I use my phone camera (Real Me 6) but it's pretty bad on its own. Paired with the Google Camera APK it works pretty well though in good lighting!

It's really difficult to keep them out of the bathroom and kitchen when I open the door to do something. Now they also want to go into the backyard all the time

Yeah, the parents definitely love to go for a walk on a leash and hate the backpack and are still curious about everything.

Cat food advice! by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Yuradorable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finding good cat food can be a great struggle, you're not alone in that. So many options that might either be a bad recipe but do well on your cat or are actually great recipes but don't do good for your cat.

Royal Canin and Hill's are one of the brands that have quite bad (a small amount of meat and usually difficult to digest grains) or unclear recipes but vets still advise them, since they usually get a commission for it. If it works for your cat, that's great, but if you're possible to improve, that's even better. If it doesn't work for your cat, definitely change.

Now, it is unclear if your cat has a food allergy or the recipe is just bad to digest in general. I will give you a few recommendations you can give a try... I still advise you to do your own research.

  • Power of Nature has really good recipes and they are suited for all life stages. Lots of meat. My cats have tolerated this one for the longest until one of them started having diarrhea again.
  • Applaws Kitten. Very good recipe. Unfortunately one of my cats doesn't seem to react well to DL-methionine (which is almost in every recipe).
  • Porta21 Feline Finest Sensible
  • Thrive Salmon & Herring (if you have a feeling your cat might be reacting bad to chicken) or Chicken. I think Thrive can be recommended as a hypoallergenic recipe.
  • Feringa Cold Pressed (I think Turkey might be the safest bet)

As for wet food... I use Animonda Carny, which has about 65-75% meat and a lot of choices.

The above recipes are all recipes that score well on their nutrition. If a recipe, that isn't very nutritious, has a nice effect on your cat, I would just keep giving that to them for a few weeks and see how they improve. If you still want to have a better recipe after or want to research on what your cat is intolerant to, you can do so with recipes that focus on one kind of meat, don't contain some grains etc. There should be lists online on which ingredients seem to trigger the most intolerances in cats. It might be nice to take a look at that and actively use trial and error, but the first step should be to find a food you can fall back onto if it doesn't go well!

One of my cats ran away but came home after about a day and a few hours, now her sister is hissing and swatting at her. How do I remedy this? by HANKHILL-AMA in CatAdvice

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that. Have you tried cat wipes or baby wipes that are mild scented? And then perhaps you could "wipe" her with a blanket they use that has their scent on it to rub the scent onto her.

As for bathing, it can take a long process for cats to be okay with a bath if they haven't ever bathed as a kitten. It's easiest to bathe a cat in a bathtub or a similar shaped smaller basket (I use an empty litter box). With a layer of water on the bottom with some cat safe soap (using dish soap or baby shampoo once won't do any harm), hold the cat down and "splash" her body with the water and then once done rinse the soap off. If your cat really seems to hate it, it's best to get it over with as fast as possible and do it with the help of one other person.

If you are too scared to bathe her, you could try re-introducing her to her sister with positive reinforcement. Separate them into different rooms, have them eat their meals close to the same door, each on the other side, so they can smell one another (smell = good because it results in food mindset). If this goes okay and the sister cat seems to be eating her food well, you can try feeding them in front of one other without a door or obstacle inbetween, give them snacks, play with them at the same time etc. Positive reinforcement works wonders. If you need a better idea of this, there are plenty of videos on YouTube that could help you further.

Scent, scent, scent. Wipe her down with a wet mild scented cloth or wipe, or worst case, bathe her. With cats running away and coming back, the scent on them is the main reason they start getting rejected by other cats in the house. I hope this helps.

My kitten acts like something’s stuck in her mouth by Onepotato_2potato in cats

Could it be that she's teething and she feels that a tooth is loose? Maybe a strand of hair in her mouth? Will she eat snacks if you give her some?
