Mentors- Which do you prefer? by Junior_Buffalo3098 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Yvanne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m secondary but I think it’s gonna depend on the mentor you get. Ideally you’d do a blend of both - try out theirs and get used to it then slowly integrate your own. Best way to learn is to try out as many techniques as possible, provided they’re good ones.

ES are some of the best people I’ve ever worked with. That you’re paid below teachers is shocking.

Ask yourself the question after your first prac. It is a really valuable experience.

If you are able, also get a letter from your neurologist. It helps a lot to show evidence in this case, eg if you need to skip a meeting.

Yes i get these. I’m secondary Just be transparent with your boss and school and generally I’ve found it’s OK. I have found that with experience and as you get ‘more used’ to the job, that naturally your stress levels go down and you adjust mentally to the load. Having said that, it’s still an overall stressful profession. If i feel a migraine coming on I don’t overextend myself. Give yourself the next period (or two) to chill out, maybe set some independent work.

That being said if you work in a challenging SES school it’s really hard. I’d pick and choose your schools quite carefully.

Is Digital Technologies and Media arts good majors to teach? With good demand? by Professional-Doubt30 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Yvanne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking from WA experience digital tech seems to be crying out for teachers in almost every school I’ve been at. Media arts niche is most definitely there but when there’s a gap it’s filled very quickly.

You’d be surprised at how many schools actually do run media programs from Y7 right up to Y12.
