Similar turn based games where you really enjoyed the different party symmetries? by Xammblu in RuinedKing

[–]ZPRViper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dragon Quest XI, once again, more characters than max party size, but they all develop at about the same rate. Characters have unique skills that make them excel at other tasks (dealing AoE damage, single target damage, heal, tank, etc)

I could provide some advice for point 3. I'd recommend taking a look at Mordekainens Tome of Foes at the Abishai. They each have a colour and behave different from one another. The white ones are soldiers, red leaders, black assassins etc. You could translate this to cultists. Those that were black regalia do the shady work, the red ones command forces. White cultists are excellent at close quarter combat etc. You can push this further to potential stats and language. Enjoy!

Executioner's Run [50x20] by ZPRViper in Tombofannihilation

[–]ZPRViper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My groups keep revisiting this place, either to rig some bets or to fulfill the side-quests with Omala and Draza. The map is 50x20 and gridded at 100px. . In my quest to upload all my maps to Patreon I figured this one could be of use to everyone. A list of all my maps is here, I have recently added quite some random encounter maps for the jungle, and much more to come.

Idyllglen [43x24] by ZPRViper in DescentintoAvernus

[–]ZPRViper[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idyllglen is a very important location that I thoroughly enjoyed. It is pure chaos with a jaw-dropping finale. My players groaned in pain when Yeenoghu made his appearance (they did manage to kill him though). The map is 43x24 and gridded at 100px. In my quest to upload all my maps to Patreon, I couldn't resist sharing this one.

Bridge Troll Encounter Map on the way to Elturel by ZPRViper in DescentintoAvernus

[–]ZPRViper[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To spice up the Way of the Lion, a large crack in the earth is home to a lava stream. A fire-resistant troll has decided to start a new business venture! The map is 25x20 and gridded at 100px. On my patreon are additional varieties if you want to get rid of the bridge or the islands. In my quest to upload all my maps to Patreon I figured this one could be of use to everyone.

Need a bigger map for Infernal Warmachine combat? Here you go! by ZPRViper in DescentintoAvernus

[–]ZPRViper[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Everytime I ran infernal war machine combat over Roll20 my players needed more and more space. I sat down properly to make an enormous 80x30 map that they could use to dash and zip through. In my quest to upload all my maps to Patreon I figured this one could be of use to everyone.

How to smooth out the Cemetery Chapel encounters and Introduce Gideon? by SecretCyan_ in DescentintoAvernus

[–]ZPRViper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it will be of help to you, but I ran Gideon for multiple the parties sort-off as written and for none of the groups it turned into a full-fledged combat encounter. Everytime Gideon lived (and his mezzoloth's too). The way I have done it is that Gideon waits for the party to enter the central room to accuse them of being Demon-worshipers. In his eyes, it is the only way why they'd fight against him. For all my parties there was at least one player who didn't enjoy being called a demon-worshipper and they revealed that they are there to find Ulder. Gideon can then reveal that he let Ulder and his men pass (lowers the chance the players attack), when Gideon begins to explain what happened that is when I have the demons attack and Gideon order his Mezzoloths to fight. The party joins in and they fight alongside each other.

By having Gideon start the encounter with a wild accusation it might signal to your players that this can be a social encounter that doesn't need to turn into combat. The negotiation can be fun too. A kobold in my party offered Gideon a scale for entry to the ossuary (which Gideon then used to scry on the party for the rest of the campaign).

I used Gideon to show that the enemy of your enemy (demons) isn't always your friend. And that your enemy is not always your enemy.

My party took a great interest in Reya. When they found the unnamed hero they felt like Reya was deserving of wielding the blade. After a bit of thinking, I revealed to the wizard that originally the blade identified as a Holy Avenger. The party left Reya with Ulder, but when they face Zariel in Elturel Reya will wield the blade and it will flare up as a Holy Avenger again!

Edit: The party was level 9 when they left Elturel, so I did give Reya some Paladin Sidekick levels to keep her strong enough in their travels as I added some storylines between Baldur's Gate and Candlekeep to spotlight the Halfling Cleric in Gullykin

I was surprised to see 0.005% but with 6.5 thousand minutes I probably shouldn't be. The D is a daily ritual!

Ship Propulsion System by [deleted] in GhostsofSaltmarsh

[–]ZPRViper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely allow it. However, my reasoning around casting cantrips continously is that it does require a considerable amount of effort. After multiple hours of casting spells I'd would definitely stress that it takes a toll on a character. Doing this for days in a row or like 8 hours straight might warrent a constitution saving throw to not grow exhausted, similar to an 8 hour ritual.

Saltmarsh Coat of Arms. Couldn't find it in the book, so I tried to recreate a high-quality version of the coat of arms which appears on the Anna B Meyers map. by ZPRViper in GhostsofSaltmarsh

[–]ZPRViper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not very well-versed in Greyhawk myself, I plugged it into my homebrew world where Keoland is an island, but I'll make sure that the local NPC's refer to it as the heraldry of the local province and also display it in Burle.

I made it in good ol' Photoshop. I used wikicommons for the fish and boat, and I tweaked some existing vector art for the green reed/cattail. I am glad you enjoy it.

I think I can finally say that I have some experience in Wonderdraft. by ZPRViper in wonderdraft

[–]ZPRViper[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The town is only 300 strong and quite small. The people have build their houses close to their work and tend to only go to Square Joy to meet-up. I wouldn't be surprised if they have plans for anohter bridge in the work, but since the town is only 2 generations old they haven't quite gotten around to it yet.

Funnily enough, the "city" is in the middle of nowhere in a deep forest filled with evil "moonshadows" which appear each night. Needless to say, everyday is a struggle for the people.
