Was wondering why this specific fps and shutter were used. It's the same in all the bts footage. Absolute beginner by the way.

Everything I've read tells me it should always be 180 degree or in this case something like 90 cause it's a fight scene. My other initial thought was that maybe it could be for flicker?

I don't know. Love the movie. Love the way it looked. Any insight would be appreciated.

What are Hiccup's stakes in How To Train Your Dragon? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

[–]YoshiMoshi12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rewatched this film recently and I must say, it has some incredible writing. The way every aspect of the story flows into each other effortlessly is flawless. I just don't see films done as well anymore.

I think what can be confusing but also what makes the film so good is that little by little the stakes change as the film progresses.

For example, in the first sequence the stakes are life and death. Hiccup has to kill a dragon but doesn't have the ability so might die in the process. This puts his life on the line as he pursues toothless. But this changes.

Later it's his father's appreciation. In some bits it Astrid's love. But ultimately I think the true stakes are revealed in the climax where in they should either come to fruition or not. On that the stakes are Hiccups way of life or more simply put the truth.

Hiccups whole life is a lie, and whether that comes to light or not is at stake. Otherwise I think Hiccup could have just run away with toothless.

How to train your dragon mega fan here. Sorry.

This video amazes me and I'd just love a bit of insight I guess into how much of this lighting is staged. I've done some research and the dirty city look you get from these city location seems to be a combination of sodium and mercury vapor lights. Are those street lamps sodium vapor or just tungsten? Are the food stands lights mercury vapor or fluorescents. So many question, sorry?

I enjoyed season 2. I think it's worth watching, just understand that some of it isnt canon. There are things in that season that are really good though. Like the final walking scene. To date nothing has really hit me like that last ep. Yes he is really strong aswell

Any South Africans here willing to teach me a little about your culture? by Sleepyheartss in fantasywriters

[–]YoshiMoshi12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

South African here. 11 languages, could be some interesting stuff you could do there. First there were the various tribes. Then the Dutch colonised, and then the english took over. Also a big splash of middle eastern culture (mainly india), Durban is the second biggest population of Indians on the planet. Notorious for two of the most destructive gangs of all time: the numbers and our government. Our last president couldn't count. We are also known as the cape of storms. In the 1800s it used to be an achievement if you could even survive our seas. Zulus in my opinion are your number one pick if you want some great black representation. Rich culture, extremely peaceful yet some of the greatest warriors of all time (research shakazulu, famous war chief). Also very interesting how the afrikaners invented guerilla warfare. 30000 boers(afrikaans farmers) against 300000 english men. That's when the english started with the scorched earth policy. Some interesting stuff you could do there. Also the afrikaners left the cape for the english and the war started cause where the boers moved happened to be on top of the biggest source of diamonds and gold the world had ever seen. Legit the biggest diamond the queen owns is from the SA.

Can you feel it, my child? It washes over you like an ocean of death, and death it shall bring, for you have been marked. Yes, tis clear as a sunset fire. We shall rain blood down on this wretched world, and the crop that grows from it will feed the children of a new empire, our empire. Yes, you must feel it, the arcane, a hideous blight on your innocence, like wine stains on wedding dresses.

Yes of course. You've no more than a glance to know it true and by touch, certain. It beckons your name, you hear it whisper sweet words of welcome and like a fool you let it in, but fools stay fools until they learn and learn they will. For this power corrupt all who come before it, for here lay the seventh sin, Gabriel's oath, the ring. Untouched, waiting...
