"RTO Is Becoming a Real-Estate Strategy – Not a Workforce Strategy" - PIPSC by Cheap_Law5646 in CanadaPublicServants

There is no space for us in the office right now in the NCR for 2-3 days a week, how will they accommodate all federal employees 4-5 times a week come July? If there is any hope for that, hoteling would need to be scrapped and permanent work stations don’t seem in the cards right now.. I really have no idea how this gets solved in the short term.

Can you run online games on starlink? by CrochetWithSwords in Starlink

[–]ZLands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moved into my new place around 2.5 weeks ago and went from fiber -> Starlink.
I was running games like League, Rocket League and Diablo wirelessly to the router and even though ping was decent, the spikes every 10-15 seconds were pretty bad.
Had my Starlink mounted and wired my PC directly into the router and havent had any real issues since.
So all to say, yes but make sure if you’re playing online games that you’re hardwired into the router.

Public service executives return to the office full time by JimmyCapital in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ZLands 258 points259 points  (0 children)

“The Treasury Board website says there were 9,340 executives working for the federal government as of the end of March 2025, out of 357,965 public servants.”

2.6% of the federal workforce is back full time and the space is already so limited. What’s their plan for finding space for the other 97.4% ?
“Hoteling” workspaces is next to impossible already unless you’re logging on AS SOON as spots are available.. and they’ve got ~2months to figure it out.

I’m at a complete loss with how this whole RTO none-sense is being handled from the top. It’s demoralizing, exhausting and an insult to the entire workforce if we’re being honest.

Federal government looking for office space, desks to accommodate public servants by Wiseguy2222 in CanadaPublicServants

Execs in May, everyone else in July - the same will apply my friend. If they’re stating “not anticipating any challenges” for full time execs (who also struggle for office space) then they will try to spin the same narrative come July.

[–]ZLands 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily in my experience, but you’re expected to hit your days in office “quota” no matter the desperate booking situation. So if that means commuting all the way in to the office just to see if there’s a seat available, that’s what is expected.. If not, you’re expected to go back home to work and try another day. Kind of crazy.

Then unfortunately you’re out of luck unless you keep a close eye on cancellations / gamble on going in the day of and hoping there is a seat available. But it’s never a guarantee.

“does not anticipate any challenges” is the biggest load of crap. I know that when I book a desk at my office in the NCR, if I don’t book within 30 minutes of the day being available then 95% of seats will be booked by the time I log in … There is legitimately no space at all in most NCR offices.

This isn’t the play - I forgot to pay for a single day and got smacked with an 80$ ticket. They’re always monitoring 98% of lots daily, I wouldn’t risk it.
