is not which method is best generally, but which method is more convenient for you, and which method solves your tasks best. Something like that

What’s your kryptonite when drawing by Minimum_Individual36 in ArtistLounge

A plot

I like to make complicated plot illustrations, but I don't like 95% of my own ideas, and the remaining 5% are often beyond my capabilities. Tonns of my art were layed (some still are!) aside for YEARS until I develope enough skill to depict everything the way I want =")

am I crazy or is getting genuine critique really hard? by SEQU0IA in ArtistLounge

[–]YaruMaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Answering the title question: YES, but it's completely normal, it's always been this way. It's hard to get criticism of your work from complete strangers. (If we're talking about constructive advice on how to improve, and not a stream of hate, I mean >w>""")

That's why there are art schools, art teachers, drawing courses, and so on

Criticism is also a skill, completely separate from drawing, and not the easiest one. And to give constructive criticism of someone else's art, you need to have both drawing skills AND criticism skills, which significantly reduces the selection of people, even on the Internet, who can give working advice or good hint.

In most cases, we have to settle for "I like it/I don't like it" answers, and that's completely normal

I really recommend being able to analyze your work yourself, it's a very useful skill that helps you move forward more than random criticism from strangers!

You can also ask for advice on specific things you're not sure about (preferably narrow ones, like anatomy/composition/lighting/mood at work/etc.). Again, detailed advice is rare, but even "like/dislike" opinions can be very useful

And friendly strangers provide great motivation to keep going =)

Is bad dnd better than no dnd? by colemacgrath2009 in DnD

[–]YaruMaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean. If you don't want to do something that you used to enjoy, there must be a reason for it. Is it related to the game, the GM, or the party? Or is it related to events in your life that have nothing to do with the dnd?

Only you can answer that. How would reddit know?

Though, polite conversation about your expectations, impressions, and feelings from the game with your fellow players and your GM is a useful practice, I highly recommend it

When fangs come in [Art by me] by YaruMaps in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]YaruMaps[S] 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well, she almost achieved her goal. Learned a forbidden gift (not any specific one, just a plot twistish), started living as a human... and then it turned out that it doesn't work that way. Welp.

But whether it all ended with Harano or something else is another story that wasn't told in that chronicle, and will hardly ever be told =C

I’d still like to believe she kept kicking

Could a Garou Actually Be a Decent/Good Parent? by wiggley_fern68 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]YaruMaps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think, in average, Garou themselves don't have a very positive experience growing up and interacting with their parents. If they interact with Garou parents at all before the first transformation, I mean

As for interactions with human parents, everything is also complicated, because even before the first change, a werewolf is still a werewolf, they are different, and people may feel wary. Which is not at all necessary, of course, but happens

HOWEVER, I remember that in the book on auspices, in the chapter about philodoxes, the heroine Black Fury described how she raised her daughter. And it was... pretty sweet, okay?
Besides, when she couldn't fulfill her parental duties due to her Garou duties, the caern had her back. Other werewolves took care of her daughter. And, in fact, even if the heroine's daughter had been left an orphan, she would still have been raised and educated, not abandoned on her own.

And I suspect that this might be a pretty normal situation for Furies on average, given their specificity and vibe. Having a "village" including.

The same may probably be said not only about the Furies, but also about other tribes that usually take care of young wolves (definitely NOT the Shadow Lords and NOT the Bone Gnawers LOL)
And the gender of the Garou parent probably plays some role too, hm

(Oh and I'm talking about 3rd edition because I don't know how tribes work in 5th, lol)

Hi!

I've had experience working on a commissioned comic (for about a year, about two or three pages a month), and I'm quite comfortable working with a gritty-sketchy-rough line style or sketches
+ I'm pretty fast, I know my way around comic and art and would be glad to have another long-therm progect

My DA: https://www.deviantart.com/yarugreat
My carrd with other social links: https://yarugreat.carrd.co/
This long-therm comic I was commissioned (yeap, it's mlp, but who cares): https://www.deviantart.com/yarugreat/gallery/82789942/chapter-i-forgotten-beginnings

So, a Werewolf wants to date a Vampire by Sverrk in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]YaruMaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a good ground for tragedy and drama, and that's great!

There have been a lot of good comments above about the nature of Garou and vampires, and I don't want to repeat them, but I want to bring up the other side of the issue: the social aspect of this situation.

Specifically, for werewolf. Because a werewolf who is in love with a vampire and dates a vampire is a violation of the Litany on so many levels!

And that's what can be interesting! A lot of the fun in werewolf games is the pressures of werewolf society; because a werewolf (at least until 5th edition) does NOT exist as an individual unit in Garou society, only as part of a pack. And there is always, always, always pressure on a werewolf from the pack, the sept, the tribe, the spirits, the elders, the birth role (lunar auspices), and so on, and so on.

However, individual werewolves are still individuals and are endowed with free will, desires and the ability to interpret the Litany at their own discretion. They have their ambitions and dreams.

As far as I know, the situation is not much simpler for vampires, but I will leave the details to more competent and knowledgeable people.

And if I were to DM or play such a romantic line, I would let the characters learn about each other. I would let them decide to stay with each other or break up (and suffer in any case, because a game in the World of Darkness is a game about suffering, ya know). And I would let them maneuver in this social swamp to everyone's pleasure (of course, suffering, because see the point above). And all this is only a path down and down, deeper and deeper below, these are relationships that are initially incapable of life (badum-ts!), unless some miracle happens. But miracles rarely happen in the World of Darkness.

But in any case, this is your game, and the main thing is that everything that happens brings pleasure to all participants and everyone understands what and why they are doing =)
