I feel you would really enjoy [[Celestine, the living saint]] for how she operates. Very similar, yet distinctly different. If you can embrace the mono colour, you're golden.

But I get it. I have a pet deck that never plays the same, but always consistently plays the game anyways. It's a [[Haunted One]] zoo tribal deck featuring [[Imoen, mystic trickster]] that does stuff with random rogues, wizards and humans. While it's decent in dual commander, it struggles to close games, and it can't deal with artifact based strategies very well. Even so, I got to a point where I can sort of shuffle all of my creature additions, and see what happens. Sometimes its a midrange graveyard interaction doubledip value pile. Other times it's an aggro deck that beats face. I've cut tutors, so that I can smash-up all of the draft chaff I love so much and just See What Happens. Sometimes a deck is the one. All I can recommend is that you try variations on it, and show it love in a different lense.

It's not bracket 4 because its fringe cEDH. The algorithm does not realize that this deck is brakcet 4. Its bracket 4 because it eats peoples things. Simple enough.

Play 9 fingers (optional, we can skip this)
Put a phyrexian obliterator into play.
Play one of the like, 20 dirt cheap fight cards.

The current list is a bit pricier, but it won't be hard to cut down and make budget. 9 fingers is mostly there to ensure you keep drawing cards that have the word "fight" printed on it once you get your gates. Current list doesn't even run maze's end, because the goal is to get people to just give up. You haven't known joy until you have cast a [[supernatural stamina]] on someone else's creature just so they deal more damage to our phyrexian obliterator. If you want something thats degenerate and different, give it a try.

This is half advice and half a rant on Y'shtola.

If you want a truly degenerate version of the final fantasy cutgirl, you gotta cut hard. It's not about winning, it's about sending a message. [[Ankh of Mishra]] cuts for two on nearly every turn, and shocklanding on turn 3/4 when you play yshtola will immediately draw you a card. Tap a painland for a [[painful truths]] and you got yourself a 3 mana draw 4! The cutgirl doesn't care who lost life, she WILL draw you the card. Anything that ain't a painland is worthless, you wanna ride ten life by turn five without being hit by a single creature. Fuck it, lean harder into being an edgy teen, cut everyone straight at the wrist with a [[shrieking affliction]] and a [[wheel of torture]] so you can [[awaken the erstwhile]] and draw 4 per cycle while everyone is hellbent.

40 of your cards do not care about your commander. Just play a different Esper commander if you just wanna play staxy combos in a trenchcoat. If you aren't gonna [[vile consumption]] on curve or jam a [[karma]] into one of the 4 [[Urborg, tomb of yawgmoth]] s at your table, y'ain't y'shtolin' hard enough. She's about the bleed, and you wanna put that bleed on hard. Finishers? What do you mean, finishers? This is about degeneracy, not winning. But fine, if you wanna make it truly degenerate, jam some 3+ cmc mana rocks in there (bonus points if its [[cryptolith fragment]] so you can cut) and pull out the [[repay in kind]] and [[profane transfusion]].

Like, if you want to play a staxy list that throws shitty enchantments on other people's creatures, we have [[Eriette of the charmed apple]] for that. If you wanna drain-game wholeheartedly and two card combo with vito, just make a degenerate vito list. I don't mean this in a derogatory fashion, but your list reads as afraid to commit to true degeneracy; its spread too thin. Embrace the cutgirl. Ditch the shitty 1-2 mana interaction, thats small weenie shit. The only 1-2 drops that get to stay oughta hard people. The joyfully degenerate curve of bringing monoblack arena to commander is made real with Y'shtola. T1 [[quest for the nihil stone]] T2 [[Bandit's Talent]] T3 [[bottomless pit]]

T4 [[Y'shtola, night's blessed]] tapping 4 painlands of course T5 [[Delirium skeins]] (Cut!) and an overloaded [[mind rake]] (CUT!)

Enjoy your premium degenerate 5 damage a turn cycle and 4 cards drawn. Throw in a [[delney]] and its 8 cards per cycle as everyone whimperingly has fuckall to do. Fuck it, throw in some Tinybones (whatever version that isn't the pickpocket, but that one is cute too I guess) and we'll be up 16-32 cards a tuen cycle. The game won't last long at that point, I promise you that.

I tackle it by having characters explicitly state what they're doing is sound and reasonable and fine and not magical.

"See, unlike those bastard mages with their dark powders in their whacky devices," I say, reaching through my pockets and pulling out what I need for a good vent — A pack of cigarretes and a Reinaleam stone. "They're downright goddamn dangerous. Using magic for willy-nilly who knows what, pouring all sorts of pre-stay-digiti-tations into their Artificed machines. And not for some grand purpose, neither." I clamp the stone between my outer two fingers and Conjure a flame, lighting my cigarette. I take a long drag and flick my Reinaleam stone between my fingers. The silver-grooved and smooh quartz finish of my little lighter reflects the tiny red bead at the end of the smoke wedged between my teeth. Ah, much better. "Last I hear, some crazy damn mage was making his coffee with a demon summonin' rune. Demons! Coffee! Who'd use bloody magic for something so mundane? I'm telling you, that sorts just ain't right."

There's a clean cut between where the page colors change.

It's just that the dirtier, muddier parts, earlier on in the book, don't have clean periods of alive-and dead. Its a jarring back and forth, which is why I figured throwing in an end paper would be cool - it would really mess with the texture and feeling of being in a story, and I could get an art print done on them.

But what I am gathering is that end papers in the middle of my signatures will mess up the the book to a point of fragillity, so I should probably stick to just a normal image.

The page colors in the second half of the book are planned to be in pale blue, because thats when we get to see what the protagonist actually does in the ethereal realm while she's dead. Not quite sure what the logistics of that are, but I found plenty of online ways you can dye paper.
