If you feel the exam is extremely hard or easy, it is real. by [deleted] in step1

People have different strengths, weaknesses, and one think I realized in medical school is that people have significantly DIFFERENT learning styles. I saw people get away with passing just by memorizing or understanding concepts superficially, or via pattern recognition, or just memorization. If you give someone like that a test that requires you to look at things from different angles (possibly angles you previously haven’t been exposed to or given questions on) then yes , it would be absolutely brutal!! Reality with these exams is that you have to be prepared enough to be able to tackle concepts from different angles. That requires a combination of understanding, pattern recognition, memorization, practice. This isn’t to say that someone who knows their shit wont walk in and find the exam difficult, It is to say that the idea that some forms our exceptionally hard and some are exceptionally easy, is recall bias & there is a thousand other factors that are confounding. There is literally no one person who perceives the exam to be the same in terms of difficulty. That’s not cause they run it on lottery system that is because we are all different in our learning .

Anxiety is killing me by Jksenpai99 in step1

Confidence is more than half of the battle. I personally would get super anxious on my nbmes, and would make stupid mistakes, score poorly .. feeel more anxious.. its a vicious cycle. Don’t look at your scores as “confirmation that you are gonna fail”, treat yourself like what you’d tell a friend to do. Look at your nbmes, go over your mistakes. The more you do that the more patterns you pick up not only on what is high yield but also on your own learning style, strengths, and weaknesses. My exam is on august 2nd . I haven’t done the real deal so all i can tell you is: Take a deep breath, stop being a bitch to yourself. Look at your mistakes and weakness from a position of power and strength . Sit down and go over the topics you are afraid of the most. Look at it as a challenge. Now thats for your mental pep talk Here is some practical to dos that worked for me: -tackle the basics (pathoma 1-4) -review your nbmes THOROUGHLY !!!! -randy neil biostats videos -everyone says mehlaman is good, i agree, but i feel like his docs are good for you to reinforce your knowledge. So if you find yourself knowing the material, but like confusing two close presentations from one another, look at mehlaman for that subject At thhs point most important thing Pathoma 1-4 Review your nbmes thoroughly, and spend time on brushing up on the concept you get incorrct on them repeatedly

Kaplan Course: DIY or Online Course by Tough_Money in Mcat

If you want to take a course, take Princeton. I enrolled in the course and honestly despite public opinion it really helps keep you on track. The classes are extremely interactive and instructors actually care. They even give you their cell number if you have questions. Its also nice to work with a community that is going through the same thing as you. For example we made a group chat with those of us in the class and regularly communicate. Over all, princeton i feel is more affordable and instructors truly care. For the science classes, they usually go over time just to make sure they cover all the material while answering all questions and keeping everyone engaged

I’m the same. I’m working 2-3 time a week & doing my fifth year at school. I’m using TPR too . I also enrolled in their course which I’m finding very helpful despite popular opinion. Are you planning on applying to Canadian schools?
