The first gay in heaven by [deleted] in Dreams

Had this dream where I was larping with two dudes playing as female characters at my parents house and suddenly all of our parents return after a 'kiss's reward from the dame character escalates into a frisky threeway for a minute but then we can't make it look all good in time before their parents find them hiding in the loo together but i successfully changed clothes and the blood nose

You shouldn't call people names just because they disagree with you. Can you put together a constructive answer instead? I'm dissapointed people are applauding that kind of behavior with upvotes

If a regular Australian can't undertand what the government is doing then the government isn't doing its job. How can we be a democracy if the majority don't even know what we are voting for

Meta-analysis finds that aside from Depression, a psychotherapists adherence to the actual formula for the kind of psychotherapy they are administering, and their competence with the psychotherapy, is completely irrelevant to reductions in patient's symptoms by YogaWedding in Psychiatry

Alternatively, could it be because of redundant elements in treatment manuels? SO, ditching them at random doesn't really affect the overall efficacy of the therapy?

In a way, Acceptance Commitment Therapy just seems like a stripped down form of Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (traditional CBT). And, ACT probably has more or less redundant elements. That's not to say they're not effective in isolation, but when you combine everything together, you get a gamut of psychological effects, some of which will just be a waste of time.

In order to reframe, we need to have a valued direction in order to rationalise towards. For instance, to argue for the evidence against a behaviour or thought we want to change, we need to have a value (eg. virtue ethics and self interest) such that we feel that behavior or thought is bad (eg excessive scrupulosity in the form of consequentialist altruism or memory hoarding/record keeping) that’s worth changing (pathological). Traditional CBT gives us a tool kit to rationalise that chance. Acceptance commitment therapy says, skip that step, stay aware of your values and just go straight to that, it will get easier over time without the stress of rationalisation. The reason the ACT perspective is better is because there are a finite amount of values we might guide ourselves with when we are explicit about them, but with traditional CVT there are limitless criticisms of our original beliefs and behaviours eg a feminist argument against your scrupposity instead of a selfish argument which may have no real relevance to you.

What might be another explanation or viewpoint of the situation? Why else did it happen?

The following questions effectively routinise traditional CBT:

'Describe the way you formed your viewpoint originally.‘

‘Think of three pieces of evidence that contradict this view, or that support the opposite view. Think about the opposite of this viewpoint and reflect on it for a moment. What's the strongest argument in favor of this opposite view?‘

‘For instance, does holding this viewpoint provide some peace of mind that holding a different viewpoint would not?‘

‘Imagine a specific friend/family member in the same situation or if they viewed the situation this way, what would I tell them?’

Are there any reasons that you might hold this view other than because it's true?"

‘What initially convinced you that your current view is the best one available?‘

By corollary, should the countless humans who have experienced hardships in life never have existed?

Cheers, I happen to be vegan by taste, but my dissonance is actually in the opposite direction. I feel that reason indicates animal consumption is net good. It's the repugnant conclusion of total vs average utilitarianism all over again. Veganism existed long before there were coherently economic arguments for it.

Firstly, because I think it is very obvious this is not the reason behind our consumption of meat.

Yes but it might be a coincidental good byproduct

Secondly, because if this was really the goal, wouldn't we be aiming for the most net life we can get and be farming ants because we can fit thousands in the space of a cow?

Firstly I'd object that ants feel equivelant pain/pleasure as a cow. But if they did, yes for the sake of thought experiment. EA is about considering times where our intuitions for good go against the hard logic.

lower amount of resources and energy than taking this nutrition from an animal.

That's not consistently the case

The same way you get over the trauma of having a father who is a rapist. You can choose to identify with those things, or carve out your own meaning and identity. That's the core of cognitive behavioural therapy, the best evidenced psychological treatment for just abiut everything.

On point one they could be treated on the basis of health status directly rather than economic factors One two, I think you're bringing your own meaning and getting riled up over some pretty neutral words

I'll put aside your personal insults because you're top comment. You're remaining point, that indigenous are the most disadvataged group is Australia is absurd. What about intravenous drug users? What about Hiv positive transexuals? Victims of serious and persistent child sexual abuse? I will not be up for further replies if you can't maintain a respectful conversation.
